Minge Face !! It's the Baseball Playoffs !! SC6 Picks the AL .....

Hey, I Didn't Know Mario Was a Lefty.........

Well, today was the last day of Baseball Season, although it looks like the Padres and Rockies will be playing Game #163 tomorrow. It's great that we had all these division races up to the last day of the season. Since the National League is a bit of a mess still, I'll leave them until tomorrow. We've got the Red Sox vs. The Angels, and the Yankees vs. Indians.......

Red Sox vs. Angels.

So are they California Angels, Anaheim Angels, Los Angeles Angels or the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim? I dunno... It won't matter much. The Halos have decent starting pitching, good hitting, but the Red Sox are pretty tough - this coming from a life-long Yankee fan. F*** you too.... Beckett, Schilling, Matsuzaka, etc have the Sox with the best pitching they've ever had. They might go all the way... Red Sox 3-1.

Yankees vs. Indians.

Yes, the Yanks have been on a tear since well all thought they were done - myself included. But, I have a worry - pitching, pitching ,pitching!! Wang is solid, But Petitte has been hittable, Clemens has not looked good, Mussina's been injured, and the rest are kids. I'm worried. CC Sabathia is a stud, and in a short series he'll take two, and Cleveland will move on. I hope I'm wrong. Indians 3-2.

.

Was Today's Weather Beautiful Or What ??!!!!

Thank God - Fall is finally here!! No more 107 degrees for a week straight. I hate the Summer here, and I swear that I'd still have my job if it wasn't so hot for so long - but I digress. That is in the past, and I'm more of a future tense kinda guy.

Not too hot, not cold, no humidity - perfect all weekend. I had to get out of the house, even if it was to cut grass and pressure wash the gunk off of the house. I'm sure Hiro will appreciate having the mold off... Hope you got out too.

No More Toetapping in the John... Sen. Craig's Bathroom Stall Gets a Makeover.

Just when you thought the Sen. Larry Craig debacle was over.... Now the crapper is a celebrity! Yep, it appears that the toilet that Sen. Craig was busted in for playing footsie with a cop is a regular tourist site at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.

Visitors are regularly stopping by and asking where the infamous toilet is, taking pictures, and having fake toe tapping sessions there. Personally, I never heard of the toetap, but I'm out of the loop on a lot of things - I was late on the rainbow thing back in the 90's too.

Bad news if you are interested on getting to tour it soon.... The airport has decided enough is enough, and they are planning to change the stalls so they go all the way to the floor, making the toetap impossible. Perhaps the new way to ask would be to just sing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'...Moye, have you been there yet? I know you were just there - on business, of course!

.

Go Greek This Weekend !!

Still looking for something to do? How about coming to Florence for the 28th Annual Greek Festival. It will be all weekend at the Greek Orthodox Church on S. Cashua Dr. It goes til 900PM tonight, and should be all afternoon Sunday.

There are rides, dancers, music and did I mention - GREEK FOOD !! They have everything - Baklava, Spanakopita, Mousaka, Gyros..... Mmmmmm, yummy! All that, and all the Gioldasis', Karetes', Kampeziones' and Kremydas' you can shake a stick at! See ya there.

I Almost Got a DWI Tonight.

I got pretty lucky tonight. I went to Slammers with Ben to see Ambedexrus - they were okay tonight. The drummer was a bit off tonight. At the show, I found out that our old drummer was in another band , and they were playing at the Sports Bar, behind the Trophy Club. So I decided to check them out real quick before going home.
Sometimes the best made plans don't go quite like we want them to, because I apparently was doing 55MPH in a 40 zone, and I was pulled in the parking lot of the bar. I couldn't find my registration (not good), and the Sheriffs Office called in the Highway Partol for a field sobriety test. Follow the pen, read the alphabet, then the heel-to-toe walk while counting out. I was honest with the guy, and I wasn't drunk, so naturally I passed.
Actually, I was very lucky, because I didn't even get a ticket - just a warning. The most embarassing part was being stopped at The Trophy Club by 4 cops with their lights blazing, because I am not allowed there for the time being, as per a promise I made. But everything worked out OK. So, I would like to thank the florence County Sheriff's Dept. and the SC Highway Patrol for doing their jobs, for being considerate, and for not arresting me!

Go Tigers, Go Cocks! It's Time for My Picks for Saturday's Games...

Man, Those Red Sox Fans Get Angry Early, Don't They??
I know, I know... We're talking football, but I was too lazy to download any photos, so this was the closest. On to football.
This weekend's games are not the most exciting matchups - Clemson vs. Ga. Tech and Miss. State at Carolina. Doesn't exactly get the blood pumping , does it? Which is the perfect reason they both could fall this weekend. Not that they will, but it wouldn't surprise me if either one did.
Miss. State vs. South Carolina.
Sly and The Family Croom seem to be putting a team together here. They're 3-1 with a conference win. Kinda reminds you when USC would start off with a winning record - then they'd get crushed by the conference teams. USC has a new QB (Smelley?), and Coach Spurrier is not happy with the practices this week. The Gamecocks will be ready, but not at their best - on O or D. Just can't see Miss. State at 4-1. USC 20-14.
Clemson vs. Ga. Tech.
The Tigers always seem to have problems with the Yellow Jackets, and they're in Atlanta. That and seeing Tech go 0-3 in the conference isn't a common occurance - but it happens. The weather will be good, Clemson has better speed and they're on a roll. Tech doesn't have the offense to keep up. Keep the Tigers on the undefeated board - for now.. Clemson 38-17.
I got both of them right last week, hopefully I'll be right again. Have a great weekend !!
.

What I'll Be Doing Tonight....And You Should Too !!

Want to do something different tonight?? Go see a live rock band. Remember them? Dressed all in black, sweating your ass off, drinking in a bar that could double for a bomb shelter. Music so damn loud, your eyes ring for hours? Yeah, I miss it too...

But I'll be out at Slammers on East Palmetto St in Florence tonight, watching Ambidexrus - a band I played in before I started Mike Reino - Political Kamikaze. It goes from 11-2 , so be there . It's $5 at the door, and all the beer you can drink for free - NOT !!

.

Rule of Thumb - If You Don't Know, Just Say 'I Don't Know'.....

