There's No Doubt Who Your Next Sheriff Should Be After Yesterday..

Kenney Boone: Protecting Florence County Like a Sheriff Should.

There's a popular saying, "In times of trouble, Character isn't built - It's exposed". Well, this week Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone showed his character and skill during a hostage situation in Pamplico. If you had any doubts who should elected Sheriff in November, your mind should be made up now.

For those of you not from the area, there really are two Florence County's. Northern Florence County, while not urban, is a definite suburban area, where many of us are transfers who have our 1/4 to 1/2 acre of lawns and backyards.. The rest of Florence County is generally pretty rural. There is a lot of space, and to hear a shotgun crack every now and then is not uncommon. I wouldn't call it rednecky, but definitely more country.

You might run into a guy here and there who doesn't respect the law out there, and one of them came into Pamplico this week. The man had a recent arrest in North Carolina for assaulting his girlfriend (nice), and got into another fight , and he took the woman's 13 yr old son hostage for two hours. To some , two hours is not a long time, but not every hostage situation turns into Dog Day Afternoon. If you're being held against your will by a nutjob threatening to kill you, two hours is forever........

Sheriff Boone was on the scene, not behind his desk in Effingham, and the county SWAT team , after negotiating and determining that the boy's life was in danger, took the guy out. SLED will investigate, as is normal, but I have no doubt they will be exonerated. If you have any question if they did the right thing, my advice is to drive down Highway 52 in Effingham, just south of the 301 turnoff.....

There you will see the Joey Rodgers Memorial Overpass. Rodgers was a Sheriff's Deputy killed in action, during the term of Boone's predecessor, who now wants his old job back. I expect a few of you old schoolers to yell at me that it wasn't his fault, blah, blah, blah. I worry about end results.... the facts are under Boone, the bad guys pay - under the last guy, the cops pay. Who's side are you on? Good Job, Kenney and to the Florence County Sheriff's Department....

Leading from the front, like the Charleston, Dorchester and Colleton Sheriffs are doing this week with another fallen officer.

Maybe the locals here need to know about that, so they don't elect the wrong guy.
