Casualties in Iraq Fall to All-Time Low..

Like it or not, it's fact that the surge is Iraq has worked. In July, the number of troops killed in action was the lowest since the war began. Only five soldiers died, as compared to 66 in July , 2007. Four others died in non-combat duty, such as accidents.
Now, even one death may be one too many - that one is someone's son or daughter, father or mother. But, the corner has been turned there, and if it continues, we will soon be at the point where we can leave Iraq, which is what all of us really wants..
I have one caveat.... Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups are like cockroaches - you stamp a couple out, and you think they're gone, but they're really just hiding in another corner. That's what I worry about. As Iraq has gone our way, Afghanistan and Pakistan leave some big questions and problems. Iraq was where the fun was back in 2003, so they went there. But the game got a lot tougher for them the past year, so they've gotten smart, and moved to greener pastures - or mountains in Western Pakistan.
I have some worries of a smaller Al-Qaeda recharging their batteries, and prepare in the safety of Pakistan for another attack. Does that mean we need to load up and go into Pakistan with 150,000 troops too? No. This is a covert, small operation that we can do, and honestly, what we should have done in Iraq once we kicked out Saddam Hussein. Nice and quiet - just like a cockroach.....

  2. If there's one thing I'm still trying to learn is that you can't change yesterday, although I don't always remember it.

I'm just glad to see that we may be near the end of Iraq.

  3. I'm looking at the entire picture ... Syrians move forces to watch US forces in Iraq, pull out of Lebanon ... Khadaffi, fearing he'll be regime-changed next, hands over his nuclear arsenal ... tens of thousands of militants zip-locked in Iraq, instead of Western cities ... there were mistakes, but the outcome is starting to look promising.