Does This Look Like a Romney or Giuliani Sign to You?? It Does to Katon Dawson..........
Sometimes I don't know what our leaders think. Reading an article in The State, I had to wonder aloud what Katon Dawson thinks when he opens his mouth. Someone is planting signs around Columbia like the one above, and others had the SCGOP's phone number on them. Naturally, the State will call them to find out if they know about them.
Of course, SCGOP has nothing to do with it - that is not their style. It should have ended there, but they asked if they had an idea who planted them? Now, the correct answer is :
A: I don't know.
B: The SC Democrats.
C: Osama bin Laden
D: Mitt Romney or Giuliani's people.
If you answered A, you might be more qualified to be the State Party Chair, because Katon (which rhymes with the leader of the Netherworld) said D. Oops!
Now maybe The State asked if it were them specifically, and Dawson just didn't reiterate enough that he doesn't know anything about it. But, I'm not too sure about that, because the State seemed to think that it's an attack against Lindsey Graham, not John McCain - a much more plausible thought than Romney or Giuliani.
Lindsey has taken a lot of flack in SC for his stance on Immigration, but most of the people criticizing him are faceless at this point, so it's pretty likely a gutless idea like this came from one of those people - but I don't know. Like I said, I don't know.........
That's exactly what Katon should have said. Instead, he attacked two REPUBLICAN campaigns in his own state - not bright. While it's true he got the GOP out of a financial hole, most of his other decisions made leave me shaking my head. Saying something this dumb - offending 35-40% of all Republicans - when you're up for re-election next year, re-affirms that Katon Dawson has his own agenda within the SCGOP agenda. That is a dangerous mix that , in time, will lead to SCGOP's ruin.
.

The House Screws Up a Vote..... And WE Have to Pay to Find Out Why???

Get ready to say "WTF?"......... Congress had a vote last month that got all messed up, and it looks like we'll be paying for it in the end. The vote was about putting provisions in an amendment to a recent Agriculture bill to limit illegal immigrants. It was a close vote, where the Republicans thought they had won 215-213. Then the fun started.....

Somewhere along the line during the roll call, one of the votes was put as a 'Nay', instead of a 'Yea', so the vote came up as a tie 214-214. In this case, a tie vote is like in baseball - the tie goes to the majority party. The speaker at the vote saw the C-Span vote, and called the tie and ended voting. All of this is legal. If all this Roberts Rules of Order are a bit confusing, I recommend watching "I'm Just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rocks. Naturally, Republicans screamed Bloody Murder, and then more fun started.

Needing to know exactly how this screwup occurred (fine), the Rules Committee had a hearing into the matter. They called in the Clerk of the House, who basically said an error had taken place. Sounds fine - we messed up, the vote was wrong. I forgot - this is Washington DC , we need to build that molehill into a Mountain. Even though they know what happened, Congress wants to have one of those wonderful "Independent Investigative Committees" look into it further - at an estimated cost of over $1 Million. Beautiful!! Bunch of Idiots....

Ladies and Gentlemen of DC, stop wasting our money on Steroids in Pro Baseball, Retired NFL Players injuries, and other Independent Committees...... Just do what we pay you to do, which is nothing, I guess.

Clyburn Gets $80M For Water Projects - Sort Of. Here's How to Use It.

I saw the Press Release about the $80 Million going coming to South Carolina for various water projects. A closer look shows that not all of it is for the 6th District. It's a common trick Congress does , especially when major cities ar gerrymandered.

Of that $80M, $20 Million of it goes toward Charleston. Of that amount $4M is for City of Chucktown sewer projects, so that may used in the 6th District, but it could be 1st District as well. Another $16M goes towards repairs on the Ashley River, of which not a foot of is in the 6th District. Don't be suprised to see Henry Brown take credit for the same project, which he should. It's kinda like saying that your next door neighbor hit the lottery, but you want some of it too.

The other $60M is going towards the Lake Marion Regional Water Authority Project. I guess this means the guys at the Army Corps of Engineers can get back to work now - unless they use all the money again. A bigger question is how they plan to build the project. The authority wants to build a big circle, like a big bypass loop. I'm not a big fan of that project...

As we all know, a bypass is not the most efficient type of road - just drive an extra 25 miles to avoid the traffic. Well, we're not talking about traffic, we're talking about the movement of water. This loop would go over 30 miles outside of the lake, so my guess is that there's gonna be a lot of waste. The project is already estimated at over $150 Million, so one would think that keeping the budget down would be a premium. I forgot, we're talking politicians here.

The most economical way is to go straight down I-95 from Clarendon County to Walterboro, then to fork off to the major areas needed from there. Up 521 to Sumter and Manning, and 301 towards Orangeburg would be logical. If there's money left over, then go from there. However, 200 miles of sewer and water because a few small communities don't have water that tastes like Evian is wasteful. Besides, Evian tastes like fartwater!

Still Not Sure Who to Vote For? Take this Quiz....

OK, we've given you tons of different ways to pick who to vote for President - Astrology, Chinese Astrology, even based on Issues sometimes. Well, here is another way. A TV station in Minnesota has an eleven question quiz based on various Issues. All you do is answer the questions Agree/Disagree, then you weight them based on importance. Then, VOILA! You get a score for almost all the candidates running. Here is the address:
The weighting will make a big difference, but it is pretty accurate. I agreed with Rudy Giuliani on the most topics of any candidate, but the weighting gave a 2 pt. edge to Duncan Hunter. I can hear Joshua Gross calling me to switch already - sorry Josh!
So many people ask me about who they should vote for - and I'm going to tell you to vote for Rudy - DUH! If you still aren't sure, my advice is to peruse all this imperical data that I've provided for you, use it - then vote for Rudy. ;)

"So, What's Your Major?"... The Ten Worst Pickup Lines.

Name this Guy from 'The Simpsons' for the Grand Prize....
MSN put out a list of their Ten Worst pickup lines - luckily, I never used any of them. Then again, I don't think I ever had a pickup line. I stood against the wall like Poindexter (another Old School Rap reference there). Here you are, and feel free to add any favorites in the comments....
“What’s your sign?”
“Pardon me, I seem to have lost my phone number, can I borrow yours?”
“You must be a broom because you’re sweeping me off my feet.”
“Do you have a license? Because you’re driving me crazy.”
“I gotta thirst and baby, you look like my Gatorade.”
“Are you lost? Because heaven’s a long way from here.”
“Are you religious? Because you’re the answer to all my prayers.”
“Can I take your picture? I want Santa to know exactly what I want for Christmas.”
“Do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by again?”
“Well, here I am. What are your other two wishes?”
Here's a couple other bad ones I've heard or used:
"Your Mother is a thief.... She stole the stars and put them in your eyes."
"If it were up to me, U and I would be right next to each other in the alphabet."
"How the hell to you walk in those shoes?" Wait, that was just something stupid I said on a date once.

I Almost Missed the Interview, But SIMT Looks Pretty Awesome....

It's Just the Architect's Drawing, But Trust Me - It Looks Just Like That.

I damned near missed my radio interview today... It was supposed to be at the opening of the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing Technology, or SIMT, at Florence-Darlington Tech this morning. I get to SIMT, and no one knows anything about WJMX-AM being there today, so I see the security guard, and he said it was cancelled. Those security guys knows everything.....So at 745, off i run to the BTC Building.

TJ didn't have my number, so he wasn't able to call, but we got a solid 5 minutes of quality political discussion in. So much so that I'll be back on Friday, and I might be contributing regularly to the show - if my agent and them can wheel and deal some A-Rod sized contract out... Speaking of which, TJ felt bad for the inconvenience, so I got a $25 gift card to Indigo Joe's in Florence - anyone want to go out for lunch soon? My treat. ;)

I'll be discussing one of of my recent blog posts on air - you might guess who it's about - but I'll leave it at that until Friday at 800AM. If you're in the area , listen in on 970 AM, or online at www.newstalk970online.com for a live feed. I'd chat some more, but I have a bunch of chicken fingers to make for the House Party tonight...

Is Newt Running for President NOW?? It Sounds Like It..

Newt to Neil Cavuto: 'If I Raise $30M by Sunday, I'm In.'

Yep. That's what he said, which basically is opposite of my post just a couple days ago. So, either I'm stupid, or Newt might be making a mistake, or he's very shrewd. Or all of the above.

I was almost stunned watching 'Cavuto on Business' today. Gingrich addressed the question pretty directly. He said his focus was solely on American Solutions: Winning the Future's Workshops this week, but if he is able to raise $30 Million this week, he will run for President. Wow!

Honestly, the first thing that came to my mind was back in the 80's, when Oral Roberts asked his TV audience to send him $6M by Sunday, or as he put it, "God would call him". Guess the extra $24M is adjusted for inflation......

I have a bunch of questions, but I'm sure Newt's got answers. How do you raise $30 Million in a week? Is his organization for the Presidency set up? Who is left to set up the campaign on the local level? Could someone please drop out before we add more guys? I need a friggin' scorecard to keep up with them all, and I'm a pretty active participant in the process. How many more Conservative White Guys do we need?

I'm not a big fan of this decision, if that's what it is, or if the whole American Solutions campaign is just a big ruse to running for President. I thought about going to the workshop Saturday, but if it's going to be like a Timeshare Sales Attack - where you get a free 3 day/ 2 night vacation, but you have to tolerate the sales guy hammering you for 2 hours - I'll pass. Running in 2012 would put him in a much better position, but sometimes these guys just can't avoid the allure of running.

Maybe I'm wrong - or maybe Newt's cash won't come through. We'll see.

Do I Vote for a Monkey or a Dog? More Odd Ways to Pick Your Presidential Candidate... The Chinese Zodiac.

SC6 Investigation Reveals Most Politicians are Pigs !!

OK, you can fit all that I know about Chinese Astrology in a thimble, but that doesn't stop me sometimes. I actually started this post before I even researched it, so we'll learn as we go along.

They have 12 symbols, like standard Zodiac, but instead of your sign being the month of your birth, it goes by the year of your birth - therefore, Year of the Monkey, Dog, Rabbit, etc. The one thing I learned was that they have a couple consistencies. Four years difference between people is a good match, and six is very bad. I was reading the placemat at a restaurant once that had this, and all I remember seeing was my ex's say "Beware the Monkey". Damn, that placemat was pretty smart!

You can add the 12 years to the difference, and maybe it makes a bit of sense. Fred Thompson's wife is 28 years his junior - 12x2 + 4 = 28. Maybe they are made for each other. As for me, if there were someone 23 years old around, that might be a good match as well. Not trying to justify anything - I'm just saying. ;)

Here we are - the Chinese Zodiac, and Your Politicians...

Year of the Dragon (1940, 52, 64, 76, 88)
People born in the Year of the Dragon are healthy, energetic, excitable, short-tempered, and stubborn. They are also honest, sensitive, brave, and they inspire confidence and trust. Dragon people are the most eccentric of any in the eastern zodiac. They neither borrow money nor make flowery speeches, but they tend to be soft-hearted which sometimes gives others an advantage over them. They are compatible with Rats, Snakes, Monkeys, and Roosters.
Jim Clyburn.

Year of the Snake (1941, 53, 65, 77, 89)
People born in the Year of the Snake are deep. They say little and possess great wisdom. They never have to worry about money; they are financially fortunate. Snake people are often quite vain, selfish, and a bit stingy. Yet they have tremendous sympathy for others and try to help those less fortunate. Snake people tend to overdo, since they have doubts about other people's judgment and prefer to rely on themselves. They are determined in whatever they do and hate to fail. Although calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. Snake people are usually good-looking and sometimes have marital problems because they are fickle. They are most compatible with the Ox and Rooster.
John Edwards.

Year of the Horse(1942, 54, 66,78)
People born in the Year of the Horse are popular. They are cheerful, skillful with money, and perceptive, although they sometimes talk too much. The are wise, talented, good with their hands, and sometimes have a weakness for members of the opposite sex. They are impatient and hot-blooded about everything except their daily work. They like entertainment and large crowds. They are very independent and rarely listen to advice. They are most compatible with Tigers, Dogs, and Sheep.
Fred Thompson, John Spratt.

Year of the Ram (1943, 55, 67, 79)
People born in the Year of Ram are elegant and highly accomplished in the arts. They seem to be, at first glance, better off than those born in the zodiac's other years. But ram year people are often shy, pessimistic, and puzzled about life. They are usually deeply religious, yet timid by nature. Sometimes clumsy in speech, they are always passionate about what they do and what they believe in. Ram people never have to worry about having the best in life for their abilities make money for them, and they are able to enjoy the creature comforts that they like. Ram people are wise, gentle, and compassionate. They are compatible with Rabbits, Pigs, and Horses.
Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee.

Year of the Monkey (1944, 56, 68, 80)
People born in the Year of the Monkey are the erratic geniuses of the cycle. Clever, skillful, and flexible, they are remarkably inventive and original and can solve the most difficult problems with ease. There are few fields in which Monkey people wouldn't be successful but they have a disconcerting habit of being too agreeable. They want to do things now, and if they cannot get started immediately, they become discouraged and sometimes leave their projects. Although good at making decisions, they tend to look down on others. Having common sense, Monkey people have a deep desire for knowledge and have excellent memories. Monkey people are strong willed but their anger cools quickly. They are most compatible with the Dragon and Rat.
Rudy Giuliani, Mike Reino.

Year of the Rooster(1945, 57, 69, 81)
People born in the Year of the Rooster are deep thinkers, capable, and talented. They like to be busy and are devoted beyond their capabilities and are deeply disappointed if they fail. People born in the Rooster Year are often a bit eccentric, and often have rather difficult relationship with others. They always think they are right and usually are! They frequently are loners and though they give the outward impression of being adventurous, they are timid. Rooster people¡¦s emotions like their fortunes, swing very high to very low. They can be selfish and too outspoken, but are always interesting and can be extremely brave. They are most compatible with Ox, Snake, and Dragon.
Andre Bauer.

Year of the Dog (1946, 58, 70, 82)
People born in the Year of the Dog possess the best traits of human nature. They have a deep sense of loyalty, are honest, and inspire other people¡¦s confidence because they know how to keep secrets. But Dog People are somewhat selfish, terribly stubborn, and eccentric. They care little for wealth, yet somehow always seem to have money. They can be cold emotionally and sometimes distant at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their sharp tongues. Dog people make good leaders. They are compatible with those born in the Years of the Horse, Tiger, and Rabbit.
None. That should tell you something.

