After about 40 years of speculation and searching, police in Northern California may finally have the name of the Zodiac Killer. If you're unfamiliar with the Zodiac, he terrorized the San Francisco area for a decade in the late 60's and early 70's while murdering eight people. He would send cyphered letters to the police and local media, toying with them all the while.
According to a local TV station, it appears the man's name is Jack Tarrance of Pollack Pines, California. Tarrance died in 2006, and his stepson has found various items inside of a PA system of Tarrance's, including a hood with the Zodiac symbol, a roll of film, and a knife with possibly dried blood. In addition, Tarrance matches the description and his handwriting is extremely close as well.
DNA tests are currently being done by police, and they are attempting to get a DNA test to match Tarrance as well, but his stepson is convinced that Tarrance is not only the Zodiac, but that he murdered his wife as well. If all this is correct , it ends one of the longest and most frustrating investigations in recent history.. Here is the story from Channel 13 in Sacramento:
