Those Bastard Republicans, AKA Who's Yo Daddy?

Can We Have a Leader Please, Sir ???
A recent Rasmussen Reports survey confirmed what we all knew already - the Republican party has no clear leader right now. In fact, 68% of Republicans surveyed agreed that the GOP has no Number One right now. Only 5% considered John McCain to be the leader of the party. The same goes with GOP Chair Michael Steele, while Rush Limbaugh got 2%, and Sarah Palin got 1%. Guess what? They're right, and right now, who cares?
Granted, in 2012, the party needs to have a strong candidate, but two months after Barack Obama's inauguration is not the time to worry about who's goin gto take him on. Four years ago, it was pretty safe to say that the Democrats were pretty leaderless as well. John Kerry wasn't exactly the face of the party after he left, was he?
I wouldn't say that the GOP is in shambles, but much like a Phoenix coming out of the ashes, there will be new faces to lead the party, and they just seem to occur naturally. Somewhere out there, is a fiscally conservative person out there, who can give the Republican message in a clear way that everyone can understand. No, it's not me. He/she can't hang out at the Trophy Club. Some people look down on that stuff..
Want to know another funny statistic? In the same survey, only 66% of Democrats consider Barack Obama the leader of the Democratic Party. Seems obvious to me, but maybe you'd think that they consider Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid to be their leader. Nope. Pelosi got 4%, Reid didn't even register. A whole 26% of Democrats said either their party has no clear leader, or they weren't sure who was in charge... WTF ????? P-Luv, can you explain that one?
If you're President , you're The Man, right? Either there are some Super Liberal or Blue Dog Dems that feel Obama doesn't represent them, or they think the Democratic leadership is the happy, equal coalition, where everyone works as a team with the same goals in mind. Yeah, I had to stop while I typed it to laugh....
So, it's OK that the GOP hasn't already decided who our candidate will be in four years already. Obama wasn't on the radar in 2005 either. He/She is out there...

Crikey! Callie the Calico Cat's Caught In a Couch !

If You Don't Think Cats Are Stupid, Read This, and Become Enlightened..
You get what you pay for... And when you buy a $27 couch, you don't get much - or you get something you don't expect. Vickie Mendenhall of Spokane, Washington found that out real fast.. After picking up a couch at a local thrift store, she kept hearing a constant meowing sound in her home, after days of this going on, her boyfriend was sitting on the couch, and something moved underneath him.
What was it? A nine-year old calico cat named Callie was stuck inside the couch. How did she get inside the couch? Because she's a stupid cat, that's why.. She climbed inside a hole, and didn't bother to get out when her owner donated the couch to a local thrift store. duh.....
But, who was the owner? Well, it took a couple of days , but after the media got a hold of the story, the real owner was found. Callie is back home, probably laying under a lamp, like Snickers is as I write this......Cats are more screwed up than I am - they're afraid of things that aren't even there, they hide for weeks on end, but God help if the litter box isn't immaculate...
Like the bumper stciker says... I LOVE CATS - DEAD ONES.

Breaking News: Lindsay Lohan Is On the Lamb !

Is Lindsay Locked In My Closet ? I'm Not Tellin'........

Big news today.. An arrest warrant has been issued for actress/singer/diva/trainwreck Lindsay Lohan today. It seems to be related to a probation violation stemming from her 2007 DUI and coke fueled car accident. What does that mean? She skipped a meeting to check in with her P.O...

Whatever it is, the local cops in L.A. are looking for our little redheaded vixen. So, if Lindsay is hiding out at your house, or if she suddenly shows up at your doorstep, we advise you to call the Po-Po immediately - then call Inside Edition, and don't accept less than $50k for the pictures and story....

Rule of Thumb: Don't Drink ANYTHING Blue ...

It's Pretty, But If You're In The Car Biz, You Know What It Looks Like - And So Do a Bunch of Kids in Arkansas..

Let me make a point here. I can be a bit of a smartass, but I'm not picking on little kids getting sick. It's more of a criticism of the stupidity of people, and how we eat and drink stuff because it's pretty...

I'll say this. I never drink blue stuff. I had a Blue Hawaiian once in college, and a Midori Melonball once, which is green. But it's safe to say that the colors I drink are pretty much clear or brown. And for good reason...

Lots of people run little daycare places out of their homes, and they're not always the most qualified - or smartest people on the planet. Ten parents found that out on Thursday. One of the employees was serving what he/she thought was Blue Kool Aid to the kids, except it wasn't Kool Aid - it was automotive wiper fluid... And you don't drink wiper fluid, because it usually has ammonia and other toxic substances in it.

Ten kids ended up going to emergency room, but luckily, they only drank about one ounce each before realizing the weren't downing Island Paradise, Blue Kool or whatever the hell they call it to take you away to the tropics in your mind. idiots..

Like guns, Kool Aid or wiper fluid doesn't kill people - Ted Nugent does. They're harmless, unless they're misused by retards. Seriously, how do you misread a wiper fluid container for a pitcher of Kool Aid? It's things like this that make me glad I don't have kids - I'd be freaking out 24/7 of what my kid is exposed to at a day care. Yeah, yeah - most day care facilities are fine, but it's a parent's job to worry, and with good cause.