Year of the Pig (1935, 47, 59, 71, 83)
People born in the Year of the Pig are chivalrous and gallant. Whatever they do, they do with all their strength. For Boar Year people, there is no left or right and there is no retreat. They have tremendous fortitude and great honesty. They don't make many friends but they make them for life, and anyone having a Boar Year friend is fortunate for they are extremely loyal. They don't talk much but have a great thirst for knowledge. They study a great deal and are generally well informed. Boar people are quick tempered, yet they hate arguments and quarreling. They are kind to their loved ones. No matter how bad problems seem to be, Boar people try to work them out, honestly if sometimes impulsively. They are most compatible with Rabbits and Sheep. Henry Brown, Joe Wilson, Bob Inglis, Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, Bill Richardson. Holy Smokes!!

Year of the Rat (1948, 60, 72, 84)

People born in the Year of the Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They work hard to achieve their goals, acquire possessions, and are likely to be perfectionists. They are basically thrifty with money. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. They are most compatible with people born in the years of the Dragon, Monkey, and Ox.

Mark Sanford, John McCain.

Year of the Ox (1949, 61, 73, 85)

People born in the Year of the Ox are patient, speak little, and inspire confidence in others. They tend, however, to be eccentric, and bigoted, and they anger easily. They have fierce tempers and although they speak little, when they do they are quite eloquent. Ox people are mentally and physically alert. Generally easy-going, they can be remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed. They are most compatible with Snake, Rooster, and Rat people.

Gresham Barrett, Barack Obama.

Year of the Tiger (1950, 62, 74, 86)

Tiger people are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful. Tigers are most compatible with Horses, Dragons, and Dogs .

None.

Year of the Rabbit (1951, 63, 75, 87)

People born in the Year of the Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. Rabbit people are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. Rabbit people seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. They are most compatible with those born in the years of the Sheep, Pig, and Dog.

Jim DeMint.

There you are. While it's not exactly scientific, once again it shows why I support Rudy and Mark Sanford. Meanwhile , Andre Bauer is a Rooster (he did go to USC), and almost every politician is a Pig! Where do I get this stuff?? I have a lot of extra time this week..

Whatever Happened to Tabitha Soren?? SC6 Finds Out...

I was trolling through MSN today, and I saw an article about MTV and their political reporting, and I suddenly wondered - whatever happened to MTV's Queen of Political Reporting, Tabitha Soren?

Back in the old days of MTV - when they played videos, had good game shows like Remote Control and Singled Out, and The Real World actually tried to accomplish something (aside from hook-ups) - there was Tabitha, the little red-headed pixie, trying to be a serious journalist. While no one took her too seriously, at least she tried, and she looked pretty good doing it. Yes, I have a soft spot for redheads. She interviewed everyone, although he was tougher on George Bush than Bill Clinton, so I guess there was some legitimacy to it all. Then, POOF! Gone.

So, where is she? Right here......

Wait, that's not her.. Who put that there??what exactly are Digby Dollars. Rhino???

She kinda looks the same, although she's got the Plain Jane thing going on, because serious journalists don't wear makeup. Or so I've heard. She does a lot of documentaries on various topics, mostly leaning towards the liberal side - no surprise. Mostly, she got married and had three kids in the last few years. No word if they're registered Democrats yet!

A couple tidbits from the Useless Information file - before she got the MTV gig, the Texas native appeared in the Beastie Boys "Fight for the Right" video while still at NYU. Her real name - Tabitha Sornberger. If you want her to speak at your group's function, call her agent at 212-645-4200.

Wanna Hear Me on the Radio?? Listen this Wednesday...

If anyone asks which is easier - getting on the radio in Florence or getting a job in Florence, I can tell you firsthand. For me it's the former. I'll be on 970AM WJMX sometime between 7-9 Wednesday. I'll be on TJ's talk show live from the SIMT Center at Florence-Darlington Tech . I'll be chatting with TJ about the House Party for Rudy Giuliani at my hut Weds. night, and among a couple other things. No doubt TJ will put me on the spot too, with some topical stuff.
If you have the time, take a listen, and let me know how bad I am on air...

Is Clyburn Jumping Off the Obama Wagon, and Hitching Onto the Clinton Bus ? No Surprise Here..

Alright Jim, you and that other lady make a wish and pull ....

Time to toot my own horn again. I remember saying this about 6 months ago with regards to who Jim was going to endorse for President next year. I know the guy as well as he knows himself by now. One might say I'm in his head - scary thought for both of us. From now on, don't bother asking him what his motives are, just ask me. At least then you'll get an honest answer.

At an NAACP fundraiser in Charleston this week, Clyburn sat next , held hands with and gushed over Hillary Clinton, to the point that even the Community Times - the local black newspaper - was even asking had he just given his blessing to a Presidential candidate. Said the Whipmaster, "I know of no one that I hold more admiration and respect then I hold for Hillary Rodman Clinton. " Yes, it should be 'than I hold for Hillary Rodham Clinton', but I'll assume the Community Times is ignorant, and not Clyburn - that is how it was printed though... Strong words, don't you think?

Sure, Old Jim was really stroking Barack Obama along for a while there, but Jim makes every decision based on two things: Polls, and what Jim can get out of it. In this case, Hillary has got Obama dead to rights.

Obama did make a little headway when he got in the race. Everyone except Sam Brownback and Dennis Kucinich usually do. But he stalled out. I don't follow the Oprah Winfrey presidential candidate club, and thank God, most people don't either. But in reality, that has nothing to do with Clyburn's tepid support. Hillary nationally is now 23 points ahead of Obama - the nomination is hers to lose, and she won't lose it. Jim would love to endorse Obama, but he isn't going to - just check the recent history, and you'll know why..

To earn the nickname the "Carolina Kingmaker" you do actually need to endorse people that win every once in while, or at least have them win in areas they might normally win. Clyburn has not done that, and he needs to be extra careful he doesn't blow 2008 like he did 2004. Don't remember? Who did Clyburn endorse first? Dick Gephardt - the whitest man in America. Then he played it safe and went with John Kerry - and Kerry lost. So much for handing South Carolina on a silver platter. The DC media may anoint his endorsements like they are from Heaven itself, but the voters appear to think for themselves.

Now, that answers the first question, but what does Jim get out of this? To quote Coolio (another Old School Rap reference) Power and the Money, Money and the Power..... I've told this before, but I'll lay out Jim's plan for 2008. He endorses the sure fire winner in SC, then he can take credit for delivering SC and being "The Kingmaker". If Clinton wins in November, Clyburn goes back and cashes in - and he will ask to be the new Secretary of Transportation in the Clinton Administration, where he will use all of his power to get money for his bridge, the Inland Port, The Clyburn School of Transportation at SC State, and any other favors his buddies in Orangeburg need or want. Makes sense. If Clinton loses, Jim retires in 2010.

Now some of you might think that this would be pretty cool for us here. Bring back some of the bacon, right? Well, we send 535 people to DC with the same idea, and look what happens - pork, runaway spending, budget deficits, impending Social Security and Medicare bankruptcy...... Personally, I'd rather have Jim stuck in his office taking practice votes on useless apprporiations bills like he does now.

