Could Both Spratt and Clyburn Be In the Obama Cabinet ???
I'm not the first to post on this topic today, but since the other guy needs assistance on who is going where, I'll set everyone straight on it. There is a real possibility that South Carolina could lose both of it's Democratic congressmen to Barack Obama's cabinet.
The Palmetto Pooper Scooper was posting on whether or not Jim Clyburn is going to be a Cabinet Secretary, but seems confused or indecisive on which one it could be. First off, Clyburn is the less likely of the two congressmen to be tapped. John Spratt is more likely to be in an Obama cabinet, as Secretary of the Office of Management and Budget. Spratt has long been THE pointman for the Democrats when it comes to budget issues, so Spratt at the OMB is a very real possibility. Truth be known, Spratt really doesn't like being a congressman. He's more of a nuts and bolts guy. OMB is right up Spratt's alley......
As for Clyburn, I'll reiterate the post that I made right before the South Carolina Primary ten months ago. The post that made a little rag called the New York Times. For those of you who missed it then, it was called the Obama-Clyburn Quid Pro Quo..... Clyburn pushed for Obama in South Carolina. In return, if Obama won the Presidency, Clyburn would be named Secretary of Transportation. This would allow Jim to open the financial floodgates for the James E. Clyburn School of Transportation at SC State University, Clyburn's alma mater. Simple enough?
Yeah, Clyburn could end up in charge of Agriculture or HUD, but neither of those would cause a bumper crop of moolah that Clyburn wants so badly. Unlike Spratt, who would be qualified to be OMB Secretary, Clyburn isn't really the best choice for Transportation Secretary - he just thinks he is. But that has never stopped him before... My guess is that Clyburn turns down any gig except Transportation Secretary. If he does get it, expect what we also have told you for years to occur.. Your new Congresswoman - Mignon Clyburn !!
Hope this clears things up. While other guys try to convince you that they are experst on everything, there is one truth... When it comes to the 6th District, I am the powerboat with the guy skiing on the back, and the rest of you are riding in my wake.........

Speculations on who's gonna take Jimbo's spot? John Land, Gilda Cobb-Hunter? Does Wallace Scarborough live in that district?
Any available former Flo-town mayors?
More to dangle out there for special elections, alas tis a shame it isn't a gubernatorial appointment (or is it?)
It would be a special election. One could only hope Darrell Jackson would want this safe Democrat seat. On the other hand, the GOP would have a real good shot at picking up Spratt's seat. That is, if they actually pick a good candidate to run in the district for once.
This year, I doubt if either one would be picked up. It would actually be good for the Dems to move Spratt up and establish someone else in that seat. If they do it later, the GOP will have a better shot at it.
