SC6 Fake News: Sixth District Files Missing Persons Report on It's Congressman ...

Authorities in both Santee and Columbia have confirmed that a pair of missing person's reports have been filed in their respective towns to locate Sixth District Congressman and House Majority Whip James Clyburn. Aside from a recent clip of him at a 3rd District Town Hall meeting - where he appeared dazed and incoherent - Clyburn has not been seen in public since Congress broke for it's August recess three weeks ago.

A SLED official, who asked not to be identified for fear of being audited on his taxes as retribution, confirmed that an APB is out to locate The Whipper. "At first, we thought he was just laying to avoid all the mess with this Health Care Bill, but when he showed up in the Upstate, all confused and angry looking, we knew something was rotten in Denmark - and Olar, and Orangeburg."

Clearly, after his performance Upstate, where he fell asleep multiple times, and was obviously agitated with having to listen to questions of South Carolinians - not even from his own district - state officials are worried. It is the fact that Clyburn appears to have forgotten what district he represents that has people worried. " How the heck he even got there, we still don't know.... By now, he could be babbling like an idiot anywhere from Anderson to Beaufort. We need to get him home, talking to his own constituents", the anonymous official stated.

Meanwhile, voters in his 'home' of Florence, Sumter , Manning and Orangeburg are looking for their Congressman, in the hopes of also getting an opportunity to discuss issues facing their district. If you have seen Clyburn, SLED asks that you contact the State Headquarters in Columbia, so they can evaluate him, give him some milk and cookies, and bring back home to the district that he has apparently forgotten that he represents....

CBS Gives Obama a Helping Hand

Katie Couric to the Rescue !!!!!
Are you guys ready for some Earth-shattering information? Well, here we go.... The mainstream media has a bias towards the Democrats. There you go. How I don't get paid to give you guys this insight is still beyond me.....
Of course, we all know this. If you want to get a decent side of the right's opinion, you watch Fox News, if you want the left side, you watch the other networks. Most of the time, they do it in a cloudy manner - it's a bit subliminal. Then there are days like yesterday. If you have any doubt that Barack Obama's Health Care bill is in trouble, you need look no further than the hack job Katie Couric had to start yesterday's show......
For about seven minutes, all they talked about was health care... First, they went to a free health care expo in Los Angeles, where thousands came for help with different ailments - many of them vision and dental related, which the new Health Care bill does not address. Then, they discussed End of Life care. They managed to identify it as where the most expense is used - no duh. But, they also managed to find a couple doctors who said that hospitals unnecessarily spend billions in the last year of a patients life every year. Now, I have no doubt that bills do get run up at the end of a patient's life, but it all seemed more an infomercial than a news broadcast straight out of the Obama Team's playbook.
Here is the part I'd like you to focus on a bit. The first clip was in California - the state that mirrors what Obama is trying to emulate the most. They are broke by $44 Billion this year, laying off thousands of state employees becuase they can't pay for all of the government bureaucracy that they've created. The clip is actually more of an indictment of how it doesn't work , more than how it would work - but they don't show it to you in that light.....
The media has a lot of influence - just like a blog, only about 100 million times greater. Some of you might think Katie Couric is just the talking head, but she is also the News Director, just like Walter Cronkite was. Therefore, you can cast much of the blame on her - or credit, if you wish. I'm afraid that impartiality in the news is dead, but the solace you can take in it is that, as far as Health Care goes, Team Obama has a serious problem on their hands - and even their buddies in the MSM may not fix it for them....

SC6 Remembers Les Paul ...

Over the years, I have often blamed myself for certain famous people passing away - the latest was John Hughes dying a day after I watched 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off ' last week. However, I was incorrect on one of them. I mistakenly thought that Les Paul had passed away shortly after I purchased my first guitar named after him - which I just sold about a month or so ago.
I was wrong then - he was still around, but like all people, if you wait around long enough, everyone dies. Unfortunately, Les Paul passed away today at the ripe old age of 94. For those of you who are musically challenged, the Les Paul guitar is the quintessential rock and roll axe. In fact, Les Paul invented the first solid body electric guitar. He also developed another revolutionary recording technique - multitracking. That is, being able to record multiple tracks by the same musician at different times, and linking them together. Before that, you had to put a slew of different guys in a room at the same time, and record them together. What a mess....
Paul was instrumental (sorry, bad pun) in the technological aspects, but he was an excellent guitarist as well, with dozens of Top ten singles in the 50's and 60's. In rock, there are two guitars most people identify with it - the Fender Stratocaster, and the Gibson Les Paul. If you wanted the fat, tony sound, you got a Les Paul. Now, Les Paul and Leo Fender are both in Rock n Roll Heaven, discussing the finer points of guitarmaking. I'm headed to band practice tonight, and thanks to Les Paul, I WILL ROCK !!!

Yes, We Take Requests , Even for BRUUUUUCE !

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few days. I was in Charleston for a job interview, and the Charleston GOP Executive Board Meeting, then I hightailed it down to Hilton Head Island to work with my brother at his Body Shop. It was pretty cool this time. Instead of namby-pamby stuff like taping and scuffing for the paint booth, I got to tear crap apart and use cool power tools like grinders and seam sealers. I'll be back in town Thursday, and by Friday, SC6 should be back to normal.....
It's been a while since I'd been to Chucktown, but things are still the same - they do love to argue there! I still think if they get so argumentative because they don't eat at the meetings. Anyway, i was a bit surprised to run into Lt. Governor candidate Ken Ard there. Ken is a big fan of the blog, but he's an even bigger Bruce Springsteen fan. He told me that he once spent a week following Bruce on tour from show to show. That's pretty dedicated.
Well, Ken asked me to do a post on Bruce for him. No, I don't think Bruce agrees with myslef or Ken politically, but he has written some excellent songs, so I'm going to play a clip for Ken Ard - or any other statewide candidate for that matter. It's a bit of a cliche song, but it just flat out kicks ass, and it's probably the best song he ever wrote - and an appropriate theme for any candidate.....

Happy Birthday To The Best Fundraiser In SC !

Happy 22nd Birthday, Sunny !!!

