I Think My Dog Is Getting Lazy.......

Now, we've all seen the cardboard cutout cop on the side of the road in Aiken. It looks like my dog has as well. Yes, Rocket is getting a bit derelict in his guard dog duties. While the little Tasmanian Devil was busy this morning wrecking the inside, there was my Spuds McKenzie doll, protecting the yard from critters and varmints !!

Let's get an idea of what El Destructo has done to Spuds. While it looks good from the back, a closer look in front shows the fluffy carnage....

Not pretty, is it?

You do have to give Rocket credit... His placement of Spuds was just about perfect. I was wondering whose dog snuck onto my porch for a second. I'd yell at him for being lazy, but he's busy asleep on the couch right now....

Clyburn Moves to End Iraq Funding, Earmark Money for SC State's Football Team Instead.

Bulldogs 38-3 Thumping to USC Causes Congressman to Earmark Funds to Improve Team........

House Majority Whip and 6th Congressional District Overlord James Clyburn , apparently dismayed over his alma mater's 38-3 dismantling at the hands of rival South Carolina, announced that upon his return to Washington, he will introduce legislation aimed at improving the school's sorry football program. It is believed to be Clyburn's first legislative attempt since Reconstruction.

Sounding almost like Jesse Jackson, Clyburn was nearly beside himself in his deluxe skybox overlooking Williams-Brice Stadium. "I am mortified, pertified, undignified ! This injustice must be stopped. These disparities must be rectified!" Clyburn was overheard crying.

After discussing the issue with his flunkies, Clyburn pulled a napkin from Seawell's and announced his plan - to discontinue the funding of the war in Iraq, and to divert all of the funds to the football program at SC State. "All this school needs is to be treated like Clemson and USC, and the team will be a Division I powerhouse in 3-5 years", quoted Clyburn. "My job from Day One has been to end all the disparities - real and perceived - that hold SC State back from being the Crown Jewel of South Carolina Universities. Whoever doesn't like it - Bump You."

According to the napkin, the plans are grand: A 167,000 seat arena ( the approximate size of USC and Clemson stadiums combined), with a retractable roof, 225 skyboxes, it's own Interstate ramp, and a channel dug 33 miles to ensure easy access from Clyburn's home on Lake Marion via boat to the stadium. "I've already got a name picked out..... GUESS !!!" joked the Whipmaster. Plans are to hire Bill Parcells and Bill Cowher as Head coaches, and to attract every available top level recruit through, uh, well..........you know.

Sources at the Pentagon are furious but concerned if Clyburn's plan takes hold. "You read the papers - he's the most powerful and influential man in THE WORLD", said one insider who remained anonymous. "All he needs to do is make one call, and it's over - no war, no money, nothing." When told that Clyburn's two pet projects - The Sparkleberry Bridge and The Lake Marion Water Authority - both seem to be stuck in limbo, the insider seemed relieved. "Really?? Damn, I guess he has been busy pushing through that Minimum Wage increase that no one uses... I feel much better."

SC6 Exclusive....... Have a Nice Weekend !

Well, the weekend dance card looks booked solid this weekend: meeting Ms. X for a party tonight, and my brother Matt is coming up from Hilton Head tomorrow. So I might skip this weekend as far as posting goes.

To start the weekend off on a good note, here are my favorite things - puppies!! On the right is my little El Destructo - Rocket. Next to him is his brother, Ripken. They usually look happier than that. Enjoy whatever Mother Nature dishes out at you this weekend.....

SC6 Goes Big Time.... We Get Picked Up By Sunlight Foundation's Blog List.

I'm still unemployed today, but the free gigs continue to pile up!! This week, SC6 was contacted by the Sunlight Foundation, which asked to put my musings, in depth write-ups and meltdowns on their list of SC Blogs. Guess I need to start watching C-SPAN again so I can have some good material.

Sunlight is a "Non-Partisan group, founded in 2006 with the goal of using technology to enable citizens to learn more about what their elected representatives are doing, to help reduce corruption, ensure greater transparency andaccountability by government, and foster public trust in the vital institutions of democracy. We are unique in that technology and the power of the Internet are at the core of every one of our efforts." Sounds nice.

