SC6 New Music Pick: Neon Trees, 'Animal'

80's Synth-Pop From Mormon Country ???? Who Knew ...

Today, we give you a band that shows that you don't have to go to NY or LA to hit it big.... Hailing from Provo, Utah is Neon Trees. Made up of singer/keyboardist Tyler Glenn, guitarist Chris Allen, bassist Branden Campbell and our newest infatuation - drummer Elaine Bradley. I haven't had a crush on a drummer since Gina Schock of the Go-Go's in the 8th grade. Uhhh, before that it was Neil Peart of Rush.

Like their close friends, The Killers, they're not making anything that hasn't been heard at some time before. It's like classic 80's Synth-Pop, but there's not a lot of that going around, so they fill a nice little niche. It's inoffensive, peppy and fun...and Bradley and Glenn keep up the sexy factor as well. Rock doesn't really need much else, does it. Here is their first clip, called 'Animal' - no, not the Def Leppard or Pearl Jam songs. Enjoy, and we'll see you next week !

Fuzzy Thoughts: Hot Date Edition

Now Exactly WHERE IS That Outlet At?

It's about 430 now, and I thought we might be done posting for the day earlier... You see, I was expecting to be going out in a little while. I had a date set up with this girl, but she canceled last night due to 'not feeling well'. No problem, I had other plans in case anyway... Word was, we could go out today, but I had to decide what to do - which as most of you know is IMPOSSIBLE for me. So, I said I'll call after doing my usual Sunday routine (groceries, laundry, etc.) about 100PM or so, I thoughtfully picked a place for dinner, called....... and that was 3 hours ago. No, I don't call twice on a first date. Anyway, her loss is your gain, so SC6 is gonna keep the doors open a little longer today. Cue up the music!!!!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFRx4PkXeVM

OK, that enough. I had to pick 'hazy', because no one ever wrote a song with the word 'fuzzy' in it. Jami Gertz was pretty hot back then...... Anyway, we'll start with the weather: pretty damn crappy out today. Not too warm (mid 70's) but it's raining on/off like a mofo today. Did stop long enough to jump in the pool - help my sinuses. Speaking of which, I saw the doctor again this week. My triglicerides were spiked by too much starch at lunch. I fasted this time beofre the blood test, and it was fine. The problem is my bad cholesterol sucks. It's 175, so I'll have to take another test in a month, and if it still sucks, I'll be on some meds...

Not much in politics still, as we enjoy our Summer vacation from politicians.... Rod 'Kennedy Died 50 Years Ago -WTF Is With the Hair?' Blagojevich got hit for lying to the FBI - and nothing else. It did make me wonder how the USDJ would count that going 1-24. Much has been made of conviction rates by prosecutors in our 12th District Solicitor's race. My question is, does the prosecutor count that as 1-0 or 1-23? My guess is they feel a conviction is a conviction is a conviction. Still, I wouldnt go bragging that I handled that case, anymore than Henry McMaster did about the guy in the Pee Dee....

I am impressed with the Democrats and Congress' in general new found enthusiasm for beign tough on poor ethics, starting with .............. Roger Clemens? C'mon people, a guy lies about taking HGH (was that illegal then or not?), and they want to pop him for lying to a bunch of retards (yes, I just called Congress retards-again) about it?

Yesterday was a great day for me personally at work, as I participated in banning a customer from our dealership - for life. Yes, like Joe at the Fruit Stand did to Kramer and Jerry, we kicked this guy out. We all accept a little grief now and there, but when you are consistently an asshole, cursing at everyone in the dealership, not paying for a $300 tire from the last visit becuase you can't seem to miss a NYC pothole, then yes - we will gladly ask you to go any other dealership in the chain. It is OUR right.... Have a nice life, fuckstick.

Back to the 12th Solicitor's race for a second.... I had been sitting back on a scoop I got that a member of the Florence GOP lost their title for endorsing Democrat Ed Clements against Republican Rose Mary Parham in November. We'll not name names, becuase we never got confirmation that it actually happened - we'll just assume it did. The whole thing is kind of stupid on both parts. You can support a Democrat without having to endorse him/her, so why cut your nose off over a Solicitor's race? At the same time, it's much ado about nothing, but there are many people in the Florence GOP who have a personal stake in Parham winning - not to mention they REALLY want a woman to succeed, which is fine. But, rules in the GOP clearly state that you cannot ENDORSE a Democrat, and you give up your gig if you do. If they did, they gotta go...

Useless TV observation: I've been watching 'Bachelor Pad' and 'Real Housewives of DC' , and I haven't seen an interesting thing yet, except the guy who dresses like Don Johnson getting kicked off. Even 16 good looking people get boring when they spend the whole time scheming, rather than hooking up. As far as 'RHDC' - zzzzzzz. The English lady's voice makes me want to strangle her, yes Michaele is too friggin skinny, and of course, the standard assuming that you're a racist for leaving a boring party at a black woman's house. Hey, fried chicken and collard greens ain't for everyone...