Precinct Reorganization: Smooth Sailing Today

No, This Sign Wasn't Outside S. Florence High, But It Should Have.

Okay, I know there are a lot people anxiously awaiting my report on what happened today in the first round of Florence's reorganization. So, enjoy as I tread lightly over today's happenings at South Florence High School. If you were hoping for a blow-by-blow account of a Battle Royal, I'm sorry to disappoint you - it was very quiet and pretty friendly.

No, I didn't bring my camera today. Everyone there is probably paranoid enough with me as it is, so taking pictures realy would have freaked people out. I left it home, but I did have my picture taken with a guy in an elephant costume, while he was talking trash at me. There are few things worse than getting downed by a mascot, but it was all in good fun.

First, the ugly - as in the ugly weather. Yeah, it was pretty cold. Making matters worse, they forgot to unlock the doors to get in, so we didn't get into the building 'til about 9:20. Once that was over, it went pretty smoothly, except for me. I'll get back to that.

The attendance was much better than it was a couple years ago. I estimated about 100 attendees, about doubel from what I remember in 2007. Two of the candidates for SCGOP Chair were represented today, with candidate and Saprtanburg Chair Rick Beltram there, and George Ramsey representing the Kevin Hall team. Both were courteous to not take up a lot of time. I spoke with Rick for a few minutes beforehand, and like the saying goes, few people are as great as you think, and most are not as bad as you think either. He didn't go into why we should vote for him today, but kept the message on building a strong team at the local level.

By this time, we were broken into our precincts. Savannah Grove was next to us, and I thought it was nice to see Philip Lowe and Licia Stone, who ran against Lowe in the 2006 Primary, sitting at the same table. For as big a precinct as I live in is, it was a bit disappointing to see only four total people attend. We were alloted 15 delegate positions, so my work is cut out to get the eleven spots filled by next week. But I had my own little problem at first...

Uhhh, I wasn't on the Precinct Roll Sheet. Why? I was in Hilton Head on Primary Day, so I wasn't on the list. No big deal, I had my card. The funny part was at the end, when it came time for precinct positions. The other attendees didn't want to have a position, so everything fell onto my lap today. As far as the GOP is concerned, I am South Florence 1. So now, it's all my fault...

Okay, now time for the dirt. After all, the purpose of today was to register people to serve as delegates fo next month's County Convention, where they will choose a new Chairman, Executive Committeeperson and Vice-Chair. Judging by the unofficial numbers of what I saw there, the current leadership has their work cut out for themselves. I'd estimate the supporters of the Pee Dee Republicans slate were 2-1 or more.

There aren't just a bunch of newcomers here, either. Long-standing GOP activists, including some who hold office, are involved or supporting the slate. Today was the first time I heard someone who supports the current leadership mention that they not run for re-election. Personally, I never was afraid to lose - good thing, because I was excellent at it - but that's completely up to them. Its not totally lost yet. I have 11 open delegate spots in my precinct alone, so there are a lot of open spots left to fill. Would I tell the people I recruit how to vote? Hell no.

All that aside, it was pretty encouraging to see all of these people interested in moving the party forward work together today. Granted, the real fun will be in 4 weeks. If you are interested in attending the County Convention, it's not too late. They will be registering people next Saturday, March 21st at 900AM at Horne's Restaurant on S. Irby Street. Hopefully, they'll be serving Meatloaf that day....

It's Probably Too Late, But Here's The Info. On The Precinct Reorganization...

Get Ready For Round One Tomorrow ....

On the off chance that you're reading this between 10PM Friday and 830AM Saturday, you're a Republican, and you didn't know that the Precinct Reorganization was Saturday, we have big news for you. The Precinct Reorganization is Saturday at 900AM !!!!

There will be two meetings: one in Florence and one in Pamplico. The purpose of these meetings will be to select precinct delegates for the countywide elections in April, and members of the executive committee - at least I'm pretty sure. Here are the precincts that go to Pamplico at the City Fire Station:

Pamplico #1 and #2

Mill Branch

Hannah

Scranton

Coward #1 and #2

Friendfield

Johnsonville

Kingsburg-Stone

Prospect

Vox

If you go to any other voting precinct, you will go to South Florence High School at 900AM. Make sure you bring your voter ID card. To attend the reorganization, it's free, but all delegates at the county convention will be paying $25 next month. I got it!

What Would He Have Gotten If He Threw BOTH Shoes ?

Iraqi Shoe Tosser Gets 3 Years... And No Trip To Crawford, TX !!
Munthadar al-Zeidi, the Iraqi reporter who was arrested for tossing his shoe at Pesident Bush during his last visit to the country last fall, was convicted of assaulting a foreign leader, and was immediately decapitated, chopped up, and his entrails were made into asphalt and poured on the new George W. Bush overpass in downtown Baghdad...
Okay, he actually got three years in prison. It was a pretty bad scene at his trial today, and I think we all saw this backlash coming. His family went all nuts in court, and now the guy is considered a hero and a martyr of sorts - for tossing his shoe at someone. Sometimes it's better to let an idiot get off the hook for his stupidity. Instead, this guy is a star. I'll make a wild prediction here, and you'll think I'm nuts - but I'm serious. This guy will be Prime Minister of Iraq within ten years. Check back here in 2019, so I can say I told you so...
.

