I am really down today - probably as down as I've been since September. The dealership in Beaufort hasn't called back, and another possible job in Hilton Head will not happen until March. Right now, I'm spending 10 hours a day doing a job that 1) I hate and 2) I suck at..... I have no money, i'm not getting paid this week, and the mortgages and car payment are all due.

Hilton Head Island: A Microcosm of the Immigration Conundrum...Yes, I Swallowed a Dictionary !
I meant to post on this earlier, but I got busy. There is one thing that I have noticed here that absolutely stunned me is how many illegal immigrants are here. I kid you not when I tell you that there are more Mexicans in Hilton Head than whites, and black people are almost non-existent. This area is a perfect example on why we will never fix immigration - because those in power don't want to fix it.
Hilton Head Island is a beautiful place. Beautiful and expensive, at least as far as real estate goes. Every square foot of the island is landscaped and preened to perfection. To keep the grass a perfect two inches, and the shrubs just so, it takes a lot of labor. The same goes for all the restaurants, supermarkets and other unskilled and low-wage jobs. On the one hand, if it weren't for all the illegals, I wouldn't get lunch every day.
On the other hand, no one seems to be making a big push to fix it either. Why? Because the well off profit tremendously from the cheap labor. And those rich people have buddies in Columbia and Washington that they gave big donations. You could a fence around the island, and things wouldn't change. Don't expect things to change here anytime soon, so here is a piece of advice. If you want to be understood here, learn Spanish.

The Mike Reino Radio Show ???
It's a Good Thing I Work at a Body Shop...
And I hadn't even been drinking !! Just call me Crash........ This is one of the problems when you leave trees all over the parking lot. I was backing out at the Bi-Lo when this railroad tie jumped out behind me - at least that's how I recall the event.
Looks like I'll need another favor from Matt......

Want to Learn About Politics ?? Watch Dick Morris..
As Lee Corso Would Say.... Not So Fast , My Friend !!
Today's life lesson. Not everything in life is guaranteed. It's nice to know that I can figure these things out after 39 years!! No, I'm not working Butler yet. The service manager didn't get a chance to talk to the owner, so I just went down to Hilton Head and kept busting my ass at Matt's bodyshop. At least I'm working.
I might get the call tomorrow, maybe not. At the rate these guys are procrastinating, it may be years end before I get hired. I got up at 6AM to get to Beaufort on time, so I'm a little cranky from a lot of work and no sleep - damned cat!
Like I said, nothing in life is guaranteed - or easy for that matter. Just because something is important to you, that doesn't mean it matters to anyone else. Work, love, blogging, politics - it's all the same. I've never been a patient guy, so this stuff drives me crazy.
The good news is I worked real hard today, so my biceps are nice and pumped, and I've definitely lost a few pounds since I started here. So, I'll keep scuffing and taping and prepping fenders and bumpers, and wait for them to call - at least until Wednesday !

Rudy Giuliani on Global Competitiveness....
I don't have much to blog on today, unless I want to bitch about the Giants losing (THREE interception returns for TD's?)... Instead, I've had this clip of Rudy speaking on the US in the Global Marketplace.. Not the most exciting stuff , unless real issues matter to you.
Just to note a couple things: Rudy is not referring to notes, he is speaking extemperaneously. He is not speaking in sound bites, but in regular sentences in plain speak about the issues. The man knows what he is talking about. Lastly, Rudy has been a busy beaver. I think he had been to 93 countries since he ended his term as Mayor - that's more than a country a month. Wow!!

Pot Smokers for Ron Paul - The Real Revolution...
Hope for America.......... Or Smoke for America ??
I had an enlightening conversation with Ms. X this week. We discuss politics a bit, but I'm not here to talk her into voting for Rudy Giuliani, unless she wants to. I'm not sure it's worked yet..... Anyway, she said to me "I heard there's a guy who is running to legalize pot." I hadn't heard this from anyone, but I had an idea who it was. "You mean Ron Paul?" I asked.... "Yeah, that's him", she answered. Then it struck me. That's why all the college kids are working for him. .....
Usually, I'm bit sharper than this, but I've been out of the loop, and I don't pay much attention to the guy running 7th in the polls. Yep, the Ron Paul Revolution (or is it the Ronalution?) is being pushed not by a group of neo-cons (or REAL Republicans), but by Pot smokers hoping for the legalization of marijuana.... Dude.... REALLY???
That's what it looks like from here, Spicoli.... Nevermind the fact that the President has no power to legalize drugs - may I refer you to "I'm Just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock. If that were the case, Paul would have more power staying in the House of Representatives, but we're talking about the motivations of his supporters. It reminds me of when I ran for Congress, and I had voters who liked me because "I hate that nigger Clyburn". That wasn't my reason for running, but what can I do? Same thing.
I'm sure Ron Paul isn't running to legalize pot - at least I'm pretty sure.... But maybe his supporters are hoping he does. The 'grassroots campaign' seems to be reminiscent of the Howard Dean campaign of 2004. He'll have his 5 minutes, then go out like a nut.. WOOHOO!!!
Hey Bud, let's work on a political campaign !!