What does this mean for SC6? Well, it could gain a lot of publicity for yours truly, which is not usually a good thing. Essentially, this means that I'll tick off people nationally instead of just here in Florence, ensuring that I will be unable to find or keep a job in all of the US. What have I just done????

I'm not sure that Fred in Missoula, Montana will be too interested in reading about the daily foibles that make SC6 the most personal political blog in God's Country, so maybe I'll attempt to do my blog more like the others.....just better.

Gadzooks!! Thompson Even With Rudy in SC ??

"Fred(O), is my GOP brother, but Fred(O) is weak, and he's stupid"
Michael Corleone, paraphrased from The Godfather II.
I never pass up a chance to quote from the Godfather.... I'm only kidding about the comment - I don't think Fred Thompson is weak or stupid. He's just not my guy.
Yes, Thompson (duh-duh!!) is in the race, and he has closed the gap on Rudy Giuliani in South Carolina to a dead heat (duh-duh!). By the way,the duh-duh is that noise you hear on Law & Order..... So with that, E-rudite people like myself must be shaking in our britches, right? Well, not quite, Jackson.
I was peeking at the poll roundup on Real Clear Politics, and although they don't list all the candidates, I do have a theory on the ramifications of Fred being official now. Disagree with me if you must - that's what the blog is for. Short term, Rudy has lost about 6-7 points, but they are not a drop of his polls. The Thompson entry will have one good outcome. All those 4-5 point candidates who are all trying to go far right, but have as much traction as a Lincoln Town with banana peel tires trying to cross Hudson Bay in January are done. Fini', Merde', Achtung Baby.....So, at long last, the debates that are often mistaken for a High School Commencement ceremony will finally be down to 5 guys - Giuliani, Thompson, McCain, Romney and Ron Paul........oops! I meant Mike Huckabee. Thanks for playing guys, the rest of you have parting gifts as you leave.
The other good news for Rudy? Someone else finally gets to play whipping boy in the GOP. For six months now, Rudy's been ahead in the polls, and with it, he's been attacked from every possible angle - he's a bad Catholic, he's too nice to gays, he's too mean to gays, he migh not get along with his kids, etc. I'm sure Team Giuliani will gladly give up having to focus so much on spinning BS attacks ever other day. Let Thompson play with it for a while - it might make him sorry he's running.
Now, can Thompson take South Carolina away from Rudy? Sure. Just look at the Geography - or for those in Abbeville, take a gander at the map. Hmmm, who might have a better shot in SC? The one from New York, Massachusetts, Arizona or Tennessee? Tough one to take a stab at, eh? I've spent every second of my life here for the past 10 1/2 years, and I'm still not local! The man speaks the language spoken here, he's just going to have an easier time. It can have one detriment though. If UT knocks off the Gamecocks, watch him drop a few points overnight!
There, i've analyzed it while still invoking the Reagan Commandment. Give me your take on it. Welcome to the race for real, Fred! Let the fun begin.....

My Own 9/11 Tribute....

I was going to let everone else handle the 9/11 tributes, because I try to make these posts personal. Although I didn't personally know any of the victims, my college did lose 11 graduates on that day. So, I'm taking this time to honor those at my alma mater that died.

Some were cops , some were firefighters, stockbrokers, analysts, etc. Most of them were my age or younger, out to make their mark in the real world. That was taken away, but their memory lives on in all Americans.

Do You Know This Man? If You Live in Florence County, You Should.

Florence County Administrator Richard Starks - The Smartest Guy in Local Government.
The Florence GOP finally got back into gear after it's Summer siesta, although judging by the poor turnout, some are still on holiday. Continuing it's County Government series we had Administrator Richard Starks. I'm not sure exactly how we were able to get this man, but the past two years with him running the county ship have been a godsend to us.
Luckily, Richard was pining away down in Colleton County when we here in the Pee Dee realized that we needed a PROFESSIONAL administrator to handle things here, not a politician. The results of the shuffle have been swift and immediate: 1000 new jobs coming to the county, 1.2 Billion in outside investment, more department accountability, and systems that are 21st Century, not pre-Reconstruction. I haven't seen a dime of it yet, but after this I expect the check will be in the mail. ;)
Best thing about Starks is his humility. I almost had to tie him down to let me take a picture for this post. I don't think the guy has any interest in politics, he is quiet, straightforward, and not afraid to tell you when a process is outdated or stupid - although not in those terms. He's too nice. The man just does his job, and he is good at it. Keep up the good work!