There. I've laid it all out for you. If you want to know waht else jim is thinking , just ask me. ;)

In Japan, They Call Me 'Reino-San'.....

Most of you know Hiro, the Japanese guy who rents my old house out while he is over here on his work visa with Honda. He always pays me early ( and a lot) , and he keeps the place cleaner than I ever did. On top of that, he brings back little gifts from Japan for me. How the guy can stay away from his wife and kids 48 of 52 weeks a year is beyond me, but he does it.
I ran into him while doing the yardwork yesterday, and he brought me some chocolates and candies. The funny part was he called me something that I never heard him call me before - Reino San. And he did it twice. In two years, it was usually 'Mr. Reino" or "Mr. Mike", so "Reino San" kind of took me by surprise.
It is a compliment, right?

Newt Gingrich Is a Pretty Smart Guy...

How Do You Stay Relevant without Running for Office? Newt Knows How....

Those of you who are involved at all in the GOP here in SC have probably gotten called like me from Newt Gingrich's American Solutions for Winning the Future Camp. He's having a series of forums nationwide to discuss how America needs to address the issues affecting itself today and in the future. There will be one in Florence at FMU's Bruce Auditorium on Sept. 29th. No, Newt won't be there - at least I don't think so.

You're probably asking , 'Mickey, aren't there enough people talking about how to fix America right now?'. Maybe, but they all seem to be running for President. Therefore, can they all be really trusted in what they say, or are they just kowtowing for votes? I think we all know the answer.

Running for President is a strange fish. Timing is everything. I personally know guys who are planning runs for Congress in 2012 now. Why? Timing. The pack is already full for 2008, but if you run once and lose, you lose a lot juice - ask John McCain and John Edwards. Planning that first run should not be taken lightly. So, what better thing to do than discussing the issues and providing solutions? No argument here....

If Gingrich does this right - finding answers to issues, and keep writing those books, I have little doubt that he will be the leading candidate for President in 2012, particularly if a Democrat (Ok, Hillary Clinton is a lock for the Dems) wins in November. Hey, it's never too early to plan. That's how Social Security got all messed up.

Of course, Gingrich has some baggage. He is the Dems version of Hillary. He's said some dumb things here and there. No doubt he is a lightning rod for criticism, but he did architect the single most effective vision for the GOP in the past 25 years. Makes a decent resume in the future, but let's find out what the solutions are next week....

Thank God for Football, Or It Would Be a LONG Weekend...

This weekend is gonna stink. Bills, and no checks for two weeks have put a major cramp in the social schedule this weekend. At least it's football season! If this were February, I'd be climbing the walls, because I hate basketball. So, in the interest of talking about Statewide issues, and to get some comments going here, let's talk football....

Suddenly, both Clemson and Carolina are Top 15 teams, which means they are both 3-0, but haven't quite got everything running on all cylinders. Blake Mitchell hasn't looked like a Senior yet, but the defense is fantastic. Clemson hasn't really played a good team yet (sorry Will, Florida State looks like dogcrap this year), but they have had running problems, which is a surprise. Will they both still be undefeated after this weekend? Here's my picks, then you can tell me how wrong I am in the comments......

Clemson at NC State: I haven't liked NC State since they turned down my application back in '86, so I have a hard time being objective, but I don't think that's a problem this year. Even NC State's coach doesn't think they're good this year. There is one interesting aspect gamewise - Clemson can't run, but can pass, while State can't stop the run, but is good against the pass. What do you do? You hit their weakness. The Tigers will run all day on the Wolfpack, then open it with the pass in the second half. Oh yeah - NC State sucks! Clemson 31-14.

Carolina vs. LSU: Ever see a chicken kill a Tiger? Well, don't expect to on Saturday either. There is no place hotter and tougher to play than a day game in Baton Rouge in September. Don't get me wrong, the Gamecocks will play tough on D all day, but unless Mitchell gets his game to top level fast, LSU is just too tough to score on. I imagine one of those heartbreakingly close games , where you think they have a chance, only to have the inevitable happen in the 4th quarter. Can The Ballcoach pull off another stunner? No. LSU 20-7.

Normally I'd say have a nice weekend, but I think I'm going to have plenty of time for posting, so keep an eye out.

Alicia Silverstone Gets Naked for PETA.....And I'm STILL Eating Meat.

OMG, She's Nude !.......... I am Totally Buggin'.

Is it just me, or does it look like she's lining up a putt on the 18th Green? I was all set to call it a night, when I hopped along this... Not a whole lot to comment on - it's all over the PETA website, promoting vegeterianism, along with some of her fave recipies and non-animal tested cosmetics.

I don't mind ads like these, it's just people trying to promote a healthy lifestyle I guess. It's the one's setting fire to SUV's and throwing red paint on my fur coat that I think go a bit overboard. That's it. Enjoy the view.....

Join the Team...Giuliani Camp Throws "House Parties for Rudy" September 26th....

Kid 'N Play Will not be Attending.... but they Should!!
Hey, my second Old School Rap reference today! Next I'll be blogging about Young MC and House of Pain - jump around ! jump around !! Eh, maybe not.
Here's an easy and less expensive way to get involved with Rudy's campaign. On Wednesday September 26th, the Giuliani Camp will be throwing their first nationwide 'House Parties for Rudy'. It's a less formal, more grassroots kind of fundraiser for Team Rudy. Bring whatever you want to donate, and you'll get a chance to meet other people working for the team. There will also be a live webcast from Hizzoner himself during the party.
Don't know where the nearest one is? Me too, but just drop me a note in the comments, or e-mail me at reino2004@msn.com , and I'll find out for you. Doesn't get much easier than that..... I know, I should be hosting one of these myself, but the last time I had a house party, 88 of you showed up, y'all got my dog drunk, and stole my Bon Jovi and Beastie Boys CD's........ Yes, it was 1988.

Leave It to the Japanese..... Square Watermelons ??

Attention Hugh Weathers: we've got a potential moneymaker here. Bonzai Watermelons... Yesiree, those friends of ours across the Pacific that have been kicking our butts for the past 30-odd years have done it again. Square Watermelons. While you think that it might be just a kooky visual gag, there is a theory behind the non-oblong fruit.

Ever stick a watermelon inside a fridge. Sure... Ever get anything in AFTER the watermelon goes in? Didn't think so. Well, the Japanese have put Feng Shui to use in that problem too...

Yep, a simple square glass case put around the fruit while still on the vine assists in keeping it's shape, and make it take up less space in the fridge. Some people just don't stop thinking.....

Now, while it is cute, and no doubt the square watermelons would rake in it's cost and then some in increased revenue, there is one scary quality to them. Let's do a side-by-side comparison....

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch...

Ahmadinejad Gets His Visitation Request....... "Allah Akbar ! I'm Going to Disney World, Baby."

