SC6 Remembers Bernie Mac...

Word today that comedian Bernie Mac has passed away today at age 50. He died at a Chicago area hospital from pneumonia, likely caused by his 25 year battle with sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that often attacks the lungs. He was admitted last week, and even though he was listed in 'very, very critical condition', his publicist stated that he would make a full recovery. I guess that's what you pay them for.
Mac, born Bernard McCullough, was married for the past 30 years, and is survived by his wife, daughter and grandaughter. From all reports, he seemed to be a stable guy, although he did have an episode or two of controversy. Last month, he was criticized for using foul language and bad taste at a Barack Obama fundraiser, and in 2003, he took partial blame for the Cubs losing in the playoffs when he sang 'Take me out to the Ballgame' by saying 'Root, Root, Root for the Champions". They ended up losing the game, although that Bartman guy was a little more responsible for Cubs losing. Mostly, though, it was the Cubs.........
I'm not going to say that I was his biggest fan , or that I watched every episode of 'The Bernie Mac Show', but he did play one of my favorite characters in one of my more favorite movies - the 1999 Eddie Murphy / Martin Lawrence movie, 'Life'. Here is a clip of him playing 'Jing-a-Ling' - a homosexual murderer on a prison in Mississippi...