There's Just Something About Chicks & Pianos..

Yeah, I Like Sarah McLachlan ....... Sue Me !!

Call me silly, call me sissy, call me worse - but there's just something about a girl playing a piano and singing that turns me on. I'm no Emo fairy guitar player either. I rock, and I rock hard, but I love chicks and pianos.

It doesn't matter - it started with Tori Amos (probably the red hair), then Sarah McLachlan, and it keeps up all the way to Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, and even chicks with acoustics like Lisa Loeb and Colbie Caillat. OK, I am a sissy...Hey, at least I never went to Lillith Fair.....

Where did this all start? I thought about it today, and I think it goes back to college and Laura Mackenzie. She was my first young adult crush when we worked together at the beach. At a party, we all got a bit drunk, and she played and sang 'The Rainbow Connection' on piano. I think she's a doctor now...

Why am I telling you guys this? Because I can listen to them all day long at work - or anything else that I want. No offense to Ed Palmer, but radio sucks. Satellite radio is better, but you have no control over the programming, and you can't take it into work. So, what's a musicophile supposed to do? Pandora !!

What is Pandora? It's an internet radio station that you can get online - for free. Just Google Pandora, and it takes you to the website. From there, you make your own radio station simply by choosing artists, songs or albums. Each channel then plays artists from the same genre, and SAVES the station PERMANENTLY for you. You come back the next day, all of your stations are there. You don't like an artist they picked, skip it - or delete it for good.

Now at work, i get to listen to all the music I want ! I have my Faith No More channel, and channels for Korn, Bon Jovi, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, Nirvana..... and even my Chicks & Pianos channel! If you have a computer at work - and your bosses are cool with it - Pandora Radio kicks ass !!

You Can't Kill Colonel Sanders ...

The Colonel Rises From the Dead In Osaka, Japan.

Hmmm... Right after wondering what non-political subject I should address today, i went online - and there it was. You can't get much more non-political than Colonel Sanders, especially when he comes back to Earth after 24 years under the murky waters of the Osaka River....

Okay, let's backtrack a bit. It's 1985, the local baseball team in Osaka, Japan has just lost a big game, and one player is to blame. The angry fans take to the streets, and start going crazy. Standing there, a lonely statue of Colonel Sanders is in front of the local KFC - and he looks EXACTLY like the player !! The fans knock the Colonel over, carry him to the Osaka River, and toss him in! And there he stayed for 24 years...

Thanks to GPS, The Colonel's remains were found and, just like The Hunley, were raised and cleaned up. Just to show how badass Colonel Sanders is, he was still standing up! Granted, he had lost his glasses - and his arms and hands! But aside from that, he was ready to kick ass and sell chicken again. Welcome Home, Colonel - now get back to work!

Where's The Love ?

No need to look out the window - there is DEFINITELY a Full Moon out this week. Normally, you can tell at work, but it's been surprisingly quiet and friendly there. Politically, there is no doubt that a Full Moon is out. Everyone is fighting with everyone. Rush Limbaugh is fighting with Michael Steele. Will Folks is fighting with Jeff Sewell. Jeff is fighting with Earl. The Pee Dee Republicans and the Florence GOP are at odds - and I think I just saw two nuns going at it a few minutes ago too......
I'm sure I've ticked off a few people here and there this week, but I'm don't have any problems with anyone. I'm a lover, not a fighter.. So, what does one do when trouble seems to encircle your world? You stay positive.
We've got some tough times ahead in the party for the next few weeks. Lots of head butting to come. So, i think the best thing I can do now is to try to keep things positive for the most part. I'll try to pepper in some of those posts that don't involve politics to keep things interestingly fun. Personally, I'm going to try and keep more in touch with my friends, and those people I care about. That's the important part of life, right?

It Wasn't Pretty Tonight ...

At Least These Guys Have Protective Gear ....

I imagine there are a few people anxiously awaiting my commentary after tonight's Florence County GOP meeting. There were about 50 people there tonight, which is a pretty good crowd, although I thought there might be more attending. It started out OK, but at it went along, it got testier and testier... and then it got ugly. By the end, I was wondering if my blog post from last week had taken the exact opposite effect than I had hoped. We'll see over the next few day before the precinct reorganization.

Like I said last week, my point was to get the two disagreeing sides to meet and hash out the differences, and to find a decent compromise. That still could be possible, but there are some hurt feelings here. I'm not going into detail, because I'm not trying to assess blame , or to make anyone look bad. I'll just put it this way: bad comments have been made, feelings have been hurt, and retaliatory comments were made back. Did I wish a little discretion had been used? oh yeah. Is this all my fault? Not all, although I can't predict how people react to things. I think this was going to happen anyway, but I'll take the hit for pushing it along. Still, better here than at the conventions .

The challenge of politics is being able to really dissect a situation , and take the criticism with a clear eye. Are there ways the current leadership could make it's members feel more like part of the team? Sure. Do the Pee Dee Republicans have a couple rogue members who need to criticize without offending people who have worked for the GOP longer than they've been alive? Sure. Am i a big mouth, flamethrowing A-hole who doesn't know when to keep his trap shut, in the fear of causing irreparable harm? Absolutely...