Don't We All Wish That Finger Were Loaded.............
Fresh off of his rebuffed request to visit Ground Zero, Iranian Prime Minister Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is apparently getting his second request... he's going to Disney World ! Word is that little Mahmoudy is tickled pink!
"Man, am I stoked! I've wanted to see Mickey since I was little - well, I mean, since I was a kid. He's kinda my hero. Him and the Ayatollah. I'm gonna go on the Tea Cup ride, visit Epcot, and then I'm gonna hit Pleasure Island. I can't wait." While Ahmadinejad should have no trouble with seeing Epcot and Pleasure Island, he may not get all his wishes. You see, to get on some of the rides , you have to be THIS TALL, and the vertically challenged leader may be a wee bit too tiny to qualify.
The trail that has led to Ahmadinejad(Man, I hate spelling his name - what a pain) to end up at the Magic Kingdom has been a contraversial one. After visiting the UN and Columbia University, where he will speak, the Iranian leader wanted to lay a wreath at the Hallowed Ground in Lower Manhattan. Smartly, the NYPD has told him that his services were not needed or appreciated, and wisely so. Some have even questioned WHO he would be laying a wreath for - the victims or the terrorists.
So, instead Ahmadinejad will have to settle for the little black ears, and maybe a roller coaster ride or two - if he qualifies. When asked if he wanted to see anything else, Mahmoud was succinct, but specific. "I'd like to catch a NASCAR race - I'm a Dale Jr. guy".

When I Was in College.... Fat Kids Leading to Bigger Dorm Beds.

Look Familiar?? If You Lived on Campus, It Should...
It seems that the porking up of our kids are having secondary effects as they get older. American University in DC (of course) has decided that they will be replacing the standard single bed with double beds next year. There are a few reasons, but it appears the main reason is that the beds are getting to small for our growing (or fat) kids.
For those of you who ever slept on a dorm bed for 4 years, you're probably soundign like your grandp right now - "when I was in college, we slept on a pile of chicken feathers on the floor - and we liked it !!" I pulled that gig for 3 years myself, and it was no picnic, but that's part of being in school.
I guess it is a selling point to prospective students - colleges are trying to attract kids any way they can now. And I suppose they need to cater to the needs of a bulging freshmen class, because the kids are getting fatter, and there doesn't appear to be any change in sight. But some say there are other reasons for the change..... Any idea?
Ever shack up in a college bed? No small feat by any standards. I remember getting a better night's sleep by napping on the floor, rather than trying to fit two people on that maxipad-sized mattress. However, necessity is the mother of invention, and isn't that what college is about? On wonders if, by pandering too much to the kids needs, that we are dampening their creativity... The beds too small? Try a chair, tabletop, the window sill - maybe the dormway stairwell. OK, maybe not the stairwell.
I guess what I'm saying is that we don't need to cater to our kids every whim and grievance. That or I'm jealous and I college sometimes ! Personally, I would have settled for more washers and dryers than a bigger bed. Just thought it would be a fun first post to return with.
.

OK, Maybe I Was a Bit Premature...

Back in Business... I put this picture up, because I went to school with both Erick and Parrish from EPMD. In fact, I ran track with Parrish in Jr. High - he was the one winning, I was the one bringing up the rear! There - I hope this clears up any doubts about my street cred with the Old School Rap crowd.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback on the blog. A lot of it made sense, so I'll incorporate the advice. Work will not be included on the blog, and I'm going to try to proofread the posts first before I hit the publish button. I appreciate that you guys like the blog, that you care about me, and some of you find blogging just a bit sexy???
So, I'll keep posting, you keep commenting... Thanks everyone.

Time to Close the Curtain... SC6 Bids Farewell to the Blogosphere.

\
"This Is The End, My Lovely Friend - The End".
- Jim Morrison.
Well, here we are... Post Number 529 , almost 2 years after I started this, and the time has come to put an end to it. Around 500, I had kicked the idea around of ending it there, because I was running out of fresh material. Things picked up, but I have realized this week that for what little positives there are for having SC6, this blog has put a strain on my life , both personally and professionally, and it's time to get back to being Mike Reino - nice guy. The one everyone liked before I ran for Congress and County Council, before I let my big mouth continually get me in trouble.
I think you guys deserve and explanation why, so i'll do my best to do that, without getting into too much detail. First off, it looks like I'll be in the land of the working again. I got a job as an Account Executive with Qantum Communications here in Florence. The odd part was during the interview, none of the questions were about my abilities - the one advantage of having a certain amount of publicity is that a lot of people know you. The questions were about if I planned on running for office again. That's a bad sign..... I overcame it, but I don't need to have every customer and boss of mine thinking that in the back of their mind.
The second is personal. As much as I like the ego stroke that this blog gives me sometimes, I never gave a moment's thought about how it might bother those around me - people I care about. I was selfish and thoughtless, and I've said some extremely hurtful things that deeply offended someone close to me. She's a very private person ( I have to call her Ms. X for Christ's sake), and she did not sign up to be part of Mike Reino Inc.. There are trust issues that I need to remedy for her. When I can't take a picture for myself, because of worries that it will end up here, justifiably so, I need to fix that.
I have to walk away from her , at least for the time being. Not an easy thing for - I always think I can fix anything by talking it out. I can't this time. Time is the one thing i have to pin my hopes on , but I can show consideration for her and her privacy by giving this up. It's not a big sacrifice for me, but I think it will be a big relief for her - and my bosses. Politics never made me a dime, and certainly not what Ms. X has given me, so the choice is simple: I'm done.
I was going to make a Top Ten list of things I'll miss about her - I have thousands, some private, some which I will take to my grave because I promised. Others are okay to talk about - How she NEVER had to pay for cigarettes, making fart noises on her tummy, when she would use my full name ( as in, 'Mike Reino, you ain't nothing but a full-of-shit politician'), and the way her eyes bugged out when she thought I got her a car - classic... Mainly, I'll miss her smile, and making her smile. 'Wherever you go, I'll always know"......
For the rest of you that have wasted the past two years reading this crappy bunch of ramblings, I will get a little corny. When I was a kid, I used to watch The Carol Burnett Show every week with my family. She ended the show the same every time, with the same song and little tug on her left ear........
I'm so glad we had this time together,
Just to have a laugh, or sing a song....
Seems we just get started, then before you know it,
Comes the time we have to say SO LONG .....
LOVE.

Note to Rick Beltram: 'Trophy Wife' Is Not a Compliment...

OK Rick......... The One on the RIGHT is a Trophy.
Spartanburg County GOP Chair and possible narcissist Rick Beltram has found himself in a Olympic-sized pool of hot water this week. This after referring to Presidential Candidate Fred Thompson's wife Jeri as a "Trophy Wife" a a county meeting. Eeessshh !!
Let's look at this from all sides. Mine first. I have never met Rick - I rarely get Upstate. The only time I've ever seen him is the time he got on Hannity and Colmes, and they had to cut him off to allow others to talk. However, I do know Mike Green, and if a County Chair insults the wife of a candidate, then you report it. I'm sure I have a friend in the neighborhood who could add more about this....
Now, I do have a little experience in dealing with the 'what is she doing with him' question. Honestly, if someone called my wife a Trophy Wife, it would not bother me - but I'm not Fred Thompson. The more important point is from Jeri Thompson's view. She is not running for anything - her husband is. Labeling as a TW negates anything that the woman has ever done - and it appears she's done a lot. You basically objectify the woman based solely on her looks, and drag the debate down it's lowest denomination. All of the candidate's wives appear to be attractive and intelligent, so let's stick to the issues and the candidates. See, I am not a Cro-Magnon Ape stuck in a cave! :)
No, I am not the best person to give lectures on restraint when writing or giving a speech, but at least I usually say too much about myself, or I can back up why I said something. Rick, i don't see that here. You went over the line by insulting a candidate and his wife, and if I were Fred Thompson, I'd pass on the Fundraiser, and tell them exactly why. Good luck tyring to run for GOP Chair - and I'm not even talking about Statewide.

OJ, OJ, OJ........

OJ Simpson: The Dumbest Man on the Planet??

Someday, our kids will ask questions about OJ Simpson. About how could a guy who had everything a person could want - money, fame - and still manage to lose it all and continue to get his butt in trouble every 5 minutes.

A piece of advice, Juice. You and that medicine ball-sized head of yours are probably one of the most recognized faces in the world. If you accompany a bunch of guys to break into a hotel room and recover merchandise, they will see two things - your face, and a gun. Maybe next time, throw them an extra $20 and let them do it alone.

I haven't watched any of the news shows the past few days, but I'm sure Fred Goldman and Denise Brown are laughing at your stupidity. I doubt even they would ever conjure up a scenario to get you thrown in the clink like this.

Fear not, I'm sure you'll find a good attorney. I forgot - Johnnie Cochran is gone, F. Lee Bailey is retired, and Shapiro is doing commercials for his legal website. Better call Paris Hilton's attorney, or better yet, maybe you can get another jury full of suckers like last time....

Stupid.

SC6 Sports: Mike's Fantasy Baseball Team Gets Shafted in Playoffs...

Regular Season Champs Tie 8-8 in Playoffs, but Cubs Advance.....

No, this doesn't really matter, but let's have fun with it. After running the table the entire regular season, my Flotown Yankees ended up in a virtually 8-8 tie with Ed Palmer's Cubs squad in the first round of the playoffs. Not having had a tie the entire season, I didn't know if there was a tiebreaker. I guess there is, and I lost it, because Ed is now playing Bobby for the Championship next week.

I called Bobby to get a clarification on the tiebreaker......... and he has no idea. So, it looks like I lost, and no one knows why. :( Being the sore loser that I am, I will now push my loyal readers to harass Ed at his job at Eagle 92.9, letting him know that the Curse of the Cubbies will now continue for ANOTHER hundred years, or at least until 2015 - which is when the Cubs will beat Miami for the title, as told in Back to the Future II.

You can call Ed at 667-4600. Ed's has a good sense of humor, and I'm sure he'll find the calls interesting - at least the first 50.... My pick is Ed by a nose, 10-7.

Shocker !! NYU Study Finds Liberals Are Smarter Than Conservatives....

I'm just going to post this article that I read today on Slate.com, and you let me know what you think - or even if this makes sense.....
Liberal InterpretationRigging a study to make conservatives look stupid.
By William Saletan Posted Friday, Sept. 14, 2007, at 9:28 AM ET

Are liberals smarter than conservatives?
It looks that way, according to a study published this week in Nature Neuroscience. In a rapid response test—you press a button if you're given one signal, but not if you're given a different signal—the authors found that conservatives were "more likely to make errors of commission," whereas "stronger liberalism was correlated with greater accuracy." They concluded that "a more conservative orientation is related to greater persistence in a habitual response pattern, despite signals that this response pattern should change."

Does this mean liberal brains are fitter? Apparently. "Liberals are more responsive to informational complexity, ambiguity and novelty," the authors wrote. New York University, which helped fund the study, concluded, "Liberals are more likely than are conservatives to respond to cues signaling the need to change habitual responses." The study's lead author, NYU professor David Amodio, told London's Daily Telegraph that "liberals tended to be more sensitive and responsive to information that might conflict with their habitual way of thinking."

Habitual way of thinking. Informational complexity. Need to change. Those are sweeping terms. They imply that conservatives, on average, are adaptively weaker at thinking, not just button-pushing. And that implication has permeated the press. The Los Angeles Times told readers that the study "suggests that liberals are more adaptable than conservatives" and "might be better judges of the facts." Agence France Presse reported that conservatives in the study "were less flexible, refusing to deviate from old habits 'despite signals that this ... should be changed.' " The Guardian asserted, "Scientists have found that the brains of people calling themselves liberals are more able to handle conflicting and unexpected information."
These reports convey four interwoven claims. First, conservatives cling more inflexibly to old ways of thinking. Second, they're less responsive to information. Third, they're more obtuse to complexity and ambiguity. Fourth, they're less likely to change when the evidence says they should.
Let's take the claims one by one.

1. Habitual ways of thinking. Here's what the experiment actually entailed, according to the authors' supplementary document:
[E]ither the letter "M" or "W" was presented in the center of a computer monitor screen. … Half of the participants were instructed to make a "Go" response when they saw "M" but to make no response when they saw "W"; the remaining participants completed a version in which "W" was the Go stimulus and "M" was the No–Go stimulus. … Responses were registered on a computer keyboard placed in the participants' laps. … Participants received a two-minute break halfway through the task, which took approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Fifteen minutes is a habit? Tapping a keyboard is a way of thinking? Come on. You can make a case for conservative inflexibility, but not with this study.

2. Responsiveness to information. Again, let's consult the supplementary document:
Each trial began with a fixation point, presented for 500 ms. The target then appeared for 100 ms, followed by a blank screen. Participants were instructed to respond within 500 ms of target onset. A "Too slow!" warning message appeared after responses that exceeded this deadline, and "Incorrect" feedback was given after erroneous responses.
An "ms"—millisecond—is one-thousandth of a second. That means participants had one-tenth of a second to look at the letter and another four-tenths of a second to hit the button. One letter, one-tenth of a second. This is "information"?
3. Complexity and ambiguity. Go back and look at the first word of the excerpt from the supplementary document. The word is either. Participants were shown an M or a W. No complexity, no ambiguity. You could argue that showing them a series of M's and then surprising them with a W injects some complexity and ambiguity. But that complexity is crushed by the simplicity of the letter choice and the split-second deadline.
Time to interject here folks......... Is making sense to anyone?? Personally, I think anyone who submitted to this test should be disqualified for being an idiot...... Let's just take a bunch of Liberals and Conservatives and make them hit a feeder bar while watching Hannity & Colmes. Just another example of colleges wasting your tuition money.

I Think My Dog Is Getting Lazy.......