Speaking of racially sensitivity, they guy who is pissed at me for my blog post on Roy 'We Can Save You Money' Singleton STILL is sending me hate comments ..... 4 YEARS after the post! Dude, I forgot all about Roy the day after I wrote that, why can't you?

Today's Founders Quote: Wicked & Religion?

'If Men are so wicked with Religion, what would they be if without it?'
-Benjamin Franklin.

All we know is Elsa Pataky is pretty wicked looking, and if she were a religion, we might pray more often....

Cartoon of the Week

Without a doubt, the most popular topic for the cartoonists was the Mosque at Ground Zero. While most took the stance of protestors being intolerant (and probably rightfully so), this by far was the best cartoon: it took that viewpoint, spun it sideways and was pretty damned funny... Let's just hope it never comes to this!

Ohio Will Never Be the Same ....

Town to Rename Itself After Dee Snider of Twisted Sister ??!!

This sounds like a story that should be on Earl Capps' blog, but we beat him to the punch for once - at least we think we did... This is a True Story. This Saturday, Cridersville, Ohio will change it's name to Sniderville for good. OK, we lied - it's only for one day.

Yep, the Twisted Sister frontman, aka Uncle Howdy, will be given the honor during the Bikers For Babies charity drive from Lima to Cridersville. Snider is the national chairman of BFB, so the honor seems quite fitting to us. No word yet if Snider will perform 'I Wanna Rock' ..... Get it? ROCK? BABIES? Rock a Bye, Baby? Eh, what you know from funny, ya Bastards !!!!!

Dee is one of the good guys in Rock - just ask Tipper Gore - and it was actually his accidental idea for the name change. A listener of his 'House of Hair' radio show called in from Cridersville, and Snider suggested the name change. Our guess is the event came out of that joke... Kudos to Dee, and enjoy the ride....

SC6 Remembers Rod Shealy

I'll admit, it's a bit odd trying to write a piece on someone who you would consider a friend, despite the fact that you never met them. Today, we'll try to do that anyway... To have a blog focused mainly on SC Politics, and to not pay tribute to one of the biggest players in the business of it, would be a travesty. Almost as if by luck, I had today off, so I can write just a few words about Rod Shealy, who passed away yesterday at age 56.
Undeniably, Rod was one of the most powerful people in the game, and definitely it's most colorful character. Always dressed so loud, even Earl Capps would ask him to tone it down, Rod made an impression wherever he went - but it wasn't for the clothes. He was one of the smartest and wittiest people in politics - a guy who changed the game. All of us in the blogging business like to think that we wield a certain amount of influence in politics, but we're all just a bunch of wannabe posers compared to the Shealy clan. If it weren't for Rod, Rod Jr. and Ross' involvement in the early stages of blogging, I don't think any of us would have the legitimacy that we have now.
Like any loss of a giant like Rod Shealy, there is a great chasm left in his wake - one that never is fully filled, nor should it be. For folks like me, Earl, Will Folks and the others, our job is to just keep going, and maybe to think every once in a while, 'What Would Rod Say?'..... I'll have one tonight for him, and he will be missed....

SC6 Music Pick:Civil Twilight 'Letters From the Sky'

We'll end today's post as usual with our New Music Pick: Coming from Cape Town, South Africa, Civil Twilight is a trio made up of Andrew (guitar, vocals) and Steven (bass, keyboards) McKellar and drummer Richard Wouters. They've been linked to MUSE and Radiohead, but I think the best comparison is Massive Attack meets U2. The started at home, but moved to Nashville in 2007 once they were signed.
We're not sure how much being white South Africans have hurt their career here in the US, but they've done pretty besides it. Word is that they've had songs on the 'Twilight' soundtrack, but we couldn't tell you, because we don't watch crap like that.... This is their biggest track, "Letters in the Sky". Enjoy, and have a great week...

And You Thought the Chips Were Noisy.....