That being said, where do we go from here? First off, it's time to take a step back and suck in a deep, long breath of fresh air. A couple apologies for the things said that might have been better left unsaid would be a good start. Here's how i picture it....

A: "hey, I'm sorry for hurting your feelings"

B: "No problem, i didn't hear you anyway. I apologize for what I said too."

A: " Water off a duck's back, my friend in the GOP! Hey, how about those crazy Democrats?"....

B: "Yeah.... Let's get back to work !!!"

Sure, it's a bit pipedreamish, but I'll settle for a handshake. The important part is that a little introspection be used on each side, and that the Big Picture is not lost in the pettyness. Both sides care a lot, and they are both dedicated. Whatever way this plays out, we're all in the same sandbox, so we need to stop throwing the dirt in each other's eyes. That old lady tonight was right on two points: We need to work together - and there are 12 zero's in a trillion!

So, how can we be Peaceful Warriors in the Republican Cause? I think it can be best described here by Private Joker. It applies pretty well - just substitute the last line with "In every Voter, there is a Republican, waiting to come out." Peace in Flotown, Yo!

Ahhhhhh.... Nature !

After 7 Years, That Button Could Be On The President's Desk... KABOOM !

Burps, farts, sex - all of those fantastic functions of nature that make each of us and other species unique. While one poot or burp may seem insignificant, if you add them up, they could lead to the destruction of Planet Earth itself !!!! Maybe not. But you never know.. How was all of this information discovered? Probably from studies paid for with government earmarks..

I had this forwarded by a co-worker. Here are a few curious facts about Nature for your perusal - a perfect little bit of brainless fodder for a Sunday..

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.

A cockroach will survive without it's head for 9 days until it starves to death.

Banging your head against a wall will burn 150 calories an hour.

The male Praying Mantis cannot copulate while it's head is still attached. The female initiates sex by tearing the male's head off..

A flea can jump 350 times it's body length, which is the equivalent of a human jumping the length of 7 football fields.

A catfish has over 27000 taste buds.

Lions often mate over 50 times a day.

Butterflies taste with their feet.

The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.

Right handed people live 9 years longer than left handed people.

Elephants are the only animal than cannot jump

Cat urine glows under a blacklight.

An ostrich's eye is bigger than it's brain.

Starfish have no brains.

Polar bears are naturally left handed.

Humans and dolphin are the only animals that have sex for pleasure.

Who Needs The BBB ? I've Got a Blog.

The Heat Pump: It's Complicated, Which Lets The Repairman Rob You.

Gee, i don't know how I got the reputation as a flamethrower. I just try to look out for you guys, but sometimes I go too far. I've had friends not always trust me, for fear of whatever we discussed being on this blog. Maybe they're a bit justified, and I think i have learned a lesson. Maybe this post will show that...

Some of you are already aware of what I'll be talking about here, while this will be new to some of you. The events I'll be talking about here have gone on over the past three weeks , so this is not a kneejerk reaction - I've waited until everything played itself out. Over the past three months, I've noticed the electric bill slowly getting worse and worse on my house on Millridge. I finally noticed that the thermostat reading about eight degrees higher than the actual air temp. Clearly, something is wrong when a $65 a month electric bill hits $175 a month.

I called the HVAC guy that I spent $1300 with last July for a new compressor, and he was more than happy to check it out. He calls me later, telling me that the condenser is bad, and that he'll need to replace the compressor with it - even though it's still under warranty, and it's going to be $1800. Red Flag. Then he calls me again, and tells me the upstairs unit is leaking as well, so I'd be better off just replacing the entire system, and he'll cut me a deal and do it for $3000. After all, the heat pump is all of 12 years old. Gee, thanks bud. He just admitted to me that he didn't even inspect the entire system before trying to sell me a heat pump.

Now, when i bought that compressor last year, I was up against the wall. I was 175 miles away, it was 95 degrees, and I had a pissed off tenant. I ws in no such rush this time. I asked the guy to fax me an estimate of what I 'needed'. It never came. By the way, I never got a copy of the repair bill from last July either. This jerkoff apparently didn't know what I do for a living either. Though no exactly the same, heat pumps and automobile AC/Heat systems are very similar - condensers and compressors are separate components, and they rarely fail together. It was obvious that this guy's business was slow, and he was trying to make a week's income off my ass. Nice try....

Here is the biggest issue. A week earlier, i had just paid off every person that I borrowed money from in late 2007 when I was unemployed. I was looking forward to a period of saving money, and enjoying life again like I used to. Then this... I swore that I had a giant black cloud over my head. But, like I said, it wasn't an emergency. The nice part of having friends who are mechanics is that they know other handy guys. One of my techs had a buddy who just got laid off from his HVAC gig, so he checked it out twice, and found that the heat wasn't working well due to the freon being gone from a leaking Schrader Valve (just like a car). He replcaed the valve, recharged the freon, and whammo !! Hot air blows once again, and the air temp is the same as the setting again. Thanks to Chase Hardee for his honesty and skill in fixing the system. Total cost ? $200 - I was so relieved, I gave him $250.....

And our other guy? Like I said, I learned to not down other people here. Let's just say that his business' name is the same as out State Nickname. All I know is if I tried to pull the same shit on my customers, i'd be fired and have a lot of explaining to do. The advice I have for you is this: if you don't understand the repairs, and it sounds like BS, get a second opinion.

