Hotwire and Delta Screw My Friend for $400..... But At Least She Has a Milton Now..
In keeping with the tradition of the Milton Waddams Award, we recognize someone who was screwed by a Big Company, just because they could. This one might make you wonder if some companies actually give a damn about customers at all...
By buddy's girlfriend , Jean, had to fly to Nashville for a convention, so she called Hotwire.com to book a flight. She booked a round trip flight from Wilmington ( about 2 hrs from Florence). However, she found out after that she needed to leave a day earlier, so she called back to try and change flights. Well, Hotwire told her to kiss off, and she ended up having to buy an additional one-way to Nashville. Not a big surprise, but it doesn't end there.
Since she wasn't getting on the first flight, Delta would not let her pick up the tickets for the return flight. Delta's excuse was that Hotwire technically owns the tickets, so she was SOL. In short, the airline that actually flies you there has no control of letting you on the plane! So, after all was said and done, she ended up buying TWO round trip tickets for the one trip.
Sure, maybe in hindsight, she should have just shown up a day late in Nashville, but I haven't seen a case of a company rooking someone this badly in a while. Hotwire should be ashamed..

Mike as you know I fly all over several continents and most on Delta. Two years ago Delta started changing the game. For myself I was not happy. Last year I flew over 150 segments or flights on Delta and I did not make their elite status. They do not count segments anymore just mileage and when you fly to Atlanta from wherever it is only 500 miles credit. You must fly 100,000 miles to make it to Platinum. To have any stroke with the airlines you better be a frequent flyer the common man/woman or a person who only flies a few times a year or every now and then means very little to the airlines. When someone using the Hotwire or other cheap source you get what you pay for. While I understand her problem you are right the blame is Hotwire and not Delta. If you want to be able to change flights you need to book them on the airline not a third party. They do have rules and you must follow them most times. A person who does not fly a lot has no where to go they are at the mercy of the ticket they have. You really get what you paid for. She should had booked Southwest out of Raleigh and she probably would had been ok. For me I would just as soon ride a bus as to fly Southwest but for someone who does not fly a lot this would had been the way to go. Also it would had taken the not so frequent flyer out of the way of the frequent flyer. So no pity here.
Underscores our need for a low cost carrier to make Delta shape up. Granted Hooters Air and Independence Air are out as options, but we do need Southwest and another to step up to the plate adn git 'er done.
Todays USA Today a paper I love to hate due to ex owner and Editor Emeritus. Did a article on airlines and lost baggage. Southwest was not in the top 10 due to number of passengers but they did lose more bags than any airline. Was based on bags lost per 1,000 customers I believe. What a spin. ASA was number one the Delta Connection. I expected them to be at the top on this. Certain ASA flights from Florence and Myrtle Beach to certain locations your bag always arrive late. Over the years I have learned to deal with it and to also try to carry on all I need for short trips. I did fly Hooters once and it was a trip. Never made Independence.
