Primary Day, Part I: Bauer and Rice Move On ...

Like we said, Round One is just survive and advance in this race.  To no one's surprise, former Lt. Governor Andre Bauer finished first in the Republican Primary for the 7th Congressional District with 32% of the vote.  In what was the real battle, Horry County Council Chair Tom Rice held off a late rally from Florence's Jay Jordan, and took the important second spot with 27%. Jordan, who didn't seem to dominate the early Pee Dee voting as much as may have been expected, finished third with 22%.  Chad Prosser finished a distant fourth at 10%...

Now, Round Two begins.... While we think a Bauer-Jordan matchup would have been more favorable for Bauer, a final against Rice isn't bad either.  Jordan's 22% are the key people both will go after, and Bauer does have a better shot at them on the surface.  He made a smart move by complimenting Jordan's campaign on air this morning. Now, whether it will work out is another thing..

Like most close third place finishers, Jordan suddenly sits in the temporary kingmaker seat.  Whether or not he takes advantage of it remains to be seen... Rice didn't poll very well from the Pee Dee from what we saw in early voting, whereas Bauer has been getting votes from here for over a decade.  However, Jordan's Uber-Christian stance isn't exactly a match made in Heaven (pun intended) for Bauer.  A Rice endorsement could be coming, but who knows about that, and if it does come, will voters follow..... or make up their own minds.  Time will tell - June 26th.

I am a Jay Jordan supporter and live between Darlington and Florence but I do not attend Baptist temple. I supported Jay because he's from Florence and feel we need someone that understands what we face in Darlington and Florence. Given the choice between Rice and Bauer, its and easy choice for me its Bauer. I have family at the beach and the talk has always been that Rice is owned by Burroughs and Chapin and the big business wheeler dealers down there.