She's probably going to kill me for posting this, but such is the price you pay for knowing me.... It's very late - in fact, I'm just getting this in under the wire. But today is the ???th birthday for Sunny Philips, whose ability to raise money for Republican politicians is only eclipse by her proclivity to reproduce ....

I think she's still stuck on four kids, but I haven't seen her since the convention, so who knows?? If you see her, tell her Happy Birthday - yesterday! Sorry I didn't have more... I went through Chucktown and Hilton Head, trying to find gainful employment. I'll try to get something online tomorrow for you....

August 9th - Taking the Good With The Bad

It's August 9th - one of those days that kind of cross between the personal and the political. There are those dates that everyone knows - Christmas, New Years, etc. But we all have those days where everything seems to happen. In my house, today is one of those days....
Now, for those of you who have read this blog for a while, you know that my family has a track record for disasters and milestones occuring on the same day. I have the same birthday as OJ, my brother has the exact same birthdate as Princess Di, Dad was born on September 11th, and my parents wedding is on the same day as he Kennedy Assassination. Oh, and one of my nieces was born on Waco, Oklahoma City and Columbine - all ahead of time. It's not like we picked these dates - they're just weird coincidences.
As far as today goes, there are three events that occured today: Nixon's resignation, The Manson Murders , and the bomb being dropped on Nagasaki. Not exactly a trio of happy events, but it is also my sister-in-law Cindy's and niece (her daughter) Emily's birthdays. Yeah, it's a bit odd for mom and daughter to have birthdays on the same day, but it happens. I'll let you decide if it'a another sign of my family being born under a black cloud , or if it adds a little happiness to what might ordinarily be an unhappy day....
Happy Birthday Cindy and Emily !

Tired of Voting For The Republicans or Democrats? There Are Plenty of Goofy Alternatives Out There..

HeartQuake '08? Is It Political , Or a Party at Some Guy's House?

Even though our two party system has appeared to work for us for over 200 years, for some people , that isn't quite enough. Brad Warthen has proposed his Unparty for a little while now.. Then we also have other, smaller yet established parties - Libertarian, Liberal, Right to Life, Green and others. But despite all of these, somehow, there are citizens who still feel that they are not represented. According to TheHill.com and the Federal Election Commission, there are over ONE HUNDRED registered parties in the US. Some are legit, some ate single issues, some are mistakes, and some - we just have no idea. Here's a sample of some of the registered parties in the US....

All Day Breakfast Party - This party usually meets at the local IHOP, SONIC, or Denny's... Must love eggs..

Boston Tea Party - If this were the Boston Lager Party, I'd be there !!

Green - Rainbow Party - is this the official name of the Green Party? If so, it's easy to see why they dropped 'Rainbow'..... they broke up years ago, and Jeff Gordon sucks.

Hsing for Congress - TheHill.com put it best ..... The "AKA, the 'I filled out the Wrong Form' Party". Good organization there, guy! You'd fit in great in DC...

Poor People's Campaign - Guys, you already have a party - it's called the Democrats. Seriously, if the Dems are too conservative for you, you may need to move to Cuba or Venezuela...

Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico Party - Not to be confused with the Puerto Ricans for Puerto Vallarta Party. So much for single issue parties..

Rock the Boat Party - How much respect can you give a party named after a Hues Corporation song? I'm starting a 'She Bop Party' to push a woman's right to toy with herself. This just in - Rock the Vote is suing them....

Think Independently Party - Yes! Think Independently - like us! Isn't that a contradiction of terms? I picture 50 people in a room, endlessly arguing with themselves about what the logo should look like...

Term Limits for the United States Congress Party - OK, what about the War on Terrorism? Health Care? Abortion? The Budget Deficit? Whaddya mean, you don't care ????? That's it, Term Limits? Please, someone pass this bill, so these guys can get back to their normal lives..

Vote Here Party - These must be the traffic cops, or KGB of elections. Text 542542, and for 99 cents, we'll tell you where the poll booth is. Brilliant, though.. The name gives you no idea what these guys are for. Master stroke, ladies and gentlemen - how's that thing doing, anyway?

If none of these float your boat, there are plenty of others to join - Or, you can make up your own party. If you don't mind filing the FEC paperwork, I'm sure they wouldn't mind it a bit......

Is Bill Clinton More Popular Than Jesus ?

After North Korea, Maybe.... But There Is Some Evidence Before That
Thanks for checking in. With a title like that one, how could you not? Has SC6 gone crazy? Of course not. But, when there's some news out there that is just too unbeliveable to.... well, to believe, we're going to let you know what's up.
Yes, it's Sunday. Yes, what I'm talking about may be considered blasphemy, but we think you'll give it a pass.... Now, what exactly are we discussing here? Not much. I read an article in TheHill.com yesterday, and it gave us more proof that Bill Clinton is indeed more popular than Jesus - at least in one respect. The 2008 Presidential Election.
You see, not every vote was cast for Barack Obama or John McCain. Lots of people cast protest votes, and some write in joke candidates. The Federal Election Commission actually has to keep track of these joke votes, and on Thursday, they finally released the final totals for ALL the candidates. Bill beat Jesus nearly 4-1,by a score of 19-5. Santa Claus got 9 votes. Before he gets too cocky, he should know that there were plenty of guys who fared better than Jesus did too: Mickey Mouse got 11, Donald Duck 9, Joe Plumber 5, Vermin Supreme got 43 votes, and someone named Mr. Jockey blew them all away with 809......
Now, should Jesus be upset that he lost so badly to these guys? Of course not - he's overqualified for the job. He's got other things to work on.... On the other hand, it doesn't exactly give Bill Clinton the ability to get a Beatles Complex either. Maybe just a little trash talk though...

How To Get Your Mickey D's, And Really Piss Off PETA At the Same Time..

McDonald's Unleashes The Unhappy Meal .....

Tired of eating a meal that just doesn't offend animal rights activists enough? Well, worry no more ...... Mickey D's has just intoduced their new Chicken McCruelty meal - the first fast food meal to earn PETA's Black Shroud of Death Award.