Rep. Shirley Hinson Resigns.....
Hinson said Friday she has accepted a full-time job at a Lowcountry center that helps people earn graduate degrees from different South Carolina colleges. She has worked part-time at the center, which is affiliated with the College of Charleston.
In her new role at Lowcountry Graduate Center, which begins Dec. 1, Hinson will help raise scholarship money and will coordinate with business leaders to create graduate programs that benefit the local economy.
"It's time to move on and give other people the opportunity to serve," said Hinson, vice-chairwoman of the Ethics Committee and former chairwoman of the General Assembly Women's Caucus.
"I'm probably maxed out on the House level and need a new challenge. It's just that simple," she said. "District 92 has a wealth of people who are more than qualified to serve in this position."
Hinson, 58, has represented Goose Creek in the House for a decade. Her departure will leave just four Republican women in the House and just five in the entire Legislature.
"I'm going to miss her. The caucus is going to miss her and the state is going to miss her," said Rep. Annette Young, a Summerville Republican and former majority leader.
Hinson said her desire for a change prompted her to run for the Senate seat vacated by the April death of longtime Sen. Bill Mescher. She lost the primary to retired business executive Paul Campbell, who went on to win the special election.
Winning the Senate seat would have allowed her to serve a larger number of people, she said.
"When that didn't happen, my inner feeling of knowing I needed to do something different didn't change. I've got to go another direction. It's time," Hinson said. "In no way did the results of that Senate race make me want to leave the House."
House Majority Leader Jim Merrill said his caucus is losing one of its best conservatives. He also regrets losing a female leader.
"We have enough middle-class white males in the General Assembly. It's nice to have a female voice and opinion," he said. "At the same time, I respect her desire to move on to new challenges."
Hinson said she will miss the Legislature, which she called her extended family, but couldn't pass up the financial and career opportunity.
Hinson, who served eight years on the Berkeley County school board before her election to the House, has run unopposed since 2000, when she defeated her ex-husband in the primary.
Hinson married former state Rep. James Law in 2004. She has one son from her first marriage.

SC6's Black Friday Report.......Looking Good.
Easy People !! It's Just Shopping.
Well, it's the first day of the holiday seaon - good old Black Friday !! That day where even the most serene of us turns into a pushy lunatic..... I avoid Black Friday like the Black Plague - usually because I hate the crowds, but this year because I'm broke..... However, I did drive around town, and it looks like the local economy is doing pretty well.
There is the usual line to get to Magnolia Mall, but even the Florence Mall lot is pretty full. The only shopping I did was to Food Lion to get dog food. No line there. :) I like to do my shopping online, but I'm sure I'll take a trip or two to check for any deals. How is it where you are? Leave a comment...

What I am Thankful For.....
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection - to take stock in your life, and give thanks for all the good things. So, in that spirit, it's a good time for me to give appreciation for what I have......
I'm thankful I have a job again.
I'm thankful for my health.
I'm thankful for my family and the concern they had for me this year.
I'm thankful for having the home I always wanted.
I'm thankful that I have Rocket and Snickers, although I miss Snoop and Tigger sometimes.
I'm thankful for you guys that read and comment on my blog. I have a lot of fun doing this, but it would be nothing if you guys didn't make it a two-way discourse..
I'm especially thankful for Bobby for being a true friend and brother, for helping me when I needed it, for showing concern, and making sure that whatever decision I made was in my best interest.
The biggest difference and what I'm most thankful for is Ms. X.. Even though she has never been north of DC (which I will rectify) , and she may vote for Ron Paul because he's a .....uh - Libertarian. I love you with all my heart Princess, and the rest of you will someday see why I care about her so much.... ;)
Happy Turkey Day !

