SC6 Lets You Know Who Crosses Over the Aisle On the Hill..... And Who Doesn't.

Shhhhhhhh..... Bob Inglis Has a Good Reputation With Democrats.
I have no doubt that I just cost Bob Inglis the 2010 election... Maybe not. As much partisan bickering as there is in Washington, having the reputation that you aren't isn't such a bad thing, is it? Sure, you'll probably never be majority or Minority Chair, Vice-Chair or Whip, but personally, I'd rather be the one sits on the sidelines and gets things done....
There was a nice piece in TheHill.com today, which lists the most partisan and non-partisan members of the House of Representatives - according to the members of the opposing party. You'll never guess who won the most partisan Democrat - yep, San Fran Nan herself ! As one GOP member said, "The Speaker honestly does not like Republicans." But there are some surprises. Her sidekick, Steny Hoyer, was named a top bi-partisan Dem, as was Barney Frank.... I said Bi-partisan, not Bi-sexual. Then again, he was also voted a top partisan, so he does go both ways. Sorry, couldn't help it.....
The top partisan Republicans were both Southerners: Tom Price (Ga.), who was described as "Entirely predictable and uncooperative", and Virginia Foxx (NC), who we had as Number 7 on our Hotties of the Hill. Foxx was termed as 'opaque' by one Democrat...The only South Carolinian listed was Bob Inglis. None of the others are a surprise: Clyburn is very partisan, Spratt likes to think he is non-partisan, but never really goes there, and the rest of the GOP members don't go out of lockstep enough to let any feel that they think for themselves... Here is the list:
Partisan Democrats:
Nancy Pelosi(Ca), Henry Waxman(Ca), John Conyers(Mi), Barney Frank(Ma), Jim McDermott(Wa)
Partisan Republicans:
Tom Price(Ga), Virginia Foxx(NC), Jeb Hensarling(Tn), Patrick McHenry(NC), Michele Bachmann(Mn)
Bi-Partisan Democrats:
Neil Abercrombie(Hi), Rick Boucher(Va), Bill Delahunt(Ma), Barney Frank(Ma), Steny Hoyer(Md), Jim Oberstar(Mn), Collin Peterson(Mn), Ike Skelton(Mo), Gene Taylor(Ms), Ed Towns(NY).
Bi-Partisan Republicans:
Judy Biggert(Il), Bob Inglis(SC), Walter Jones(NC), Steve LaTourette(Oh), John McHugh(NY), John Mica(Fl), Ron Paul(Tx), Lee Terry(Ne), Fred Upton(Mi), Bill Young(Fl).
What conclusion can we draw from this? If you can get a room full of people from Florida, Minnesota and New York together, you might get somewhere.... Just keep the guys from California and North Carolina out of the room !! Here's the article:

Congresswoman Foxx is a friend of mine. I plan on getting her to Clarendon in my tenure. Serious.

Yeah, i know she's your plane buddy. Calling her opaque is pretty insulting. Part of it is defined as 'unclear or unintelligible'.. Must be the Boone accent.

Knowing Boucher's district in VA, there are quite a few "moderate" (read that far left) Democrat platform planks that his constituents "don't cotton to" RTKBA towards the top of the list and getting hosed by Doug Wilder kinda overcomes bits of the animosity to the "party of Lincoln".

Excellen post. The conclusions I usually draw from things like this is that its generally the GOP and Dem members from more moderate districts that are not "safe" that tend to cross over. Looking at your list from The Hill I see that to be pretty true. Gene Taylor (D) has held onto a pretty red district in MS and GOP names like Walt Jones and John Mica both represent pretty moderate districts.

The problem with Inglis is that he represents one of the most conservative districts in the nation according to Cook Political numbers. There is no reason why we (I live in Spartanburg) couldn't have another Hensarling or Pence or Bachmann representing us. As you probably know the conservative activist base that helped throw out incumbant chairs in both Gville and Sburg counties are done with Inglis. But a lot of establishment Repubs are still as perplexed as I am that he was essentially allowed to walk back into this seat in 2004. I think a lot of people thought he was more conservative than he is.

A lot of people are trying to get Senator David Thomas to run. So far the main competator in the primary is a guy named Andrew Smart, a restauranteer whose got the money to spend. Plus there is a conservative history professor who is friends with Newt. Anyway, I think conservatives will not only be targeting Barrett for efeat in the gov's race but also Inglis in this House race.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I have heard the term "Real Republican" more in the past month than in the previous 5 years. The tent seems to be tightening on itself. There already is an exclusive GOP group - they're called Libertarians!

Did Bob get free chicken or a rain check?

Judging by Oprah's ratings in DC, Bob got a rain check. He's got til May 19th anyway, with the exception of Mother's Day. That'd be pretty cheap - taking Mom to KFC for free chicken !!

"Oh Junior, you're so thrifty!"

I think Bob's a Bojangles fan anyway...

Hmmm, wanna bet on where Bob Inglis will be on 5/16/09?

Chatter is that he mightn't have made the cut for the delegation.