You have to give McDonald's credit on this one - they really went out of their way to be especially cruel to the animals. Broken Bones, scalding the chickens alive.... Heck, they even made Ronald McDonald a dead ringer for Pennywise from 'IT'... It's the meal that would cause PETA, World Wildlife Fund, and your local ASPCA to plant a bomb under your house. Of course , it doesn't exist..... Yet. Like Ronald says, 'THEY ALL FLOAT !!!!!!"

Don't Expect Any Town Hall Meetings in the Pee Dee, Folks..

It Appears Our Congressmen Are Out of Commission This Month... Droopy Dog's Got a Bad Paw, and This Is Closest You'll Get to Seeing Whipper ....
I know, I know..... You're all upset. You were all prepared for it. You had your speech all set, with every talking point written in perfect detail to let your outrage be known. You probably even practiced saying 'Mr. Clyburn, F**k You and the Democrats' over and over to get that correct pitch to let it hit home. Alas, that train will not be coming into the station......
Everyone's been asking if Congressmen John Spratt and Jim Clyburn, two of the more powerful members of the Democratic Caucus, will be having any Town Hall meetings in their respective districts to discuss the new Health Care Plan . The answer is a big, fat, flat out nope... Spratt is on the disabled list, and Jim Clyburn? Well.......
The word is that John Spratt underwent foot surgery yesterday. How serious it was, I have no idea. Was it elective? Was it planned? Hey, don't ask me... I guess it had been scheduled for a while, and the Health Care plan just kinda snuck up on it. They definitely could use Spratt's ability to spin dog poop into Egyptian Cotton by endlesslessly droning on the periphery of the topic, then summarizing, "You see, it's all very complicated... But trust us." But, he is on the DL this month, and that brings us to Number Two....
We're pretty sure that after 17 years, you've noticed that Jim Clyburn is not a policy wonk. He prefers to play to your emotions and scare the crap out of you, rather than use numbers and make sense. He's never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Forget about a trillion dollars in spending.... this one kid has no Health Care Coverage !!!!!!
I talked yesterday about the difference between a good 5 minute speaker, and a good 30 minute speaker. Jim Clyburn is a good 5 minute speaker. Get into the nuts and bolts of an issue - aside from Civil Rights - and his knowledge is as thick as the side of playing card. I helped expose that a bit back in 2005, when he and Spratt went on the Town Hall tour on Social Security. He did know jack about that , and he doesn't know jack about Health Care. All he wants is for everyone to get it, no matter what the cost. It's pie in the sky, and even Congress knows the financials haven't been worked out....
Clyburn will never go on a Town Hall like this without having someone to hold his hand, because he doesn't have the chops to handle it. Social Security was nothing like this. These aren't trained, paid protestors out on a field trip. The Republican Party didn't have to recruit people to show up. These are regular citizens, outraged and scared... Jim likes to play to softball with his fan club, and get a few minutes with the TV stations - then scamper back to his lakehouse, or to DC.
I have one suggestion, and it's not a good one, but I'll make it anyway. We do know one place he will be in our area, and when. If you want to, make a little sign, greet him as he pulls in, and let him know how you feel. That's easy enough, and it's legal - I think.. Maybe he'll change his mind, and have a Town Hall. RIIIIIIIIGHT! Or, maybe you'll see him in line at the Krispy Kreme.....

Steven Tyler's 'Living On the Edge' Of the Stage - And Off It !

Aerosmith's Front Man Falls Off Stage, Is Hospitalized ...
It ain't easy being a Rock Star, and it ain't easy being 61... It REALLY isn't easy being a 61 year old rock star.... Hence, Steven Tyler found that out - along with the fact that Newton's Law is still in effect - when he fell off the stage during a show in South Dakota Wednesday Night.
No, he didn't break a hip.... He was doing one of his usual spinning moves, when it looks like he fell and went headfirst off the stage and into the crowd. He was airlifted toa nearby hospital (he IS Steven Tyler after all.), and was treated for minor head, neck and shoulder injuries. He should be fine, although he is lucky that it happened now, because if this occurred after Barack Obama's Health Care Plan kicked in, he might have been euthanized..... Here is the TMZ clip of Tyler's fall....

For a Little While, That Car WAS Da' Bomb ..

Time for some goofy local news that probably didn't make the cut in the rest of South Carolina. There was a bit of a scare in North Florence today. It seems that a car headed for the crusher at the Bush Recycling facility ( a Cash for Clunker car , maybe?) had an extra little present inside of it - seven sticks of Dynamite..
Okay, so it didn't turn out to be TNT - it was actually seven pieces of wood, wrapped in wax paper. This was found out after the Florence County Sheriff's Office had to send the Bomb Squad to dismantle it. The annoying part was that this was going on the same time as there was a manhunt for a man who shot a convenience store clerk in Timmonsville, so the FCSO was stretched a bit thin there for a while. The good news that we don't have Al-Qaeda or any other terrorists in Florence County as far as we can tell - although I still don't trust that guy who works at Ken's.....

SC6 Remembers John Hughes...

There is no doubt, I am a child of the 80's. Pretty much, whatever decade you were in High School and College, that is your decade. Each decade has it's own Pop Culture - the music, the clothes (Neon? Yuck!) and the movies.... John Hughes was THE director of the 80's. He produced some of the most important and funniest films of the 80's..... Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, National Lampoon's Vacation, Weird Science, and those Home Alone movies, but we'll forgive him for bringing Macaulay Culkin into the world....

Hughes was a master of the teen flick, where he made films from the adolescent point of view, spoken in their language. He often used actors in multiple movies ( John Candy was in 8 Hughes films), and made stars out of Molly Ringwald, Candy, Anthony Michael Hall and Culkin. He also made everyone tyr to find the fictional Shermer, Illinois on a map. But in the 90's , Candy passed away, and the genre seemed to run it's course. Hughes walked away from the movie business in 1994, and never returned.

The thought of what kind of film Hughes could make ended today, as he passed away from a heart attack while visiting family in New York City at age 59. But, his mark was left on Hollywood, and the generation of people my age. In tribute, we have a clip of the Top 15 scenes form one of Hughes' greatest creations - John Bender.

The Final Word on SoSo's Confirmation...

Sonia Sotomayor's Got Her Robe ......

