When we were kids, we remembered both Abraham Lincoln and George Washington's birthdays separately. Since they got shuffled and combined into President's Day, we kind of forget to honor either of them. This week was the 278th Anniversary of George Washington's birth. We're going to commemorate it by giving you the text of the eulogy of Washington by John Marshall - Congressman, Secretary of State, and the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. They guy obviously wore a lot of hats... Most people know the first words, but we have the whole commentary for you.....
"First in War, First in Peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen, he was second to none in humble and enduring scenes of private life. Piuos, just, humane, temperate and sincere.. Uniform, dignified, and commanding, his example was as edifying to all around him as were the effacts of that example lasting: Correct thoughout, vice shuddered in his presence and virtue always felt his fostering hand. The purity of his private character gave effulgence to his public virtues."
If you wonder sometimes why I post these, it's becuase I think it's necessary for the times we live in... Yes, things are different than 230 years ago, but if our officials used the same values and thought that our founding fathers did, instead of perverting the system the way both sides do now, doing what's right for America would be a lot easier....
