A study was done recently by the University of Wolverhampton(?) in England, in which their goal was to find the world's oldest jokes. The winner? A joke from 1900 BC by the ancient Sumerians, which in now Southern Iraq - talk about irony...
The real irony is that through thousands of year of history, there is one constant - humor has always been down in the gutter. Need evidence? Here is the oldest joke: "Something which has never occured since time immemorial - a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap."
Not super funny, but it's pretty funny that fart jokes have survived all this time. Some things are just too good to go away... but the smell usually fades after a minute.
