Former Presidential candidate and current Obama Secretary of Commerce nominee Bill Richardson has withdrawn his nomination in connection with a charge of child abuse involving this picture of him assaulting a kid during last year's campaign... Actually, we're just kidding about the child abuse.
We don't tyr to get too much into the details on stuff like this, but it involves an upcoming investigation concerning a 'pay for play' scandal where a financial firm that donated $110,000 to Richardson's governor campaign were awarded either a $1.48 million or $1.48 billion state contract. MSNBC had both numbers on it's website, although I'm pretty sure it's million. In this day of overblown budgets, who knows??
Richardson has said that he is sure the investigation would clear him of any wrongdoing, but that it would make his approval from the Senate more difficult. He's had a pretty good reputation, and the whole purpose of donating to a politician is to either get a contract or vote for a bill. That's how every state and DC works, right?
But, the whole issue is that Richardson doesn't want to put a black eye on Barack Obama's administratio before it even starts, so he's backing out. Maybe that will open the door for Jim Clyburn to step in. Hey, experience doesn't matter, and I can dream, can't I?

Who else? His daughter. She's been interning for the gig for years..
One of these days when we meet and have a drink, I'll have to tell you my story about meeting Richardson...
BTW, an example of how politicians should handle themselves if up for an appointment/nomination and a scandal breaks.
