I'd be Happy Too If I Were Rudy...
Time to talk about polling data... I know, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ !! Hey, it is a political blog, so I have to talk shop once in a while. Now that Fred Thompson is in, we get to sift through the data on his impact since joining the race a few weeks ago. The news is good for Rudy and John McCain, not as good for Thompson and Mitt Romney.
Despite being the front runner, Giuliani has not lost much, if any, in the race for the White House. For those of you who have been reading the blog , I explained why Thompson's entry wouldn't matter much. Thompson is the one for the far right, so all the smaller campaigns are the ones losing ground. The Hunters, Tancredos and Brownbacks are losing what little they have. Giuliani and McCain will not lose votes to them, only to each other.
In South Carolina, not a ton has happened, despite Thompson's entry. Rudy and Fred are in a statistcal dead heat - not bad, considering Giuliani's platform and distance from the state. maybe we aren't as Conservative as they think. Typically, there is an 8% bump when a candidate officially announces. This didn't happen, but most candidates take less time to jump in. Not a surprise - Thompson's dragging it out is like asking your fiancee' to marry after about 10 years - about damn time!
McCain seems to have solidfied a few points above Romney, who has spent liberally in SC for weeks, but he still can't get out of 4th. The campaigns doing best are the ones organized locally, not the ones spending money. Seems like politics is still local.......GO RUDY!