You Can't Tell, But We're Speaking Through a Megaphone, So You Can Hear Us Over the Noise of the Bag, As We Eat These .... HELLO ??!!!!!
Every once in a while, we try to be consumer advocates. That is, if there is a great product that must be had (like Whoopie Pies or Capt. Derst's Bread), we gladly let you know about it. Now, from the blog that brought you Shoedini and Kinoki Foot Cleansing Pads, we have another product to warn you about.....
Sun Chips have been one of our favorite products ever since they came out decades ago: they're crunchy, tasty and not as bad for you as fried chips. Ever try sour cream and onion Sun Chips on a burger? You should... Anyway, while we'r enot at the forefront of environmental conformity, we do make the attempt when it's not too time consuming. A few weeks ago, we noticed the new 100% compostable Sun Chips bag. Our eyes opened wider, a lightness cam to our step. Things seemed to smell better. We leapt with delight at the Garden Salsa flavor bag - and we almost went deaf immediately......
We shit you not, this bag is the LOUDEST THING EVER MADE ON EARTH !!!!! It's so loud, that Frito-Lay has to take up space on the bag to explain why it's so loud. Seriously, I know people who no longer eat Sun Chips because the bag is so noisy. Actually, it could be a good thing. This will guarantee that you can't raid the cabinet for a midnight munchy of these things - no way possible. Want to see how loud they are? Watch this clip..... and smell the fear as you lose your hearing. Word is, air raid signals will now be replaced with SunChip bags..

Fuzzy Thoughts: The Heavy Anchor Edition

That Medal Ain't Just Weighing Down the Democrats .....

We'll be the first to admit it - we are damned tired. I get every other Saturday off, and literally, every one has been spent at a party at the house here. ALL SUMMER... We doubt we will get any sympathy from the Peanut Gallery for having to be burdened with drinking and eating every fortnight. However, Joe and Carol do throw awesome parties, but those parties involve a lot of work and preparation. Seriously, the last time I had a Saturday with no party to go to was June.... It doesn't end anytime soon either - August 29th is my family reunion in Pennsylvania. Somehow, we continue to trudge along... Whether it be from exhaustion or alcohol poisoning, let the fuzziness begin!!

First , the weather. Today, there is some cloudiness, but it is quite comfortable for mid-August. It might hit 80 today. Yesterday was absolutely perfect: 81 and not a cloud in the sky. I'm convinced that Joe and Carol pay extra for the nice weather as well... Work is OK as well, with a few concerns. Corporate hacked a few people this week, and for once, I made the cut. A 975 CSI for 2 months straight will do that. Unfortunately, we lost our 22 year old receptionist with an ass you had to see to believe. Sexy, sexy girl.... Too bad she's young enough to be my daughter, and not like I got lucky in the 8th grade either...

In sports, the Yankees roll along, with some minor pitching concerns. I'll feel better when Andy Pettitte comes back. As far as the Mets, they're pretty much out of it, but they still pull a headline or two. I still don't know what exactly K-Rod did to his fiancee's Dad, but to us, he broke a cardinal rule - never bring family to the office.....

Everyone is throwing their 2 cents in on the mosque near Ground Zero. While we are patriotic, we're sticking to our Libertarian streak here. This clearly is a freedom of religion issue here, and as such, if they want to build the place there, and it's legal, then they can do it. Long ago, we all came here to seek freedom for different reasons. First, no one wanted the Irish or Germans, then those smelly, greasy Italians came in, and those Jews that don't even read in the right direction came along. Then the Asians came...The only difference is that the people coming now are browner, and some of them follow the the more sensible line of the religion that these nutjobs follow. New York is a melting pot, and many Xenophobic White Bread Americans who don't realize that people of all races were killed on 9/11 have no idea about it. It may hurt some people's feelings, but they will get over it. Also, you can be sure that the NYPD, FBI and CIA will know who EVERY person that sets foot in that mosque is - which is legal too.

An indicator of how uninvolved in politics I am here. Chris Cox and Randy Altschuler are battling to take on vulnerable Democrat Tim Bishop (D-NY1) in my area here. I have NO IDEA when the primary is.... but the signs are up. Primaries only 75 days before the general election are a clear disadvantage to challengers in our book.... Good luck, fellas.

Good news on the social front. I've finally hooked up online with a woman who seems okay, and is not, uh ........ plump, with a nice personality. I need to find someone soon, because Carol almost couldn't take me rockin' the microphone at her party 2 weeks ago. Some things never change, but it always wears off. After all, it is ME we're talking about here....Speaking of things never changing, Joe decided that his 600HP Roush Stage 3 Mustang just didn't cut it, so he's having a ................... drumroll, please ................. Lamboghini Murielago come in Wednesday. Yes, we will post pics next weekend. I think he's lost his friggin mind, but when you're crazy and well-off, it's called eccentric.

I'll be off Thursday, but don't expect much from us here: I have a Dr.'s appt, then we're taking the kids to Adventureland. Haven't been there since I was 14.... Maybe my triglicerides will creep under 500 by then....

Today's Quote...Local or General Benefit

'The true test is, whether the object be of a local character, and local use, or whether it be of general benefit to all of the states. If it be purely local, Congress cannot appropriate money for the object. But, if the benefit be general, it matters not, whether in point of locality it be in one state or in several. Whether it be of large extent or small."

-Joseph Story, 'Commentaries of the Constitution', 1833.