Get Ready for a Most Anti-Climactic Report on Iraq...

Ladies and Gentlemen.......... We now have the announcement that you've all been waiting for!! Give it up for General David Petraeus, and Ambassador Ryan Crocker !! Would be more interesting if we locked all parties involved in a closet for a couple weeks before they testify in front of Congress, don't you think? Just like I thought a couple months ago, no one bothered to keep an open mind.
Word is that Petraeus and Crocker will recommend no major changes until the Spring, that there are some security advances, but political gains still need to be met. No big surprise there. We all watch TV, so we've got an idea of where we are. However, I would like to hear these guys talk in depth about everything before I make up my mind - so why can't everyone in DC??
Typical of all US Senators - who all feel they are smarter than everyone else - everyone hit the airwaves today to tell us what is REALLY going on before Petraeus and Crocker take the mic. Joe Biden, who seems to be running for President, although no one has noticed, and Lindsey Graham were on the Sunday morning shows to pontificate on what we should do, based on, well........ based on their own opinions. Couldn't wait two days, eh guys? Such is politics.
The Democrats want us out now, and that Bush is just playing a four corners-type of defense to wait and pass it on to the next President. Republicans do seem to understand that leaving Iraq will likely turn it into a quagmire, but how exactly are we going to win? Tough questions for Petraeus and Crocker - and only them. Maybe we can add a little excitement to the meeting....... ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE ???????
.

Astrology and Politics: Find Out What Your Candidate Is REALLY Like..

Here's an interesting one we made up here. I got this sarcastic list of personality types based on your astrological sign, and I added a political twist to it.....
We exhaustively researched (for 15 minutes) all of our Federal Representatives and Senators, as well as the major Presidential candidates - sorry, I couldn't care less what Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich's signs are. We also added our Governor and Gov. Lite. I think it adds a lot of insight into what really makes them tick...... That, or it just shows that all politicians are egomaniacal a-holes. You decide.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb 18) - You have an inventive mind and are inclined to be progressive. You lie a great deal. You make the same mistakestedly because you are stupid. Everyone thinks you are a jerk. Gresham Barrett.

PISCES (Feb 19-Mar 20) - You have a vivid imagination and often think you are being followed by the FBI or CIA. You have a minor influence on your friends and people resent you for flaunting your power. You lack confidence and are a general loser. Mitt Romney.

ARIES (Mar21-Apr 20) - You are the pioneer type and think most people are quick-tempered, impatient, and scornful of advice. You are a prick. Andre Bauer.

TAURUS (Apr 21-May 20) - You are practical and persistent. You have a dogged determination and work like hell. Most people think you are stubborn and bullheaded. You are nothing but a communist.

GEMINI (May 21-Jun 20) - You are a quick and intelligent thinker. People like you because you are bisexual. You are inclined to expect too much for too little. This means you are a cheap bastard. Geminis are notorious for thriving on incest. Rudy Giuliani, John Edwards, Mark Sanford.

CANCER (Jun 21-Jul 22) - You are sympathetic and understanding to other peoples problems, which makes you a sucker. You are always putting things off. That is why you will always be on welfare and won't be worth a penny. Everybody in prison is a Cancer. Lindsey Graham, Myself.

LEO (Jul 23-Aug 22) - You consider yourself a born leader. Others think you're an idiot. Most Leos are bullies. You are vain and cannot tolerate honest criticism. Your arrogance is disgusting. Leo people are thieving sods and spend most of their lives kissing mirrors. Jim Clyburn, Barack Obama, Fred Thompson, Joe Wilson.

VIRGO (Aug 23-Sep 22) - You are the logical type and hate disorder. This nitpicking is sickening to your friends. You are cold and unemotional and often fall asleep while having sex. Virgos make good bus drivers and pimps. John McCain, Jim DeMint

LIBRA (Sep 23-Oct 22) - You are the artistic type and have a difficult time with reality. If you are male, you are probably queer. Chances for employment and monetary gain are nil. Most Libra women are whores. All Libras die of venereal disease. Bob Inglis.

