I Know I'm Kicking a Dead Horse Here, But...
Newman's Got My Printer Cartridges SOMEWHERE !!!
Time for the ultimate in cliched blog posts. I try not to pick on the US Postal Service because sometimes its just too damn easy, but this may be the ultimate in Snail Mail...
I needed to order some ink cartridges for my Dell Laptop. As far as I know knew, you couldn't get them in a store, so I ordered them online from another company. Although I didn't need them overnight, I gave about a week to ship it to me. I got a confirmation that they made the local office zip code 38017 - in Collierville, TN on April 28th - cool. While they didn't give me any shipping options (like Priority Mail for $3.50), I wasn't to worried once I knew that my package was in the capable hands of the USPS.. OOPS !!
I've been checking my tracking verification online for ten days now, and today, finally got verification of my package. It's made it to the Bulk Mail facility number 38199............ in Memphis, TN. Memphis is about 12 miles from Collierville. Twelve miles in TEN FRIGGIN' DAYS !!!!!!! At this rate, it will arrive for my 42nd birthday - IN 2010 !!
Yes, this gives new meaning to the term Snail Mail, but exactly how much faster or slower is this than an actual Snail? The answer? Not much faster. I looke dit up, and the average Snail moves at the rate of 4/1000 of a mile an hour, so in ten days , the Snail would have made it about 1/10 of mile. However, I bet you green money that if the snail was trying to get to South Carolina, he'd have enough brains to slither across onto the bumper of a nearby car, and hitch his way here in less than ten days....
So, who's to blame for this? A certain Congressman? Or is it someone else we know????

Darlington Goes Boogity, Boogity, Boogity...
The Redneck Wonder That Is the Southern 500 Comes Back......
Yep, it's race weekend here in the Pee Dee again. Southern 500 weekend !!! Of course, it didn't get off to a great start today. That was one heck of a storm, but it did wash all the crap off the track surface. All the drivers were complaining that the track was loose and sandy. Well, Darlington County is at the foot of the Sandhills - the track's bound to get dusty.
I used to be involved with race weekend a lot more when I worked for Enterprise in the 90's. The local jetport was my big hang out, and i got to see all the drivers and give them their rental cars..... and then spend all day Monday picking the cars back up! But being at Darlington Raceway before or during the race is one of those things that everyone in the Pee Dee should experience at least once. I've been to two races. The first was great, the second sucked. Remember in the early part of the decade, when it rained EVERY RACE? I caught one of them...
Hopefully, this year's race will have good weather, but we're no out of the woods yet. Tomorrow's forecast? Hazy, Hot and Humid, with a high of about 94 ... Yes, Summer has come to South Carolina. Do you have your own Darlington story? Feel free to share your story with us... My pick for winner? A guy who attacks a track like Darlington. No big surprise here - I'm going with Kyle Busch.....

Ed, Ed, Ed.... Mayor Hickory Head Takes Councilman Robinson To Task...

No, this isn't an accidental reprint from 2007.. or 2006.... or 2005. Florence Coity Councilman Ed Robinson was arrested this week - again. This makes it six times in the last five years for those of you keeping score. Compared to Ed, my one night in Effingham is nothing. Ed Robinson is twice the politician that I am..... actually, six times the politician.....
The big question everyone from put of town asks is "how does he stay in office?" It's simple. Everything that Ed has been thrown in the clink for is BS - as in pittypat offenses. This time, it was driving with a suspended license - again. That isn't really something you can kick a guy out of office - no matter how many times it happens. Governor Sanford can't pull him from office. Mayor Stephen Wukela can't either, but in an interview, he didn't seem to pull any punches on what needs to happen....
Old Wooden Head laid it right out - Robinson needs to be voted out by his constituents next time around. It's been pretty obvious that Robinson has slowed down the progress of the Downtown area, and in turn, hurting his own people. His absence would be an addition by subtraction, but he does have his supporters. They're the same 400 people who are convinced that he is their only voice, and that Ed is a victim ... of everyone.
Of course, that's silly. But he still manages to get elected each term. His time is coming around again soon. Will Wukela work to knock out Robinson, and to a lesser degree, Billy D. Williams ? Don't ask me, ask P-Luv...