Here's the Latest On The Florence GOP Fight...

Uhhhhh.... It's Pretty Quiet Out There This Week.
Yeah, I know you guys are counting on me to keep you up with the latest poop, but I gotta be honest. I haven't heard a peep out of anyone since Monday. It shouldn't be a surprise though. Some people view what i did last week as being a blabbermouth, and that maybe I can't be trusted with what's going on. But, I'm sure I did the right thing. There are times when you have to get stuff out in the open, and times to be quieter...
Right now is the quieter time, although I suspect it won't last for long at all... Monday night is the next Florence GOP meeting at Horne's, then next Saturday is the precinct reorganization - the first step in where Florence County will go. Personally, it wouldn't surprise me if I was blocked from even being a precinct delegate. Too bad... It'd be a shame if all my talent were wasted because they don't want to hold the tiger by the tail....We'll see.
I'll try to make a couple calls on both sides tomorrow, and if there is anything newsworthy, you'll hear it here. If there is anything that needs to be waited on while differences get resolved, you'll know that too. Patience.

Iowa's Oinkin' Bad Smell Earmark - The Other White Meat, Or A Necessary Evil ?

Babe, You And Your Pals Stink !! LA-LA LA-LA !!!

With all of the discussion this year concerning earmarks being put into legislation, every bill is being scrutinized. Alhtough Barack Obama promised that evry earmark would be be run over with a fine tooth comb, the fact is that he really can't do much about it, and goofy things end up in a bill. This year's economic stimulus bill is no different.. We give you The Stinky Swine Earmark !

Yes, included in the economic stimulus bill is an earmark to study for pig odor research in Iowa. I've never been on a hog farm, but a roommate of mine at ECU had one, and he says there is little on this planet that smells so bad..

Why does Pig Shit and slop smell especially bad? Because it's a mixture of Hydrogen Sulfide (aka Rotten Eggs), and Ammonia (aka Cat Piss). Mix 'em all up, and you've got a poo bomb that carries miles into the air, stinking up everything in it's path. It's especially bad in Iowa, where there are 3 million people, but 20 million hogs !! That's a lot of pork, baby!

How bad is it in some towns? In Lorimor, Iowa it has been so bad that residents have gone a week without leaving their homes. They had a town-wide garage sale that NO ONE went to, due to the stank..

So, how do researchers plan to get the stink out? They're not sure yet, but they have had a little success by using ultraviolet light to remove odor and by planting trees and vegetation to keep the smell from drifting.. Personally, i think they should develop a giant torch that detonates all the gas in the air, then POOF !! No more gas. Yeah, millions may die, but at least it won't stink.

Still, there is a big fight in Congress over this earmark and others, like: tattoo removal for East LA Gangs, Polynesian Canoe Rides in Hawaii, Termite research in New Orleans and Grape Genetics study in New York State. But, for supporters of Iowa's White Meat, like Senator Tom Harkin, he has one piece of advice before you complain - come to Iowa, and take a whiff !!

Is That A Baby Bump, Or 73 Bags Of Smack ?

More signs of a down economy. Drugs. People turn to them, do them, and some start selling them. Now we all know, there is nothing more inventive and devious than a drug addict or seller. The cops in Dunleith , Delaware found that out...
Cops there pulled over a car under suspicion of having an illegal window tint, and upon checking the car, they found six bags of Heroin, a loaded pistol and a stun gun. They took him and a pregnant female passenger to prison, and upon checking the woman, they found 73 more bags of the Yam-Yam, inside her waistband. That's one big waistband !
Now, I'm not sure what took the cops so long to find the smack on her, but I suppose they didn't think she'd be involved in dealing . Wrong..Next time, check under that skirt first !

Jim Clyburn Adds Another Notch On His Hollywood Buddy Belt ..

Ahhh, Those Eyes, Those Washboard Abs - Jim Loves 'Em !!

Word is, after today, Jim Clyburn will now have a Brad Pitt poster on the wall of his office, and that 'Fight Club' and 'Seven Years in Tibet' will continously play in the waiting room.

What happened to turn Clyburn into such a Pitt fan? Simple - Pitt showed up at Capitol Hill. This doubles Jim's star experience from one to two, when he got to meet Bono. Heck, i've met as many stars as Jim - if you consider Debbie Gibson and Joe Walsh stars...

And what was Brad Pitt doing in Washington today? He was in town to promote a housing program for New Orleans that uses eco-friendly materials - uh, and other green stuff. Why he was in Congress I don't understand. FEMA has all the money for rebuilding New Orleans, and they haven't spent it. Just bother them, but then he wouldn't have gotten to check out Nancy Pelosi's sweet, 123 year old ass .....

Need proof of two guys who have NOTHING in common , except the need to be on TV, and red-hot love for Angelina Jolie? Here is the clip , thanks to TheHill.com

Barbie : Public Enemy Number One ??