Happy Thanksgiving !!
I'm a bit tired from all the driving and work. I don't have much going on this holiday. Bobby's in Pa., Matt is in NY, an everyone else is too far away, so it's just me and Ben and Rocket. Drop a comment on how your day was - even if it was just football and a lot of eating !
Have a great Thanksgiving.........

My Letter From Yasser Arafat's Widow.
E-Mail: su_ar1@hotmail.com
Dear Intending partner,
This mail may not be surprising to you if you have been following current events in the international media with reference to the Middle East and Palestine in particular, I am Mrs. SUHA ARAFAT the wife of YASSER ARAFAT, the Palestinian Leader who died recently in Paris. Since his death and even prior to the announcement, I have been thrown into a state of antagonism, confusion, humiliation, frustration and hopelessness by the present leadership of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the new Prime Minister. I have even been subjected to physical and psychological torture. As a widow that is so traumatized, I have lost confidence with everybody in the country at the moment.
You must have heard over the media reports and the Internet on the discovery of some fund in my husband secret bank account and companies and the allegations of some huge sums of money deposited by my husband in my name of which I have refuses to disclose or give up to the corrupt Palestine Government. In fact the total sum allegedly discovered by the Government so far is in the tune of about $6.5 Billion Dollars. And they are not relenting on their effort to make me poor for life.
As you know, hence my desire for a foreign assistance. You can visit the broadcast below for better understanding of what I am talking about; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3479937.stm
I have deposited the sum of 20 million dollars with a private security firm abroad whose name is withheld for now until we open communication. I shall be grateful if you could receive this fund into your bank account for safe keeping and any Investment opportunity.
This arrangement is known to you and my personal Attorney Dr. Jon Bax [Esq.]. He might be dealing with you directly for security reasons as the case may be. In view of the above, if you are willing to assist for our mutual benefits, we will have to negotiate on your Percentage share of the $20,000,000 that will be kept in your position for a while and invested in your name for my trust pending when my only Daughter will come off age and take full responsibility of her Family Estate/inheritance.
Please note that this is a golden opportunity that comes once in life time and more so, if you are honest, I am going to entrust more funds in your care as this is one of the legacy we keep for our children. In case you don't accept please do not let me out to the security and international media as I am giving you this information in total trust and confidence I will greatly appreciate if you accept my proposal in good faith.
Yours sincerely,Mrs. Suha Arafat
I Finally Have a PAYING Job....But Not in Florence..
Yep, thanks to some good old housecleaning at Butler Jeep-Dodge, I'll have a new job Monday. Yeah, I'm going back to writing service again. Hey, it's what I know, and I've made a pretty good living at it. At least I can pay my bills again........
Hopefully, now that I'm armed with some new ammunition to avoid getting mad at work, I can last longer than a week or two. Now, in case you didn't know, Butler is in Beaufort - about 2 1/2 hours from Florence. So, I'll be gone all week, and back in Flotown on the weekends. For some of you, that is good, for others, bad.
Now as far as my other activities..... Vice Chair of the Florence GOP - out. RED - out. Saturday football - in.... I would have preferred to not have bothered my brother in Hilton Head, or to commute 45 minutes each way, but the money is much better than the zero I've made the past two months. Thanks to everyone who helped me get along during my days of want and woe.........
Love,
Mike..

SC6 Announces It's 'Adopt a Bottle of Jack Daniel's' Program..
RED Rolls On, But Without Me on the Board...
After taking on Wal-Mart for 5 years, Responsible Economic Development , or RED, had a crucial meeting last night. Now that the battle was over, should the group continue on, or was it time to close down the tent. The decision to keep on keeping on was made, but I will not be with them.
After 4 years on the Board, a couple other, more qualified and motivated people were found to take my spot. I was always the right wing member of this generally liberal group, but there was a decision I needed to make - politics or RED. No tough choice there...
Like this blog, being on RED and running for office got in the way of each other. RED was viewed as a Che Guevara-type rebel outfit, which pissed off people in the GOP, and I got the feeling that some people in RED felt I did it only for my resume. Whatever.
I suppose I could have asked to stay on, and that room would have been made for me, but they already had nine members on board, who needs ten? So, I told them not to worry about adding me on the board. Done. I wish RED the best, and if they need me to explain the politics of development, i'll be glad to.