Earlier today, in no surprise, Judge Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed to an Associate Judge position on the Supreme Court of the United States by a mostly partisan vote of 68-31. It's official - we lost. This was about as obvious a result as a Republican running in the 6th Congressional District, and the numbers are almost exactly the same. The irony drips....

The best way to look at the whole SoSo nomination to keep yourself from pounding your head against a brick wall uselessly, is to look at the process, rather than the result... We Republicans really were backed into a corner. Barack Obama's selection of Sotomayor, while I wouldn't call it a stroke of genius, was exceptionally smart politcally... Hmm, with 45 million Hispanics up for grabs in 2012, do you fight her tooth and nail, and have it resonate for decades with the fastest growing voting block in the US, or do you let it slide? We had no choice......

Republican Senators did all that they really could without making us look like the bad guys again. They questioned, they lightly grilled, sauteed and peppered SoSo like a fine piece of Monkfish - but not to the point of hurting the party and the process. They exposed her possible shortcomings, enough to put light on her future decisions as an Associate Justice. That's all you can do. Especially when you are up against 60 Democrats that would have OK'd her if she called whites 'No Good Crackers' - which she didn't, of course.

Like I said, the best way to look at it is to look at the process.. The fact is, though it's not perfect, the process works. It's part of the American system of government - the best and most fair system in the world. It's all over. We'll get our chance again....

SC6 Gets Away From the Laptop, Part I

Henry McMaster Hits Flotown, Here With County Chair Joe Griffin, and District Chair Tommy Grimes ...

Sorry for the lack of posts today, but today required me to perform a lot of the duties required of a District Vice-Chair. It ain't easy being Number Two..... This afternoon, we had Attorney General and Gubernatorial candidate Henry McMaster stop in Florence to meet with a lot of the local party bigwigs - and me. It was very informal, and the location played into it alot. We met up at ....... a Starbucks? Yep. I don't even drink coffee, so I got a $3.50 juice drink instead. :(

I've seen McMaster speak plenty of times, but this was the first time I saw him speak to a small audience. He was relatively quiet, which honestly, made it very hard to hear him over the occasional whirring of the coffee grinders and frappucino machines. It essentially was a meet and greet, to give us his outline of his campaign, and his staff. It's safe to say that of the candidates for Governor, McMaster probably does have the strongest team, and it will likely put him in a good position to get him all the way to the runoff that appears to be coming in this race....

Contrary to what many people think is McMaster's main goal, he says that the Economy is Job One. He listed all of the industries that South Carolina has to grow from, and where he thought we need to go from there. One point that he mentioned that I have not heard before was to move the Commerce Office under the Governor's Office, to create more autonomy and cohesion. Interesting, although the effect of that could be limited. Discuss please....

The Attorney General stayed for about 45 minutes before heading out to the next stop. No, it's wasn't an earthshaking, historic visit - but stops in Florence rarely are. But, he was here, so we were here too. If you're running for office, and you want some free press, let us know, and you'll be here too. This usually doesn't apply, but if our Congressmen decide to change their minds and have a Town Hall on Health Care, we'll gladly show up.....

.

SC6 Gets Away From the Laptop, Part II

Brent Nelsen Wow's 'Em In Sumter County......

And then, it was onto Sumter for the Monthly GOP Meeting. If there has been any good outcomes of Barack Obama and the Democrats' new and expensive programs, it's that it has definitely lit a fire under the butts of Republicans here. A couple years ago, you' be lucky to have 20 people at a meeting here. Well, on a Thursday night in mid-Summer, Sumter got 45 people to show.....

As usual, I played Rochester to Tommy Grimes' Jack Benny, but I did get to tell everyone that the 6th District Facebook page is up at last. Tonight though, the meeting belonged to Superintendent of Education candidate Brent Nelsen. He may have changed his mind, but it appears that Nelsen is more in his wheelhouse as a Sup. Ed. candidate than he was as a candidate for Governor - and the reaction was very positive.

Some candidates are great 5 minute candidates, but terrible 30 minute speakers. That is, as you dig into issues more deeply, they show thier lack of knowledge or interest, any they start to repeat the same lines over and over. Nelsen actually seemed to benefit from it. He got to show that he has taken time in getting to know each individual district(he referred to Johnsonville as Florence 5 - WOW !) . His outline fits in nicely with the party platform of trying to give students and families more options, without increasing expenditures significantly. Usually, I don't make suggestions, but I asked him instead of doing teacher evaluations from the top down, that they let the student evaluate them. The best motivator for a student is a great teacher, so why not find out who makes the students happy?

For a party that had no candidates just a week or so ago, it's safe to say that we have a pair of really good options, and if given the support they need, we will have a Republican as Superintendent of Education.... Here's a couple pics:

What do you do when you can't keep your eyes open for pictures? You wear sunglasses.. Braden Bunch does his best Corey Hart imitation...

And we have a Four Horsemen of the Political Apocalypse Quorum! Moye Graham in the House, Y'all.... Earl, where were ya?

6th District GOP Finally Gets on Facebook...

'So I Tell Him, Mr. Obama.... I Know Abe Lincoln, And You Are No Abe Lincoln'
After promising all Summer that they would put up a Facebook page, the 6th Congressional District GOP finally got the page online today. Obviously, this represents the laziness or stupidity of the leadership, especially the Vice-Chair, who was put in charge of it. That Vice-Chair, of course, is yours truly......
Well, after not finding the obvious signs on Facebook of how to do it, I went back to the manual I got at the Florence County GOP Tech Summit (Thanks, Dana!), and it was up in five minutes. Easy enough... When I ran for Congress in 2004, I had NO organized system to communicate with the specific people that I needed to. This will help out a lot. It will also be a direct way for Republicans in our area to tell us directly of events, meetings, and to give us advice/criticisms on assisting each of the 15 counties in the 6th District.
Most of you might have gotten the invitation from me already, but if not, just get on Facebook, and search "SC 6th District Republicans". Our apologies to anyone living in the 6th Senate or House Districts for stealing your group. You snooze, you lose...
Now, do I expect this to turn things around 180 degrees - like electing a new Congressman here? Uhh, no. But, to those that pick on us Facebooking, the fact is that last year, most of us were flying blind in October and November. We couldn't get signs. We couldn't even call each other. There was NO communication. That's over now. We're doing a better job of it through Facebook and other mediums. The work still needs to be done, but the organization is getting there.