Yea ! A Barbie Doll That Look Like Marilyn Manson !!!
For over 50 years, the Barbie Doll has infuriated people who view it as sexist, and those who think that Barbie is too straight laced - and all the while, selling millions of dolls along the way.... Such is a middle of the road toy. Some view you as extreme, others as namby pamby...
From the kooky side of the right, is a bill submitted by State Delegate Jeff Eldridge (D) of West Virginia. What does Jeffy want to do to the doll? How about BANNING Barbie Dolls???!! yep. Ban them.... Why? The same old excuse - Barbie dolls put too much focus on women's aesthetics, and not enough on their intelligence. Blah, blah, blah.....
"I just hate the image that we give to our kids that if you're beautiful, you're beautiful and you don't have to be smart." Eldridge said. "I knew a lot of people were going to joke about it and poke fun at me. I couldn't get anyone to sign onto the bill, b ut I'm still going to introduce it." Yeah Jeff, have a good time talking over the laughter while you try to get this stupid bill passed - or any other bill you care about. You just became "The Barbie Doll Bill" guy, and every other legislator will beg you to NOT support any bill they have.
And how has Mattel, the maker of the Barbie Doll, decided to overcome their bad image? By introducing Tattoo Barbie. I shit you not.... A Barbie Doll that comes with a temporary tattoo kit. That should keep those people who accuse Barbie of not being cool at bay....

Click It Or Ticket Gone Amok In Flotown...

Highway Patrolman Goes On Ticket Rampage on West Palmetto Street

Now, i don't want to look like I'm ragging on our local law enforcement... After all, I was the guy who created the Kenney Boone - Chuck Norris blog posts. But, every once in a while, we see a guy in a uniform go a bit overboard with the ticket writing. Yesterday was one of those times....

From my new desk, I can see everythign happening on West Palmetto St. in Florence. On Monday between 12PM and 5PM, I saw the same SCHP guy ticket no less than five people for driving without a seat belt in the parking lot of the dealership. Two of them were employees here.

Now, this was just from the 200 foot area I could see from the driveway. How mnay other people got pulled ove rand ticketed that day? Yes, he can hand out these tickets, and no, you don't need cause to stop someone for no seatbelt anymore. But DAMN, that's a lot of pulling over...

I doubt that the ticket mania was done to raise cash for a strapped state agency. More likely, the SCHP decided that more people need to be buckled in, so they went and scared the crap out of everyone on Florence's west side. It worked, at least for today. I rarely wear my belt, but I had it on today - and I was in freakin' Charlotte !!!

Hopefully, Buttercup and Pee Pee didn't get cited..

Another Reason Why Old People Suck....

Okay, I take it back - Old People don't suck. But, there are aspects of being old that , uh, is a bit stinky for us younger people. They know every stupid thing and bad habit about you - and they never forget it! Take this example during a trial in Mississippi...
During the trial, a young prosecuting attorney called an elderly woman to the stand as his first witness. He approached her on the stand, and asked "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?". "Of course I know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a little boy, and frankly, you've been a huge disappointment to me. You Lie, you cheat on your wife, and you maniplulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot, but you haven't the brains to realize that you'll be nothing more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, i know you."
The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what to do next, he asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense Attorney?" She replied again "Why yes, i've know Mr. Bradley since he was a young man too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. he can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and he has one of the worst law practices in the state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three difference women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him."
The defense attorney almost died. At this point, the judge calls both attorneys to the bench, and in a quiet voice, says "If either of you two idiots asks her if she knows me, I send both of you to the electric chair !!".
There, that should lighten things up a bit. Have a Nice Day! :)

Wall Street Learns Some Chinese - Pho Ling Dao !!

The Dow Drops Again....

Get it? Pho Ling Dao - Falling Dow? Yeah, I know.... Somewhere, I hear Tom Petty's 'Free Falling' over and over in the background as I'm writing this. The Dow Jones industrial Average has dropped below 7000 for the first time in 11 years - and this is good news?

In many ways no. The economy still sucks right now, companies are laying off more still, and no one knows for sure what lays ahead in the future. But this really isn't anything different than what we've been talking about for a while now.
So, the big question is 'How Low Will It Go?" This is only a guess, but I'll say that the Dow will go down to about 5700 in the next month or so, then slowly, surely.... There is one bit of good news - people are actually saving once again. Where just a year, we saved an average of 1%, we are now up to 5% - a whopping 400% increase! And once we save , eventually, we will get to spend again...
Right now though, Wall Street looks pretty crappy.. It reminds me of something like this:

At Least She's Multitasking ...

Breastfeeding, And That's It ??!!!

Time for another kooky SC6 story - we've ruffled enough feathers for this week.. Cops in Ohio charged a woman with child endangerment of her toddler after an incident in her car. What was she doing ? Driving while talking on the cell phone - and breastfeeding - all at the same time....

Now, the cops were tipped off by a passing motorist, and they didn't arrest her for breastfeeding in public. The problem was the kid was in her lap as she drove and was on the phone. My reply to all this? Who should be surprised?

I don't know what changes in women once they have kids, but they can carry two kids, all of the kid's crap, a pocketbook, today's mail, and still have a free hand to sign the paperwork when I write them up at the dealership - blindfolded! Of course, it was a stupid thing to do, but parent's often lose their better senses when it comes to taking care of their kids, right?

Is The Florence Cty. GOP About to Be Hijacked?