SCORPIO (Oct 23-Nov 21) - The worst of the lot. You are shrewd in business and cannot be trusted. You shall achieve the pinnacle of success because of your total lack of ethics. You are a perfect S.O.B.. Most Scorpios are murdered. Hillary Clinton, John Spratt.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 22-Dec 21) - You are optimistic and enthusiastic. You have a reckless tendency to rely on luck since you have no talent. The majority of Sagittarius' are drunks. You are not worth the time of day. Henry Brown.

CAPRICORN (Dec 22-Jan 19) - You are conservative and are afraid of taking risks. You are basically spineless. There has never been a Capricorn of any importance. Become a monk.
Once again, i didn't make these reviews up, but some of them are quite accurate. If this hasn't helped you decide which candidate to vote for in the future, my advice is to vote for a Taurus or Capricorn...

Sorry for the Absence, But Life Got In the Way...

I apologize for the long time between posts, but things have been in quite a state of flux the past month. Work has been far from enjoyable - my advice to the local BMW owners is to FUCKING CHILL !! For a while , I swore I was going to get fired, but I think it's passed. Time will tell.
The main cause of upheaveal though has been social. I met a woman a month or so ago, and we hit it off right from the start. She is smart, beautiful, funny, and most importantly - she is COOL AS ALL HELL !! In a nutshell, this girl gets me like no one I have ever met. I can only remember once before in my life where I met a girl like this, and I didn't try, mainly because I was told I wouldn't be able to handle dating her - and they were probably right.
Of course, there are extenuating circumstances that roadblock anything happening now. Of course, I figured I could put on my Superman costume, show off my devastasting handsomeness and my disarming charm, and overcome these problems - not quite. I almost completely blew it. One request - she has the blog address, so those of you who do know her, please skip using names or listing the roadblocks right now. I may have to kill you otherwise...........:)
Being the nutjob that I am, I tried to fit a square peg (and other things) into the proverbial round hole, and in the process, I almost permanently screwed stuff up. This threw me for a mental loop and into a nice funk for about a week, but I have come back nicely. I've learned to admit mistakes, and she is cool enough to forgive me. Sure, I don't expect to be dating her right now, but that's okay. Every minute with her is pure gold, and I'll just enjoy it and maybe hope for the best. I'll quote a line from the Shawshank Redemption...
"Never give up on hope. Hope is a good thing - maybe the best of things."
LOVE YA, BABE !!! ;)

Soap Star Endorses Wookie for President..

I Did It All For the Wookie, the Wookie - So You Can Take That Cookie......
' Days of our Lives' star Victoria Rowell will be in South Carolina this week to stump for her choice for President - Chewbacca. Even though it's not certain if Chewy is a US citizen - so far he has only produced a Drivers License from the Desert Planet of Tattooine - this has not phased Rowell from stumping for her favorite Wookie.
Truth be told, I had to Google Victoria Rowell just to find out who she is.... Hillary Clinton may not want her stumping on her behalf if she wants to win. Anyone who watches the 'stories' on daytime TV knows that she is insane, and she cheated on Kristoff St. John last year !!
Geez, I mean really people !!!

SC6 Exclusive: African-American Minister to Run for 6th Congressional Seat.

GOP Candidate Rev. Charles Butler, and his Wife.
I ran into a big surprise this week in Kingstree. Aside from finding Republicans in Williamsburg County, I also met Charles Butler. Charles announced there that he is intending to run for the Republican nomination for the 6th Congressional seat in the US House. That seat is currently being rented by Jim Clyburn, although a debate is brewing locally on whether he actually is doing anything in that capacity anymore.
Butler is a Minister in Orangeburg, and he feels that Clyburn has turned his back on the Christian values that are prevalent in his district. While this is similar to the platform espoused by Gary McLeod, I haven't heard Butler mention putting the US back on the Gold Standard, ending Social Security or banning the US Senate.
While Butler is a political novice, there are several things he has that would make a better candidacy than McLeod or even myself. He is young, well-spoken, friendly, he can out-faith Clyburn with ease, and he is African-American. My hope would be that he has a solid platform of political issues to apply from his faith, rather than the race being just a shift from the Constitution to the Bible.
I'm not endorsing Butler after just one visit, but I am willing to assist any Republican interested in running to make sure they don't make the same mistakes I made in 2004. If you are interested in meeting Butler, my best advice is to attend a local GOP meeting this Fall. I know he has the list - I gave it to him!
Good Luck, Charles !