Another Debate, Another Panderfest....
Uh, what was i going to ask??
The questions came from the attendees, but most of them kept getting stuck in the middle of the question. Next time , write down your questions, and give the candidates time to answer them.
Wolf, Stop Cutting Them Off.
I'm not sure how long the candidates got, but it seemed like less than a minute. The audience was aloud to cheer, so the candidates hardly had any time to fully answer the questions with any detail. Give em 90 seconds, or don't allow cheering.
Iraq Is to Blame for Everything.
Barack Obama was asked how to fix Social Security. His first comment ? Get out of Iraq. None of them even mentioned fixing the poor return on investment - a major cause. Illegal immigration? Iraq is to blame. C'mon folks, let's focus on the real problems here.
Pander Watch II.
An Arab-American asked why he gets checked at airports so much. Duh... But all the candidates blamed America, not "hey buddy, shit is gonna happen". A Mexican guy aksed about immigration, and Chris Dodd panders by speaking Spanish to him. Beautiful .... A little less time kissing butt, and more time defending what is right.
We're 60 days away from our primaries, and we still haven't gotten down to talking in detail about the issues, and being truthful about why we do things.

Here's a Nice, Relaxing View for Ya ...
Mike Reino Loses 'Sexiest Man Alive" to Matt Damon.... This Is Bulls**t !!
This Is Sexier Than Me?? Okay, Maybe it Is..........
People Magazine had their annual 'Sexiest Man Alive' edition , and Matt Damon was their selection. Somehow, I did not make the list. I really don't know the criteria, but a late-30's graying man with the longest eyelashes ever should have made it somewhere on the list !!
Next year, I'm going to demand that People Magazine make it a write-in campaign, then we'll jam their system like Ron Paul does on all those debate surveys !! Either that, or I drop 20 pounds and dye my hair...

Sorry About the Lack of Posts This Week...
What Would You Give Up Your Right to Vote For ??
NYU Journalism School Survey Finds Voting Rights Are Not Important...
What would you permanently give up your right to vote for? Well, you might be surprised by this survey given at NYU.....
50% of those surveyed would do it for a million dollars
66% would do it for a year's paid tuition
20% would do it for an IPOD Touch.....whatever that is.
Honestly, the only one I would do it for is the million dollars, because with a million bucks, you can easily buy the influence worth much more than a single vote could get. In the real world, money is worth more than a vote. Agree or disagree? What would you give up your vote for? A car? A date with Brooke Burke?
Here you are, Moye.
My Miller High Life Question Gets Answered...
I forgot about this one...... Matt asked if i wanted a beer, and a cold one sounded good, and guess what I got? A Miller High Life !! HA !! It turns out the beers were a leftover from Matt's girlfriend visiting last week. So, apparently, SOMEONE is drinking the stuff - I stand corrected.
And to answer the other question - no, Matt never eats at home.

Day 3 In Hilton Head: Matt Gets a Guest on His Motorcycle...
Nothing real exciting today....... More scuffing and prep-sol work again. I did get to work with a DA (dual action) sander, which is a power sander. It does make the job a lot easier. It did get interesting at closing time. Matt was going to pull his Harley into the shop for the night, when he saw a snake coiled up by the rear tire.....
Now, being a Yankee boy ( Matt's only been here for three months), he figured it was okay to check it out. Nope... It turned out the snake was a copperhead, so the four of us had to coax the poisonous reptile back into the bushes........
As far as the exploration of Hilton Head's food, we went to Matt's favorite joint, Carrabba's. I haven't been there before, and it was good. I had the Mezzaluna, along with house salad and about 50 slices of dipping bread !! It's okay , I'm working my ass off..........
See ya tomorrow!

Riding Roughshod Over All the Other Blogs, SC6 Hits Post Number 700
Time Again for Saturday's Picks.....
We're down to crunch time folks !! I got both right last week, which puts me at 10-3 this year. After all the noise about Carolina contending for a conference championship, Clemson has quietly put themselves in the drivers seat for one. But, can they pull it off?? Moye sure hopes so. Can Carolina end their current 3-game skid? Ms. X is no doubt hoping it does. Bobby doesn't give a damn either way....
Clemson vs. Wake Forest.
Wake Forest was in the same position as Clemson is now - win out , and the title is in reach. But they lost a heartbreaker to Virginia, 17-16. How do most teams react when the championship is gone? Ask Carolina. The Tigers have begun to hit on all cylinders, but playing Duke will do that to you. Wake will try to stay in it, but it's in Death Valley, and the Tigers know what needs to be done. No looking past the Deacs and onto BC. Clemson 31-17.
Carolina vs. Florida.
November swoons.... Sounds familiar to Carolina fans. That time of year when dreams of titles turn into Copper Bowl realities... There is a magic number in this game - 30. Florida is 6-0 when scoring over 30 points, 0-3 under thirty. Their defense isn't what it was last year, but the offense with a healthy Tim Tebow is too much. This will be a track meet, and the Gamecocks simply don't have the legs to keep up. Florida 42-24.

