SC6 Remembers Wayman Tisdale ...

Today, we got a little bad news when we learned of the passing of Wayman Tisdale from cancer. He was 44. Many of you probably have no idea who Wayman Tisdale was, so we'll tell you a little bit about him. Tisdale was on eof the most prolific scorers in NCAA basketball history, averaging over 25 points a game during his career at Oklahoma, he won three straight All-American honors - the last to do so, along with Patrick Ewing. He was the only Sooner athlete to ever have his number retired, but he gave it up to let Blake Griffin wear it....
He played in the NBA for 12 years, mostly for some pretty bad teams. One would think that playing basketball was his real passion, but he quit the NBA to devote himself to his music. While most NBA'ers go the Gansgta Rap route, Tisdale was an accomplished Jazz Musician. He played a pretty mean piano, but he was a heck of a bass player. Wayman Tisdale played music like he played basketball - Smooth. That is the best way to describe him. He didn't shy away from life when he was diagnosed with his illness after breaking his leg. It's too bad that his life was so short - he was a real role model for today's kids.