Even In Their Workplace, Congressmen Get Lost...
Congress Can't Find Their Way Around The Capitol Visitor's Center
Congressmen are clueless. How's that for a stunner? Thanks, that's tonight blog post. Have a great day, and come back tomorrow for the most insightful views in politics....
Yeah, we all know that many Congressmen couldn't find their way out of a paper bag with a lit match, but it's pretty pathetic when they can't get back to their own offices !! That's what's happening en masse with most of Congress and their new Capitol Visitor Center - the massive 580,000 square foot addition to the Capitol.
How bad is it? Here is a quote from Lost Congressman Gerry Connelly (D-Va.), " Right now, short of breadcrumbs, most of us get hopelessly lost in the cavernous facility. It's very easy to get lost, and we've got to do something about it so that it is very clear how you connect back to to the House. The sign for the tunnel leading to the Cannon Building is a piece of paper taped to the wall that someone printed out. That's just not adequate."
Translation? WAAAAAAAAHHHHH !! I'm a friggin idiot who can't find my way around my own job site, and I can't even read a sign that tells me HOW to get back. How pathetic is that? Some members are requesting that they add GPS for the CVC onto their Blackberry's. Continue on for 20 feet.... open door...... enter your office.... sit at desk.... Very Good!
But, fear not - for every clueless Congressman, there is a committee and 16 government agencies that oversee the enterprise to make sure that every member can wipe their butt properly... In this case, it's the House Administration Committee and the CVC Director of Communications and Marketing. They are promising to do whatever it take sto get the dummies acclimiated to their new building - including new signs, GPS - whatever it takes. Here's a suggestion: how about taking about 20 minutes to SHOW them how to get around ?????

See, I DO Only Hang With Smart People .
Well, Maybe Not Straight A's , But Pretty Darn Close !!
I've always said that a pretty good indicator that you were intelligent was that you read this blog. But, another good sign is merely hanging out with yours truly, or merely being my friend. Need proof? Here it is... I heard form Ms. X today, and the word is that she totally kicked ass this semester - 3 A's and 2 B's ....
Clearly, having me as a friend has been a positive influence on her. Of course, I can't take any credit. She had a lot of distractions, but she stayed focused, and did excellent. Congrats !!

Is Dr. Pepper's Secret Recipe Out ?

Life is all about timing.... Being in the right place at the right time - and recognizing the opportunity as it presents itself. Take Bill Waters as an example. Bill was scrounging through an antiques store in Shamrock, Texas, when he stumbled upon a dusty, old ledger with a bunch of unrecognizable recipes in it.
Well, after some research, he realized that he had stumbled onto the ledger from the original pharmacy where Dr. Pepper was invented. Included in the ledger is a recipe for a D. Peppers Pepsin Bitters .... Has the secret Dr. Pepper recipe, only known by three employees, been let out of the bag? Who knows....
What they do know is that the handwriting is 120 years old, and almost illegible. After all, it was written by a pharmacist... They also expect the ledger to grab between $50,000-75,000 at auction. Waters paid $200 for it.... Nice! I've been able to read from the ledger is this: "Seltzer, syrup, mandrake root, sweet flake root........ tastes pretty shitty."
Some things never change. Is it just me, or does it look like they filmed this commercial in Downtown Latta?

Thanks to Charlie for the picture. This is why they tell you to check yourself in fornt of the mirror before you go out - and remove the first thing that gets your attention... She's either someone with a real good sense of humor, or she's just plain crazy. Either way, she's cool with us..

Here's a Gift to Cheer You Up...
For Five Minutes Last Night, I WAS McLovin ..

SC6 Needs Your Opinion ..

No, that cat doesn't really have a drivers license. Most of the time on the blog, we give you our own opinions on various issues and topics. While we always ask you to contribute you own thoughts, over the next couple days, we have a couple things that we're going to blog about that we really want your views on...
Yesterday was the SCGOP Executive Committee meeting, where all of the bigwigs of the state party gather to discuss events and issues for South Carolina's betterment. Here's an idea that was pitched by someone to a person that holds statewide office, and then was asked to me later on that day.
Here is the theory: South Carolina has one of the worst unemployment rates in the US, along with one of the lowest rated educational systems. Our dropout rates are atrocious. Companies look at our statistics and feel that South Carolina's poorly educated people make it a bad place to do business. The goal is to improve those dropout rates, make our workforce stronger and better trained, and get those more skilled, higher paying jobs in the Palmetto State.
Here is the pitch: Requiring citizens of SC to complete High School or their GED,or risk losing their drivers license. There are carrots as well as penalties. Anyone who finishes school will get a $1000 tax credit from the state - as well as probably being qualified for better paying jobs..Anyone who currently doesn't have a license will have 10 years to finish their education, and those over 55 will not be required to do it,because they will be so close to retirement.
I'm sure there are details I'm missing here, but that is the basic plan. It does address the root cause of South Carolina's basic economic woes. But, this is South Carolina, where we value our personal freedoms. It would undoubtedly be viewed as being biased against lower income people and minorities, which would get the ACLU right on the case. The cost is another question, although I would think that might be considered an investment with a positive return.
The most realistic situation that would concern me is that we would have an entire subculture of people who ignore this law, and go around driving unlicensed and uninsured, then the end up hitting my car someday. Like most issues, there are good points and bad points. I did get the person's OK to post this, because any good politician wants to know all sides , and wants to know their constituent's opinion.
Tell us what you think here, but be respectful, whether you agree or disagree - or maybe give a solution of your own...