'Dollar' Bill Jefferson Is Going to The Joint...

Bribeloc - Keeps the $90k In the Freezer Safe and Protected !

We here at SC6 say goodbye to former Congressman William Jefferson (D-La.). Jefferson was accused of taking bribes totalling $400,000 for steering business in Africa to certain American companies, which in case you didn't know IS illegal. Jefferson was best known for hiding $90,000 in cash in a Ziploc bag in his freezer. Feel free to insert your favorite 'Cold Cash' joke in the comments....

Jefferson contended that he was innocent, but it wasn't even close. He was convicted on 11 of 16 counts, and he now faces up to 185 years in jail. It's safe to say his political career is over, and perhaps his life on the outside as well. I'm sure that he'll be fine in jail - he'll just become some big guy's bitch, and things should take care of themselves.... Hey Bill, don't drop the soap, buddy..

Hey, Manson Family Members, Get Ready to Celebrate .... Squeaky's Finally Coming Home !

Squeaky Fromme's Coming Home ......Feel Safe Now?
More evidence that Barack Obama and the Democrats have made America less safe... Kidding. There apparently is a rule that says if you try to assassinate the President, you never get out of jail - unless it is Gerald Ford. Word today is that former Charles Manson follower and attempted Presidential assassin Lynette 'Squeaky' Fromme will be released from her jail cell in Texas on August 16th. Sarah Jane Moore, who also tried to kill Ford in 1975, was paroled last year. No doubt that her friends and family have been doing the 'Uncle Joey' from Back to the Future thing for the past 20 years now - you know, the 'Welcome Home' cake that gets wasted because he didn't make parole.
Fromme was convicted of trying to kill Ford back in 1975, while she was dressed as a nun, holding a .45 caliber pistol. Fromme forgot or purposefully left the chamber empty on the attempt, but was convicted anyway. If you think that this was just a one time case of foolishness by Fromme, think again. This lady is F'ed up six ways to Sunday....
She was in the Manson Family for about 5 years - not exactly a short term dalliance.. She then hooked up with the Aryan Brotherhood, and was or wasn't involved in the double homicide of a California couple. In 1975, she tried to meet Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, because 'something bad would happen to him'. Obviously, they blew her off. Then came her assassination attempt. Oh, we're not done yet.....
In 1979, she attacked a fellow inmate with the end of a claw hammer, and in 1987, she escaped from her prison in West Virginia in an attempt to meet up with Manson - 18 years after their last contact !! This lady is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs , people..... But hey, she's been good since then. The good news is that this gives John Hinckley, Mark David Chapman, Sirhan Sirhan - and maybe even Manson himself - hope that someday they'll be paroled too....

Is Eli Manning Worth $97.5 Million ?

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that NY Giants QB Eli Manning is set to sign a 6yr/$97.5 Million contratc extension. The $16.7 million per year average would make Eli the highest paid player in the NFL. Just like when Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb had their huge contracts, the question is being asked again ..... is Eli Manning deserving of the highest salary in football.
An easier question might be 'should Eli even be the highest paid player in his family?' His brother Peyton, long considered arguably the best QB in the game, only makes $14.3 million per year. Only... Geez, I'm getting a headache just typing 'million' over and over again! However, there are other things to be taken into account. Eli is entering the prime seasons of his career. He did seriously cut down on his interceptions last year. And he has a ring.... By the end, he may be worth that money, and maybe he'll be the best QB in football -but I doubt it.
Most of you know that I am a lifelong NY Giant fan. Eli Manning is like Phil Simms. He's a very good quarterback, but not near the best. His arm strength is suspect at times, and he is dependent on a good supporting cast. The Giants were a lot like my Fantasy Football team - through 11 weeks, they looked like worldbeaters. Then Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg, and they fell apart. Burress was the guy that stretched the defense, and helped out the running game. Burress and Amani Toomer are gone. In their place are Steve Smith, Domenik Hixon, Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden. None of these guys are Plaxico Burress.
Smith is the possession receiver. Hixon has good speed and height, but is inconsistent. Nicks and Barden are rookies, so don't expect much out of them this year. Maybe Nicks can be longball threat a couple times a game to stretch the D, and Smith and Hixon can become the 6-7 catches a game guys. That's their best hope. The Giants needed an All-Pro WR to replace Burress, but they got cheap, and are instead giving that money to Manning. It looks like the G-Men are following DC's lead, and spending money on something they already had, rather than what they needed....
Manning looked very lost without Burress at the end of last year, he has all training camp to find that guy he trusts, but he might no find him at all. $97.5 million is a lot of money, and when much is given, much is expected - especially in New York, baby...

Cash For Clunkers, Part II: Da Aftermath.... What Cars Are Being Traded In .

