The 'NY' Stands for Next Year...........Maybe.
Go ahead, gimme all the comments you want. The Yankees suck. I hate the Yankees. At least none of my regular readers are Red Sox fans. From what I see, none of our teams made it past the first round. Ed Palmer and Moye were Cubs fans, and Bobbo went down with the Phillies. Tough year.
The Yankees did pretty well, despite their pitching woes, but I have the feeling that the team will look a lot different next year. The Boss has gone 7 years without a title, and he's getting antsy..... and old. Here are my predictions.
Joe Torre:
Fired, but I hope he quits and tells Steinbrenner to kiss his butt on the way out. Joe looks real old and tired. He's won more than any manager under the Boss, and he deserves to take a break and enjoy life out from under his thumb.
A-Rod.
Gone. With the mammoth year he had, that old contract will look downright puny to the bucks that prick agent he has will get him. No Torre, no A-Rod . Not totally bad if they can use the extra cash to get a real first baseman and some PITCHING !!!
Roger Clemens.
Gone. Injured or Well, he's gone. That cellphone commercial isn't joking - Clemens wife wants him home for good, and this time, it's going to stick. Nice career , Rocket. Enjoy it.
Jason Giambi.
Mekka lekka hi, mekka Giambi GONE!! Good riddance, you bloated, overpaid steroid nut.
Jorge Posada:
Posada stays, and the Yanks will probably overpay him to do it. He started off 2007 on fire (contract year, of course), but he has looked pretty human th second half. Count on his usual .275/15/75 numbers from here on out.
The New Kids on the Mound:
Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes stay, and all the problems that accompany new pitchers will go with them. They'll do okay, but don't expect any Cy Young winners next year. However, knowing The Boss, one or more might be traded to get a first or third baseman.
Derek Jeter:
By mid 2008, after 13 years of the Boss' crap, Jeter will break his silence and ask to be traded for the first time. Of course, he won't go anywhere, but Torre is all he has known since Day One, and the adjustment will be tough.
The New Manager Is.........
Either Don Mattingly or Larry Bowa, but Bowa is a Phillie - then again, Torre wasn't a Yankee either, but he is from Brooklyn. I'll go with Donnie Baseball. Of course, Mattingly will regret the day he accepts the job down the road. He was pretty sensitive back in his playing days, and the daily attacks from the press and the Skybox in Tampa will get to him. Reminds me of Bucky dent in the late 80's, which became the Stump Merrill administration - and a lot of losing.
Looks like we may be stuck on 26 Championships for a while. I know - F. Me

Those Cubs sucked for sure
Joe Torre...not fired, his contract is up and will likely not be renewed. A-Rod, gone. Clemens, should have never come back....what a waste of $$$. Giambi, more roids please. Posada, might stay since the Tigers exercised their option on Pudge. Jeter...where was Mr. Clutch??? New manager...Donny baseball, welcome to 2nd place Toronto, behind Boston. Yankees 3rd and the Orioles comfortably in 4th as they are every year.