Is a 'Coup DeVille' Coming For The Local GOP Leadership ?
Rarely do I have much interesting to talk about when it comes to the local GOP doings, and I don't often break news, so this blog post may be one of my most serious and important ones ever. There is something nasty going on in the days leading to the March 14th Florence County Republican Convention...A coup appears to be in the works.
Here is what I can tell you from my experience. I joined a group called Pee Dee Republicans on Facebook this month. It sounded great, because the local party has not taken advantage of things like the internet and other media outlets to organize and get it's message out. At the last local meeting, we decided to release the phone bank list to get as many people to attend as possible. So far, we're all good here. Then it gets strange...
I got that followup call to attend the convention from someone who obviously didn't know who I was. To review it, I am the last Florence County GOP Vice -Chair, I am the current 6th Congressional Dsitrict Vice-Chair, and I'm a two time candidate for County and Federal offices. Yeah, I'll be at the convention lady, and I'll be leading... The call was odd, because they repeated kept askign me to come and support my county councilman, Ken Ard. Ken is not my councilman, he represents the Pamplico area, and he is not running for anything, so what was this call about? I soon found out.
While I haven't spoken directly to anyone involved, there appears to be a serious fracture in the local party. While this is okay in some counties where they are the overwhelming majority party, in Florence County, this is a fatl mistake, and it needs to be stopped before it starts.
For those of you who don't have any idea of our local party, there are two factions: the organized party that does the legwork, and the financial arm that pays the bills and raises the cash. These two sides never connect.
From what I can tell, the money men were very ticked off at the party for City Council candidate Glynn Willis losing his bid last November. Word is that the local GOP didn't put signs up sufficiently enough for Willis, although Willis handled most of that on is own. As far I know, Willis had enough signs up , and as my Democratic buddy P-Luv will attest, Willis got caught in a once in a generation political buzzsaw known as Barack Obama. To give you an idea of how well Willis did, Ed Robinson and Billy D. Williams were elected with about 300 votes - Willis had over 1500. I spoke to Willis after the election, and he has no regrets, and he doesn't blame anyone for his loss. Such is the chance you take when you run for a city-wide council seat. Someday, he will be a councilman.
But Ard and his friends don't see it that way, because it appears there is a movement to oust Chariman Tommy Phillips, executive Committeperson Shelby Phillips and Treasurer Tommy Grimes. I once spoke to Ard in 2006 when I was running to join him on County Council, and he talked to me about having inherited a big wad of cash upon his father passing, and that he now had the ability to shape things politically as he saw fit. I took that as an offer to assist my campaign, but that didn't happen. This appears to be the opening salvo.
I have received calls from people inside the party, and other calls have supposedly been made that can affect other people's occupations. My first piece of advice concerning that is this: as a guy who HAS lost his job because of his involvement in politics, cut the shit out. None of this is worth it....
Now, while it may sound like I'm 100% standing behind the Phillips', and all I want to do is squash this coup, that isn't at all what I'm saying. I understand the frustration. I was Vice-Chair for a year or so, and I was never let inside the loop or given any responsibility whatsoever. I'm not pleased that all of the decisions for the Florence County GOP are made on the kitchen table at a house on Pineland Drive. The party is a collective of thousands of people, and those voices need a platform, and to be heard.
So, like most problems, each side is a little right, and a little wrong. So, before we all gather on the 14th and start getting ugly with each other, what do we do? First off, we need to get Ard and the Phillips' together and ask Ard what he wants. If he expects to smoothly show up with his friends and take over, that won't happen. We have an excellent opportunity here in Florence. With Barack Obama's election, the alarm has gone off to many Republicans here who have been asleep to get out and stop watching things happen. The LAST thing we need is infighting.
Now, Ard cannot run for Chairman or any position, since he holds public office. Therefore, if he is planning on overthrowing the Phillips', he must have someone in mind. What we need to know is 'Who did you have in mind?'. Now, the chance is pretty good that the person Ard has in mind is not qualified, or has any knowledge of who is in the party. Part of the fault is that person's , part of it is Tommy and Shelby's. They have given no opportunity to train an eventual replacement for both of them, and that is not good for the party.
So, what is the solution? I'll suggest one. The Vice-Chair position has been open since I vacated it last year. Let Ard make his suggestion, and let him/her learn the ropes and pay his dues as Vice-Chair under the Phillips'. They in turn will prepare him/her for the Chairmanship, get to know the other county leaders, and allow him/her involvement in the decisionmaking process. I have one suggestion - make sure the person is someone who has vision and a future, not old party deadwood that has an axe to grind with the Phillips'.
Now, I know, this compromise makes way too much sense for it to work. This is the Pee Dee, and we'd rather burn the whole house down and fight over the ashes than fix the fireplace. Maybe they'd rather duke it out and leave the whole party bloodied and battered. I'm sure Ard and his supporters see this as a necessary step, but they're wrong. The might disagree, but we need to avoid the Nuclear Option here - we need each other.

Rookies... They're So Cute When They Take Office.

Freshman California Rep. Wants to Solve State Budget Crisis By Legalizing Marijuana...... HAHAHAHA !!!!!

No matter what the level, rookie legislators are always funny. They come in like Jimmy Stewart in 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington', all filled iwth these grandiose ideas of how they're gonna REALLY, FINALLY change things.... Then they realize that NO ONE listens to the new kid. Take Tom Ammiano for instance....