When Number One and 1 1/2 Won't Let Number Two Do Their Job..
shit crap poop #2 dump number one poo feces defecate #1 drop the kids off at the pool drydock the fudge barge excrement piss shitting turd
Number Two, as defined in the Urban Dictionary.
I got a phone call tonight from a local GOP buddy. He asked me why Monday's meeting was canceled. "What are you talking about?" was my reply, since I had heard nothing about it either. As Vice-Chair, I would usually be one of the first to know if and why a meeting would be canceled. Wait , i forgot......... This is the Florence GOP, only two people count.
You see, in most counties, if the chair can't make the meeting, the job to oversee it falls down to the Vice-Chair, unfortunately being me. He handles the meeting, makes the announcements, asks about new business/old business, then adjouns the meeting. A very tough gig.......
But like I said, this is Flotown, and if our Chair and Exec. Comm, who happen to be married to one another, can't make it, we don't meet. As the Church lady would say, "how Conveeeeeeeeneint". Hey, maybe I'm wrong, but I thought this was a group that exists on it's own, not some kinda Neo-Chinese Gang of Two..... I'm a bit pissed right now, but if I'm wrong I'll apologize, but I don't think I'm wrong..... Does anyone else have this problem, because I went to 15 counties, and no one else works this way......
.
Florence Voters Turn Down $125 Million Bond Referendum..
Florence County School District 1 voters killed a $125 Million bond referendum on yesterday's ballot. Most people didn't even know it was being voted on - I know I didn't. It was similar to he $377 Million road tax that was passed last year. The main difference, and the main reason it was killed, was that FCSD1 didn't go out and push it like the supporters of the road tax.
FCSD1 seemed to just throw the bill on the ballot, and assume that voters would pass it. Surprise!! It lost. While too many of our schools use trailers, most of the schools are in workable condition, or would be better served by repairing, not replacing the school. And it's not like the School Board doesn' have the money to fix the needed repairs. They have over $30 Million in extra cash as we speak - refer to a post from Aug 06 - so they can keep this money for repairs, if invested properly. They are also the only School District that has it's own Foundation. The School Foundation has also raised millions for FCSD1 too.
If you want to talk about subpar schools and facilities, go next door to FCSD4. However, the School Foundation wouldn't dare give money to them. Nice.....
Good roads, good schools - they all attract poeple and businesses, but sometimes you can't have it all at once. My advice is to wait until the road tax is done, then we can buy some new schools with the exposed brick and stucco, and fancy green glass. Right now, I'd take a great teacher in an old school than subpar teachers in a new school.
.
Sanford Puts the Screws to Chellis....
No Doubt Who's Butt Mark would like to Stick His Thumb In......
Anyone get a love letter from Mark Sanford today? I did, and I couldn't help but notice the message this time. Usually, it's a request to call Sen. Leatherman or Rep. Cooper - his usual enemies. This time, he has a new target - New Treasurer Converse Chellis. .....
Yep , it seems that Sanford has the same problem that he had with Grady Patterson last year - he keeps blocking Sanford on his Budget and Control Board votes. It's another case of careful what you wish for. I know Sanford didn't wish for Chellis, but he sure isn't happy with him.
We all know Leatherman and Cooper will not vote with Sanford on anything, so that leaves him with only one option - pressuring Chellis. To quote Sanford, "This is exactly why it is so critical that you get involved and tell your elected officials that this kind of decision-making is not what you sent them here to do. If you live in the Charleston area, I’d ask you talk to Converse Chellis who holds the key third vote on the Budget and Control Board and to date has been voting against me and Richard Eckstrom on taxpayer issues like this."
Mark is asking you to stop Chellis in his driveway while he picks up his P&C in the morning, or in the Sonic drive-thru as he gets his morning breakfast burrito. Chellis helped override Sanford and Richard Eckstrom's veto of raising the state agency heads pay up to 20% - of which Chellis was a recipient.
So , it looks like we are back to pre-2006..... Sanford has no power, and he keeps getting overriden by lesser people. Such is the South Carolina state government. My guess is if this keeps up, Sanford won't wait for Giuliani to name him his VP choice - he'll ask for it..
.