The Ford Exploder, Uh ... Explorer. By Far The Biggest Loser !!
'For Every Action, There Is an Equal and Opposite Reaction'..... Einstein. Actually, we're not 100% sure that it was Einstein who said that, and we're too lazy to confirm that, but it sure sounds like him. Yesterday, we gave you the numbers of which cars Americans were buying as part of the Cash For Clunkers program. It was pretty obvious that there was a serious Japanese slant towards the purchases. Today, we got the numbers for the Red-Headed Stepchildren. The Bastards. The cars that Americans were more than willing to get rid of - even at the expense of having payments for the next 36 to 72 months....
Perhaps just as important as what cars are being purchased, are what cars are going. That is, which cars have no future, which cars have poor value by consumers. If everyone was trading in their Toyota 4 Runner for a prius to save money on gas, maybe The Big Three would have nothing to worry about. Well, let's just say that Detroit has A LOT to be concerned about.......Here are the top trade-in's in the Cars For Clunkers so far....
1. Ford Explorer
2. Ford F-150
3. Chevy C1500 Pickup
4. Chevy Blazer
5. Jeep Grand Cherokee
6. Dodge Caravan
7. Ford Windstar
Now, you don't have to be Horatio Cain to deduct any conclusions from this one..... THEY'RE ALL AMERICAN CARS !!!!! In fact, six of the Top Ten cars traded in were different years of the Ford Explorer. Now, the not-so-bad news for Ford is that two of the ten cars being bought were the Ford Focus and Escape. This is the bright red flashing light to Ford exec's - IT'S TIME TO STOP MAKING EXPLORERS !!!!! Cut it down to the Escape, and a few Expeditions. Honda has been bitched at for years to make an SUV bigger than the Pilot for a decade, and smartly, they've resisted. Ford and GM aren't that smart. Dodge has no idea what they're doing - everything they make, including the Caliber, looks like a Jeep...... Hope these numbers change your thinking.
Clearly, there was a trend of consumers trading in their Big, American SUV's and vans in for smaller Japanese cars. Now, not everyone is doing this. Economist Reino is telling you right now, this spike in sales is temporary. As soon as this program ends, the American carmakers are in deep, deep doo-doo. OK, deep shit. Sales will plummet back to pre-C4C levels. It's kinda like in 'Jaws 2', when the shark attacked those two kids on the boat... The kid got back into the boat just enough to see over the side - then Jaws yanked him forever back underwater.
Lastly, if you own an Explorer, F-150 , Blazer or Caravan, the only advice I can give you is to hold onto it, and ride out the storm. Why? Because the market is now so flooded with gas guzzling SUV's that you probably just lost another $1000 in Blue Book Value. Supply and Demand, folks..... Supply and Demand. In hindsight, Cash For Clunkers isn't a failure on all aspects: some cars got sold, just the wrong ones. It was a gimmick, and we will pay for it in the end. We redistributed wealth even further from the US to Japan, and the net worth of a slew of Americans went down, both those who did and didn't buy a car....
The writing's on the wall people... The US will forever be a second-rate auto power from now on. Get used to it. This is how the marketplace works. Ford, GM and Chrysler need to get leaner and meaner, and Michigan, Ohio and Indiana need to find new employers. It ain't coming back.....

Straight Up, Paula Abdul Leaves American Idol

Hey Paula, It's The Next Finger That You Flip ...

Today, we were Knocked Out, as we officially heard that Paula Abdul is Blowing Kisses In the Wind to American Idol. Those Cold Hearted Snakes at American Idol weren't able to agree to a contract extension for Abdul. Abdul didn't blame the negotiations on her not returning, rather that she was dealign with an impacted colon. Personally, we don't believe that - a Rush, Rush of cash likely would have cleared that blockage right up.....

She will be missed at American Idol, her constant fighting with Simon Cowell were great, although it's obvious that Opposites Attract. Even though her Crazy Cool ways made her seem a bit unhinged at times, it's Just the Way That We Love Her, and she'll be Forever Our Girl....

What the post-American Idol world holds for Paula, only she knows... But there is the Promise of a New Day. However, Paula Abdul can rest assured that there will millions of fans saying they Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up, and maybe even a few guys asking Will You Marry Me.... OK, it's official - I'm out of Paula Abdul songs. DJ Scat Kat out !!

Bloggers Blogging About Other Bloggers Blogging, And Other Kooky Things..

I'm telling you, you I've been doing this for close to four years now, and sometimes, I swear I have no idea what pushes your buttons. I'll write what I think is a sharp, intelligent and informative piece of work - and it just dies. Then they're is last night... I write a total joke piece of FAKE NEWS about George Clooney's old character from 'ER' being named Obama's Health Care Czar, and it skyrockets to Number One overnight. It's like those mindless techno songs that takes three minutes to write, but it has a good beat, so it ends up going Platinum....
Now, time for a short commentary. I don't usually go around the blogsphere to read other bloggers blogs. I find that it keeps me from writing about what I wnat to , because they might have written about it already. Sure, there are a couple I read regularly - usually because they blog about different topics, or they see things from another viewpoint than mine.
But, I've been touring around the SC Blogosphere, and I've noticed a disturbing trend. There seems to be some bloggers who spend an inordiante amount of time posting about other bloggers - and not usually positively. In fact, there are one or two that seem to exclusively live off of bitching about other bloggers. Sure, a little bit of rivalry between blogs is good - I have one or two myself. But surely there is more to talk about than what a moron this guy or that guy is. Every day, I can find two or three subjects to blog about. Maybe some of them are childish, and I have no problem with taking pot shots at politicians. But blogging is a brotherhood - whether you agree or not with each other. Put the blinders on, make your blog the best it can be, and don't even worry about what the other guy is writing about.....
I gotta run ........ I need to make up some more 'Fake News' ..

SC6 Fake News Exclusive: Obama Suddenly Names a Health Care Czar.

Sensing a need to take the politics out of the Health Care debate as his support slips, President Barack Obama unexpectedly named Dr. Doug Ross as his Health Care Czar. Ross, a Seattle Surgeon, had previously been an emergency room (ER) doctor at County General Hospital in Chicago. He's also been a handyman at a private girls school in Peekskill, New York.
White House mouthpiece Robert Gibbs touted Ross' qualifications... "We've decided that, to take the political process out of finding common sense solutions to the Health Care issue, that we should put a doctor in charge on deciding. That way, it's all his fault", said Gibbs. "He's a doctor, and he's darned good looking too..... who's going to argue with those eyes?"
What precipitated the sudden move? Maybe it was Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' lack of reaction to a Town Hall protestor..... At least give some kind of BS reply. Sebelius' failure was an obvious sign of poor judgement and perhaps a lack of support for the $900 Billion plan. Whatever it was, Ross' appointment is a sure sign that damage control is underway.....
This just in...... Ross has been named as one of eleven suspects in a series of Casino robberies in the last few years, and his selection has now been revoked......

The Numbers Are In... Cash For Clunkers Is Helping The Stronger Carmakers.