Look !! Republicans In Williamsburg County !! They DO Exist !

Is It a Herd of Unicorn? Nope, it's GOP in Kingstree !!

I went out on the road to search for help in the District for Rudy, and I went to Brown's BBQ - excellent spicy BBQ ! In fact, I didn't realize I passed the Schoolhouse in Scranton to eat there.

Anyway, the joke I always heard was that if you put a $100 bill on the intersection of 52 and 261 in Kingstree, who would get it - Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, A Democrat or a Republican?? The answer? The Democrat, because the other three don't exist there. Sorry.

Truth is, Williamsburg County is 35% Republican - not Red by any means, but better than most think. Barbara Mishoe is working to cultivate and motivate the base. Restarting a county party is a tall order, but my best wishes to her to achieve that. I'll help any way I can.

.

'Extreme Akim' ?? When Did I Miss This???

What happened to 'The Strong Arm' ?? Akim Anastopoulo of Charleston, is now "Extreme Akim" the Judge on 'An Eye for an Eye' - a court show so stupid , that it makes Judge Judy look downright cerebral.

Maybe, it's Kato Kaelin being the sidekick, maybe it's Morpheus the Bailiff, or maybe it's the rulings - 'I hereby order you to wrestle each other in creamed corn" - that's bad. To think I used to pass this knucklehead's office on Orleans Dr. everyday, and this guy's doing this now.

We really should take those TV attorney's seriously though.

Driving Mr. Rudy: My Two Hours With Our Next President...

"Hey Rudy, Can You Spare $50k So I Can Run for Congress?"
"Forget it, Kid !"
Yesterday, I got a great opportunity - to assist someone that I am excited about helping. The Giuliani campaign called me last week to get a couple sets of wheels and drivers for a fundraiser in Florence County. My bosses at Newsome Automotive in Florence said no problem, although I don't think they understand the security that surrounds Presidential candidates. Sorry guys, I can't drive Rudy to the dealership for pictures. Ugh!
With Bobby riding as my Tonto in the other truck, we picked up the crew at the Florence Airport, and took them to Ken Ard's home in the middle of nowhere. Thanks to Ken for letting us stay outside, and for not feeding us. I can't get into details about the trip there and back, because of the Vegas rule - what is said in the car STAYS in the car..... However, I will give you my observations based on it.
Rudy is a Taskmaster.
There is no George Bush - Karl Rove 'genius' talking head relationship. He has nobody feeding him comments or opinions, and it shows. Ever notice that Rudy doesn't have to look into the clouds for answers? It's easy when you're on top of your own ideas. Rudy is in charge, and his staffers do as he requests.
Rudy is Real.
The guy you see on TV is the guy in the truck. Rudy asked me plenty of personal questions in the limited time, and driving through the numerous farms, he noticed the dried out corn, and wanted to know what do they do with it, and what is the impact of it locally. Nice. I was worried they'd keep asking "Where the hell are you taking us?" !!
Rudy Is Tough. Good.
Not everything on the campaign trail is peaches and cream. No details about what the discussion was about, but I will say this - Rudy has a way of telling you what he wants, an how he wants it, but without raising his voice, or demeaning anyone. Well, just about anyone! I would love to have a boss like Rudy in my job, and it's that kind of LEADERSHIP that America needs.
I'm glad to tell you that Rudy Giuliani did not disappoint me in any way. I always knew I was a good judge of character. The only single thing I ever saw in politics that impressed me more was in 2004 , when Jim DeMint came to speak in Orangeburg, and only 8 people showed up - and he spent all 2 hours at a single table with all of them!
There you have it - my Man Love of Rudy. Seriously, I had a good time, although I wish I had time to chat with the 20 people I knew there, including Karen Floyd - she still remembers me. If you want to help out a campaign of your choice, you can do things like this too. However, if it isn't for Rudy, don't expect any help from me!

What Is So Important That Mike Is Taking a Half Day Tomorrow??

No, I'm not meeting up for a 'nooner' - Big Political News Manana, as our friends of Fidel would say. Check in late Tuesday or Weds. AM for details............