Now, we've all seen the cardboard cutout cop on the side of the road in Aiken. It looks like my dog has as well. Yes, Rocket is getting a bit derelict in his guard dog duties. While the little Tasmanian Devil was busy this morning wrecking the inside, there was my Spuds McKenzie doll, protecting the yard from critters and varmints !!

Let's get an idea of what El Destructo has done to Spuds. While it looks good from the back, a closer look in front shows the fluffy carnage....

Not pretty, is it?

You do have to give Rocket credit... His placement of Spuds was just about perfect. I was wondering whose dog snuck onto my porch for a second. I'd yell at him for being lazy, but he's busy asleep on the couch right now....

Clyburn Moves to End Iraq Funding, Earmark Money for SC State's Football Team Instead.

Bulldogs 38-3 Thumping to USC Causes Congressman to Earmark Funds to Improve Team........

House Majority Whip and 6th Congressional District Overlord James Clyburn , apparently dismayed over his alma mater's 38-3 dismantling at the hands of rival South Carolina, announced that upon his return to Washington, he will introduce legislation aimed at improving the school's sorry football program. It is believed to be Clyburn's first legislative attempt since Reconstruction.

Sounding almost like Jesse Jackson, Clyburn was nearly beside himself in his deluxe skybox overlooking Williams-Brice Stadium. "I am mortified, pertified, undignified ! This injustice must be stopped. These disparities must be rectified!" Clyburn was overheard crying.

After discussing the issue with his flunkies, Clyburn pulled a napkin from Seawell's and announced his plan - to discontinue the funding of the war in Iraq, and to divert all of the funds to the football program at SC State. "All this school needs is to be treated like Clemson and USC, and the team will be a Division I powerhouse in 3-5 years", quoted Clyburn. "My job from Day One has been to end all the disparities - real and perceived - that hold SC State back from being the Crown Jewel of South Carolina Universities. Whoever doesn't like it - Bump You."

According to the napkin, the plans are grand: A 167,000 seat arena ( the approximate size of USC and Clemson stadiums combined), with a retractable roof, 225 skyboxes, it's own Interstate ramp, and a channel dug 33 miles to ensure easy access from Clyburn's home on Lake Marion via boat to the stadium. "I've already got a name picked out..... GUESS !!!" joked the Whipmaster. Plans are to hire Bill Parcells and Bill Cowher as Head coaches, and to attract every available top level recruit through, uh, well..........you know.

Sources at the Pentagon are furious but concerned if Clyburn's plan takes hold. "You read the papers - he's the most powerful and influential man in THE WORLD", said one insider who remained anonymous. "All he needs to do is make one call, and it's over - no war, no money, nothing." When told that Clyburn's two pet projects - The Sparkleberry Bridge and The Lake Marion Water Authority - both seem to be stuck in limbo, the insider seemed relieved. "Really?? Damn, I guess he has been busy pushing through that Minimum Wage increase that no one uses... I feel much better."

SC6 Exclusive....... Have a Nice Weekend !

Well, the weekend dance card looks booked solid this weekend: meeting Ms. X for a party tonight, and my brother Matt is coming up from Hilton Head tomorrow. So I might skip this weekend as far as posting goes.

To start the weekend off on a good note, here are my favorite things - puppies!! On the right is my little El Destructo - Rocket. Next to him is his brother, Ripken. They usually look happier than that. Enjoy whatever Mother Nature dishes out at you this weekend.....

SC6 Goes Big Time.... We Get Picked Up By Sunlight Foundation's Blog List.

I'm still unemployed today, but the free gigs continue to pile up!! This week, SC6 was contacted by the Sunlight Foundation, which asked to put my musings, in depth write-ups and meltdowns on their list of SC Blogs. Guess I need to start watching C-SPAN again so I can have some good material.

Sunlight is a "Non-Partisan group, founded in 2006 with the goal of using technology to enable citizens to learn more about what their elected representatives are doing, to help reduce corruption, ensure greater transparency andaccountability by government, and foster public trust in the vital institutions of democracy. We are unique in that technology and the power of the Internet are at the core of every one of our efforts." Sounds nice.

What does this mean for SC6? Well, it could gain a lot of publicity for yours truly, which is not usually a good thing. Essentially, this means that I'll tick off people nationally instead of just here in Florence, ensuring that I will be unable to find or keep a job in all of the US. What have I just done????

I'm not sure that Fred in Missoula, Montana will be too interested in reading about the daily foibles that make SC6 the most personal political blog in God's Country, so maybe I'll attempt to do my blog more like the others.....just better.

Gadzooks!! Thompson Even With Rudy in SC ??

"Fred(O), is my GOP brother, but Fred(O) is weak, and he's stupid"
Michael Corleone, paraphrased from The Godfather II.
I never pass up a chance to quote from the Godfather.... I'm only kidding about the comment - I don't think Fred Thompson is weak or stupid. He's just not my guy.
Yes, Thompson (duh-duh!!) is in the race, and he has closed the gap on Rudy Giuliani in South Carolina to a dead heat (duh-duh!). By the way,the duh-duh is that noise you hear on Law & Order..... So with that, E-rudite people like myself must be shaking in our britches, right? Well, not quite, Jackson.
I was peeking at the poll roundup on Real Clear Politics, and although they don't list all the candidates, I do have a theory on the ramifications of Fred being official now. Disagree with me if you must - that's what the blog is for. Short term, Rudy has lost about 6-7 points, but they are not a drop of his polls. The Thompson entry will have one good outcome. All those 4-5 point candidates who are all trying to go far right, but have as much traction as a Lincoln Town with banana peel tires trying to cross Hudson Bay in January are done. Fini', Merde', Achtung Baby.....So, at long last, the debates that are often mistaken for a High School Commencement ceremony will finally be down to 5 guys - Giuliani, Thompson, McCain, Romney and Ron Paul........oops! I meant Mike Huckabee. Thanks for playing guys, the rest of you have parting gifts as you leave.
The other good news for Rudy? Someone else finally gets to play whipping boy in the GOP. For six months now, Rudy's been ahead in the polls, and with it, he's been attacked from every possible angle - he's a bad Catholic, he's too nice to gays, he's too mean to gays, he migh not get along with his kids, etc. I'm sure Team Giuliani will gladly give up having to focus so much on spinning BS attacks ever other day. Let Thompson play with it for a while - it might make him sorry he's running.
Now, can Thompson take South Carolina away from Rudy? Sure. Just look at the Geography - or for those in Abbeville, take a gander at the map. Hmmm, who might have a better shot in SC? The one from New York, Massachusetts, Arizona or Tennessee? Tough one to take a stab at, eh? I've spent every second of my life here for the past 10 1/2 years, and I'm still not local! The man speaks the language spoken here, he's just going to have an easier time. It can have one detriment though. If UT knocks off the Gamecocks, watch him drop a few points overnight!
There, i've analyzed it while still invoking the Reagan Commandment. Give me your take on it. Welcome to the race for real, Fred! Let the fun begin.....