Your Tax Dollars... Going Straight Into Mr. Toyota's Pocket.
We told you this was going to happen. Well, the first numbers for the Cash For Clunkers are coming in, and it's confirming exactly what we said would happen. The car that people are trading in their clunkers for are from the better off carmakers. That is, the carmakers that we spent billions of dollars for, and tried to level the playing field to are not benefitting from Cash For Clunkers...
Here are the Top Ten selling cars from the program:
1. Ford Focus
2. Toyota Corolla
3. Honda Civic
4. Toyota Prius
5. Toyota Camry
6. Ford Escape
7. Hyundai Elantra
8. Dodge Caliber
9. Honda Fit
10. Chevy Cobalt
Now, in case you forgot, Toyota, Hyundai and Honda are all quite liquid.... Ford has had their troubles, but they didn't need or ask for Uncle Sam's help. But, just like how most well-intentioned programs of the government happen, most of the tax money that you and I are paying for will end up in the hands of foreign carmakers, who have plenty of cash already. Yes, many Toyota, Honda and Hyundais are made in the US, but trust us, the money will ultimately end up in Japan. Just like we said it would....
If the goal was to help out GM and Chrysler, then Cash For Clunkers should have been geared towards US makers. They didn't do that, and now we're paying for it. This temporary adrenaline shot -and that's all it is - just kickstarted the stronger carmakers. We're not telling people what kind of car to buy, they're just taking advantage of the incentives. But when you have a bunch of politicians and political hacks that never spent a day in the car business make up these programs, this should come as no surprise.
It didn't surprise us.

The Daily Show Honors The Palmetto State - Though Not In a Way We'd Appreciate.

In case you missed it last night, The Daily Show had a segment, featuring our wonderful state. While the purpose of it was to bestow an honor upon South Carolina, it wasn't exactly the kind of honor that you like. You see, Jon Stewart and the rest of the gang decided that South Carolina has taken over the mantle as the most laughworthy state in the US....
Now, I've always liked The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, even though they do tend to pick on Republicans. But sometimes, we deserve it, and other times the Democrats do too. No doubt, we have had some pretty goofy stories come down the pipe here lately. There's plenty to go around for Stewart to pick on, and he sure did.
I know some of you guys aren't going to find this very funny, but if you can't laugh at your own foibles - like wearing a super shiny dress shirt - then what can you laugh at? Yeah, it would be nice to NOT have this distinction, but we are South Carolina - the state that's too small to be a country, and too big to be an insane asylum.....

Happy Birthday, Mr. President....

Dear President Obama,
Happy 47th birthday ! Since it's your first birthday in the White House, I thought I'd send you some congrats. That, and it seems like everyday, I have a bunch of people I know that are having birthdays. Your my fifth today - I won't embarrass my other friends that share you birthday. I have the same birthday as OJ, so I understand totally......
Secondly, I wanted to write to try and pick you up. By now, I'm sure you're starting to get a little down. The media eventually turns on everyone at some point. Maybe you were hoping it would take at least six or seven years , not months. What do you expect when all of these Big Government programs - none of which have been shown to pay for themselves - contradict what you ran on. And those Birthers !!! Geez, when a slew of people can't even be convinced that you were born here, life is going to be hard. You have any of those Bud Lights left over?
I don't have a whole lot of advice for you - mainly because I don't think you'd bother listening anyway. You and the rest of the Democrats have ignored my good advice that the US Economy is so huge, that it only needs minor tweaking - and a little time - to turn itself around. Why bother? You guys have the ball, and I'm sure in normal DC fashion, you guys will drop it. Everyone there always does....
Nope, i just wanted to send a note to tell you to enjoy your first birthday as President. JFK was one of your heroes, so I thought you'd enjoy this present....

Sorry Honey.. After You Graduate, It's Up to You to Get a Job....

This Is Only the First Hurdle to Getting a Good Job - Not the Last...
I'm sorry to tell some of you this, but we reall have become an entitlement nation. That is, we have programmed our kids to automatically think that if you get a college degree, then you are promised a career of your choice. Unfortunately, many of our parents thought this fallacy to be true -I know my Dad is one of them. Most of us in the real world know this - but we don't go suing our alma mater.....
Not Trina Thompson. The 27 year old was a graduate of Monroe College in Da Bronx this past April. Apparently, after three whole months of searching since she graduated college, she has not been able to land a job. It seems that Monroe College hasn't been able to get her a job in her field since she earned her IT degree. Not that there ARE any jobs out there right now. But, that really shouldn't matter, should it? In this age of bailouts and 'free' stuff, Thompson must have decided that it wasn't her fault, or nobody's fault. Nope, in sue-happy New York, there's always soemone to blame. So Thompson is seeking $70,000 in damages from Monroe College - the equivalent of her 4 years of tuition and expenses !!
Everytime I think I've written a blog post of the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, something tops it. This is unbelieveable. Hey Trina, let me give you my graduation experience... I earned a degree in Economics, and my first job was unpaid, selling insurance. Then I sold vacuum cleaners, before I went back to my Summer job at the beach, driving the garbage truck for $9.00 an hour. About a year and a half after graduation , I got a business job - as a manager trainee working at a car rental office. Eighteen years after graduation, and i've never put that degree to use. This blog is as close to using it as I get..... So, who can I sue??
Thats the difference between people. I think of my situation, and I blame myself. I could have gone to another college and majored in Accounting and been a CPA, but I didn't. That is my fault. Trina can't find a job in field that was hot five years ago, but is the first thing that companies cut right now. Who's fault is it? Anyone but hers.... She's got her paper, so where's her job? If it were only that easy....

The New Florence Water Bill Looks Nice ... Wish It Were Cheaper, Though.

OOOOOOHHHHH !! Pretty New Logo ....

More evidence today that Florence is entering the 21st Century. I got my monthly water and garbage bill. It's looked exactly the same the past 12 years - plain, boring, straight out of the 1950's. But, it looks like someone in City Hall or Evans Street decided to be a little proactive, and get the billing up to date.

Yes, the first thing you notice is that the City Logo is on the bill, along with the new font and format. But, there are some useful items on there too. Like Progress Energy, you get a graph showing your usage too for the past year. It confirmed something for me that I had thought for a while.. The bills always seemed to be up, then down, then up, then down. My guess is that someone is estimating my usage every other month, and the next month, it actually gets read. Do I have proof of this? Of course not - it's just a conspiracy theory I have...

Overall, the new bill is an improvement, both in appearance, and usefulness. Now, if they could just figure out how to lower the bill. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

Congress Takes It's Break to Get Your Opinion on Health Care.... As If !