That pretty much sums up the problem that has plagued Washington for decades - Pork on local projects that usually end up with the congressman's name attached to it. Still, whether it's a local, or an import like Saucy Aussie Nicky Whelan, we can all agree beautiful women benefit all of us. No pork here, folks!

Cartoons of the Week...

Airline travel seemed to be this week's Topic duJour in the political cartoon world. Granted, I've quit and told people to eff off in many different ways, but never by announcing it on the loudspeaker, then grabbing a beer and jumping out the emergency chute.... Kudos, my good man.

Still, there plenty of other cartoons that used the airplane theme aside from this one. But since we are primarily a political blog (I think), we'll go with this one as the winner - mainly because we hate Charles Rangel....

SC6 New Music Pick: Smashing Pumpkins 'Freak'

It's Just Billy Corgan Now .....

It makes us happy to be able to promote new music from existing bands, particularly ones form our heyday. This week, we're a little bittersweet as we keep you up on the latest song from Smashing Pumpkins....

We think singer/guitarist Billy Corgan is one of the most prolific and talented songwriters around, and he has been for he last 20 years. Most of the music you heard on any SP song was actually him, not James Iha or D'Arcy, who have been out of the band for some time now. The part that makes us sad is to see drummer Jimmy Chamberlin gone as well. Which leaves Corgan as the sole member left. Drummer Mike Byrne, long with guitarist Jeff Schroeder and bassist Nicole Fiorentino make up the rest of the band.

All that aside, Corgan still writes great, cutting-edge music. Not only that, he's adjusted his marketing to the current buying habits as well. With the move from CD's and albums to MP3's and single song buying, Corgan and The Pumpkins are releasing their 44-song disc, Teargarden By Kaleidyscope, one song a month at a time.... Pretty brilliant in our book. This is the latest track, 'Freak'...

The Number Stuck in Our Brain Today ....

A Blood Test Makes Us Wonder How We're Still Alive Right Now...

For those of you who keep up with my Facebook page, you know I finally got health insurance for the first time in 3 years this month. So, your first inclination - especially when you've been on meds for the previous 7 years - is to get checked out, and take care of all those little things you've been ignoring. For me, it's been constant sinus problems, which also trigger the anxiety attacks that have plagued me for about 15 years now....

The visit seemed good: I got some rsteroid spray for my sinuses (which hasn't really worked yet), and some Baby Xanax to trim the edge off the stress. That's worked pretty well... Since I've crossed 40, they requested a blood test to check on all those things that creep up when you get older. At first I was told I'd get the results in 2 weeks or so on my followup visit. Didn't quite go that way....

Yes, i got a call from a Dr's office ON A SATURDAY MORNING , to inform me that my triglicerides (bad cholesterol) is not 200 or below, which is normal, nor 225, 250, or even 300 ..... Nope, they're saying that I have a whopping 500 and fucking 46 !!!! Personally, I didn't think it went that high. Now, I didn't fast before I took the test, but if a statin drug for 2 months can only drop your score 75 points, what the f**k is skipping breakfast gonna do?

Naturally, I'm in a state of disbelief (or denial) right now. After all, I've lost about 40 pounds in the last 3 years, and my body's in as good a shape as it's been in a while. Granted, I can't breathe, and my neck feels like I swallowed a frog, but the rest is pretty good. It makes me wonder what it was when I weighed 210 pounds. My diet isn't the problem: I dropped sugared drinks, and sweet snacks for the most part. Breakfast is OJ and twig-like cereal, mid-morning is a granola bar. Lunch four times a week is a salad with turkey breast roll. I drink Diet Green Tea during work. For dinner, Carol makes chicken or sometimes we'll go bad with steak or sausage, but there's always veggies and salad with olive oil dressing.

Right now, I feel like I got a bum ticker, or the family thyroid issue has gotten me (Mom died from Hodgkin's Disease). Either way, my doctor (who is pretty cute) and I have our work cut out, because there is obviously something wrong. I always got complaints that I was a hypochondriac, but if you're feeling shitty just about every day, then there's fire.... We'll keep you posted on the followup visits, but today, we need to rest up for the next five days of work. It's gonna be a long one....

Because We Love to Pick On Nancy Pelosi ....

We still there's a few pieces of dreck in 'that there ole swamp'....... Me like think Pelosi San Fran Nanner is be a Liberal Douchebag......

Today's Quote: The Center of All Power

'When all government, foreign and domestic, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power, it will render powerless the check provided of one government on another.'
-Thomas Jefferson
TJ may be right, but for now, Brasilian beauty Deborah Secco is the Center of All Our Thoughts, and we are powerless to stop it.....
.

Cartoon of the Week ..

Yes, we're back, though on a very limited schedule, which we'll get into later... When we pick a cartoon, all things being equal, we pick ones that tell the truth - not just funny ones. So, we decided that this one was the best choice for this week...

.