Ammiano, a newcomer to the California State Legislature from San Francisco, has entered bill AB390 to the intinerary for the House this year. What is it? Well, Ammiano sees it as a cure-all for Cali's ills - by legalizing and taxing marijuana. Ahhh, those silly kids !!

AB 390 would allow Californians over the age of 21 to grow , transport, sell, possess ans consume - aka Smoke - all the Mary Jane they want, without breaking the current Federal law the outlaws Pot. Now, we've had lots of discussions about legalizing pot from the personal freedoms aspect, and we'll kind of skip that. However, Ammiano's bill tries to attack it from another point - the state's huge budget deficit. My guess is that Ammiano is not a numbers guy, because his bill just doesn't add up.

Tie for the numbers. It's estimated that pot in California is a $13.8 billion a year industry. Ammiano suggests that they charge a $50 per ounce charge on it. An average ounce bag goes for between $250 for dirt weed, to $500 for higher quality. Of course you can pay much more for top shelf enginereed stuff like G-12. Hey, this is stuff I've heard - I don't smoke, i just hear things. I swear.....

Anywhere, the $50 tax, even if sold exclusively at the $250 price, would generate about $2.7 billion a year. That is assuming that everyone who sells it actually is willing to turn over 20% of his/her revenue to California. That is one hell of an assumption. Why pay the state when you can keep it? While that all sounds like a lot of cash, keep one thought in mind - Cali's annual budget deficit is about $44 BILLION .... That pot cash is a literal spit in the ocean.

While it sounds nice, Ammiano's plan is not a cure-all, there are just too many parts that are pipedreamish. So, my advice to my pot smoking buddies is to not make any plans to move West just yet, and stay here in South Carolina. I'd miss you anyway !!

They Can Steal His Logo, But Barack Obama Still Isn't Gonna Drink Pepsi..

Where Have We Seen That Logo Before ???
Time to play the Chicken and The Egg game.. After the election, Pepsi changed the logo on their soda cans - and instantly, I flet that they were ripping off Barack Obama's campaign logo. Not everyone agrees with me, but apparently some do.
For over two decades now, Pepsi has been aligning itself as the hip cola - 'The Choice of a New Generation', right? Now, i prefer Pepsi to Coke - I think Coke is a bit too syrupy. But, there has been no secrecy in that Pepsi has tried to co-opt Barack Obama's success, and make it look like that Pepsi is Obama's drink. Well, it isn't working, and Team Obama seems to be leading the charge against Pepsi.
In a Time Magazine article, Michael Scherer unofficially went around the White House and it's staff, and did some snooping around. It sounds like he mostly went dumpster diving and trash can observing. Such is the life of an Investigative Journalist. From his report, there seems to be one overwhelming winner - Diet Coke.
Yep, cans of Coke, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi are rarely seen around the White House. That 'Just One Calorie' goodness is the choice of this generation apparently. Among the big Diet Coke drinkers are Budget Director Peter Orszag, Economic Advisor Larry Summers, and Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. While Obama himself has been relatively non-committal,he is known to be a big fan of Honest Tea. Enjoy that diabetes ten years from now, Mr. President...
So, why Diet Coke? Well, for the obvious reason - Diet Pepsi kinda sucks. Diet Coke has some flavor to it, but Diet Pepsi tastes like you are biting on the can s you drink it. It has that metallic quality to it, and that's not a good thing. Personally, I think Coke Zero is the best tasting Diet Cola. No wonder those guys are suing...
So, is the Obama Administration doing undue harm to Pepsi in it's actions? Maybe, but fear not. I'm sure if Pepsi's sales drop from it, they'll get a bailout too.....

Teenyboppers, Your Favorite Boy Is Back !

That Young Guy In Tinted Windows Looks Very Familiar...

As you know by now, we here at SC6 know how to rock. We try to keep up with new things going on the music business, but with so such crap coming out lately , it's hard to pay attention. However, every once in a while, something pops up that really gets out attention...

Meet tinted windows, the newest supergroup to come out. Sort of. The band is made up of Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, Smashing Pumpkin guitarist James Iha, Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger, and another guy. The other guy is the one that really caught our attention. The last member is none other than Taylor Hanson...

Yep. THAT Taylor Hanson, as in "MMMM Bop" teen heartthob 90's band Hanson. Go in the dusty closet, and pull out those old Tiger Beat mags, 'cause Taylor Hanson is BACK, baby !!! If you were a teenager in the late 90's, your sister or the girl next door was probably ga-ga over Taylor. I was a bit surprised yesterday when I found this and Rick referred to Taylor Hanson as "the Hanson Kid that has talent." Who knew...

Yes, Taylor certainly has grown up. I don't even remember the other two brothers names, but I'm pretty sure they were named Moe and Curly. I haven't listened to any new songs of theirs, so let's listen together. To show how Taylor has grown up, we'll compare. First, the old Taylor:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tfSqjc_WRY

and , the new Taylor:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6psmPQaueE0

You know, I was kinda wondering what these four guys were doing together, but it really does work pretty well. I hear Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne all over this song, and Iha fits in well too. It's a nice little toe-tapper.... I still think Audioslave and Velvet Revolver were better supergroups, but I like what thye've done here...