That Sound You're Hearing Is the Harlem Globetrotters' Theme ....
I'm sure you heard it all last week, when Democrats finally strongarmed the Blue Dogs into submission, that all the Congressmen were going to come home for the August Break and find out what we think about the plan. Not that they've even read it, but that's another story. Let's focus here....
For a job thatpays fulltime money, Congress doesn't spend a whole lot of time in DC. They only work about 150 days a year in session, which is about 100-150 days less than you and I work. They usually tell you that it's so they can go home to their respective districts, and update their constituents on what's up. Sounds right, but according to an article in TheHill.com today, a lot of them are going anywhere but home.
Many of them are called CODEL's - short for Congressional Delegation, which are overseas 'fact finding trips'. Among them are House Minority Leader John Boehner leading a CODEL to an unspecified location 'dealing with the economic crisis and homeland security', Reps. David Price and David Dreier are headed to a CODEL in Peru, and several Democrats on the Foreign Affairs Committee are going to Liberia, Ghana and Morocco to talk about trade issues. Lastly, House Majority leader Steny Hoyer and Minority Whip Eric Cantor will lead about 55 members on the House on two separate trips to Israel and the West Bank, on a trip sponsored by a non-profit group called American Israel Education Foundation. Of course, the tips are separated by party, which is stupid. maybe if they all went together, they'd get along a little better. Wait, that makes sense. Sorry, don't know what I was thinking there....
Now, maybe a lot of them are coming home... And maybe some of them are preparing tours to get our opinions on the upcoming Health Care bill. So far though, I haven't heard of anyone coming around. So much for being the eyes and ears of our people. Just like in 2005, when Spratt and Clyburn went on their disinformation tour so they could keep control of Social Security, they only get out to change your mind, not to get your opinion. The fact is, Congress doesn't really care what you think, only that you agree with them. Most people have serious questions about the new bill - questions that most Congressmen can't answer. So, don't expect that tour to be coming around this month.......

Mea Culpa.

There's No Defending an Ugly Dress Shirt ....

It looks like I need to apologize to the American public, as well as my fellow Republicans and bloggers. I had never previously made Waldo Lydecker's Journal, probably because I'm not a homophobe, or at least a percieved homophobe by anyone. But, I finally was the brunt of his Mr. Blackwell like scorn - and judging by the pics, I don't blame him.

What did I do that was so offensive? I wore an ugly shirt. Now, i will defend it partially. On film, it doesn't look like it matches, but under regular light, it matches the tie to a T. Yeah, I have a bunch of suits that match way better, but it was kinda warm, so i decided to try and mix it up a bit. I've never been the Navy Suit/Red Tie/White Shirt Republican.... but I still dress better than Earl.

But, I should take these things into consideration next time. My apologies to Waldo, and I hope to hear better comments from him on my fashion sense in the future. This just in..... Kelly Payne has dropped out of the Superintendent of Education race, due to the shame of being in this picture.....

Eggs, Grits and Politics ..

Berkeley County Republican Breakfast Club Draws Hundreds ....

It might still be Summer, and maybe it's not an election year yet, but you wouldn't have known it by the crowd at American Legion Hall No. 166 in Goose Creek today. On a warm Saturday morning, a sold-out crowd of probably 200 (others estimated higher) were on hand for today Breakfast Club meeting. The only shame is that there weren't more candidates there. Of the five candidates for Governor, only Sen. Larry Grooms (R-Bonneau) was there. Congressman Gresham Barrett had to cancel, the others had scheduling conflicts. I doubt wherever they were had a bigger crowd. It's a little surprising. I've been to at least three or four of these, and the place is always jam-packed...... They missed out on a good opportunity to meet active Republicans.

But, for every loser, there is usually a winner. Grooms made out like a bandit in the Straw Poll taken, taking over 90% of the vote. That should be no surprise - it was held in Larry's backyard, and it may have been the reason for the other candidates not coming. Grooms used his five minutes to do magic tricks and sing a song or two - kidding. He was much like he was in Sumter - impassioned, but using specifics on what the Governor and legislature can do to bring jobs to South Carolina.

In a bit of an odd twist, Brent Nelsen, who decided that running for Superintendent of Education would be better than running for Governor - and we agree - spoke before Lt. Governor candidates. They still had him as a Gubernatorial candidate, which explained why he went next. He did well, giving some great ideas to allow private groups to assist at-risk kids in their education. He stayed around longer than most of the guests as well.

Bill Connor was the only Lt. Governor candidate to be present as well. Thank God, because when I got there, the only person I knew that sat at a table with an available seat was Joshua Gross. So, I sat at the candidates table again - blogging does have it's priviledges! Connor does seem to be addressing some criticisms. I had been hearing that voters felt he was pushing his faith a little too much. I know, it may seem impossible to do that with Republicans, but I've been hearing that from insiders from both sides of the aisle. He gave it credit, but didn't go too much into it, which was the way to do it. Overall, it was one of his better speeches....

Dean Allen, Adjutant General candidate, spoke briefly. He gave his qualifications and the duties of the job he was seeking, but two minutes is not a lot of time to really hit voters. I do have a campaign coin from him, though. If you can't get em on the podium, give them something to remember you afterwards.

Although she did not speak, Kelly Payne, the other announced candidate for Superintendant of Education, was there with her IT KIDS. I finally got to meet her in person today, and she quickly put me to work, taking pictures, and joining Earl Capps to talk to the kids about blogging, and it's place in politics and the media. As usual, Earl did most of the talking.... We basically closed the place, but Kelly had as big an audience there as anyone else. Like me, people wanted to know more about the newest entrant in the statewide race. Coming but not speaking might have been an inadvertant stroke of genius - she got to shake hands, but not have to be criticized at such an early stage... Good move. Here's some pics:

Brent Nelsen and Bill Connor listen to Charles Schuster address the crowd...

The IT KIDS and Earl strike a pose.....

Larry Grooms talks shop with one of his constituents.

The Legion Hall Everlasting Tribute to Those that Never Came Home. We Will Not Forget.....

Kelly Payne and I. See, I get dressed up sometimes.....
