Flipping through the channels tonight, I ran into some thing that is a must see for Children of the 80's like myself. VH-1 Classic is airing videos from the very first day of MTV. Yes, it's been 25 years since MTV first aired on August 1, 1981. Like I told Michael Reese recently, I am now officially a member of the Old Farts Club!
It's a pretty interesting watch to see crappy videos from dogshit bands like Bootcamp and Ph.D. (?), and to see a pre-Armani Robert Palmer dancing across a xylophone in "Looking for Clues". For those only interested in politics, try a Google search for Mike Campbell.... You don't get the Lt. Gov. candidate - you get 10 pages of the guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
No, 1981 wasn't a banner year for rock, but it was a nice trip back , remembering what I was doing the summer before 8th Grade... Time to go, I gotta figure out my Rubik's Cube - one of these days!!

Yeah, they really did have to panhandle for videos. Then again, on that first day, MTV's audience consisted of several thousand viewers with a single cable system in northern New Jersey.
Did you notice the number of videos from Rod Stewart and REO Speedwagon? I'd say about every sixth video had to be from one of those two.
But at least they had a the foresight to do videos, and in doing so, set a path for bands with more visual and audio appeal to follow.
Yep. Lots of Pat Benatar and April Wine too, but that was cool back then. Watching it last night, I was compelled to pick up my acoustic and learn "Just Between You and Me". Pretty easy..
I remember those early days of MTV. I had just started my second career with Brown and Root Haliburton. Last night up here on the Oneida Indian Nation Reservation in Wisconsin they had a tribute to Lost in the 80's with the bands When In Rome which they were good I thought also A Flock Of Seagulls, Missing Persons, Animotion & Jean Loves Jesebel next week they will have Queens Of The Stone Age and The Tarbox Ramblers. Do you remember any of these? Never seen them on MTV either.

This is all weird because just like the WCW and WWF wrestling....they would NEVER mention one the other at all. Then it came to the point in the late 90's where they would mention each other from time to time live on air, and they would throw in cheap shots at the other.
It's kind of like MTV and VH-1. You wouldn’t dare hear MTV mentioned on VH-1 and vice versa. Now its like they are both best friends or something, I understand that I did a lot of partying in college and don't remember much but when did VH-1 and MTV become best friends?
Easy.. It was ratings. In the late 90's, VH-1 kicked the crap out of MTV in programming. Behind the Music (my personal favorite) and other shows brought people who would never be caught watching VH-1 ten years earlier to the channel.

I agree, I have put way too much pressure on you lately for support. I was reading some of the things I've said lately on the blog, and it's out of line. I have expected a bit more than you can give recently, and I've been waiting all week to apologize for doing it. You told me exactly what was going on last week, and I didn't listen, because I think I'm special, and that you'll push everything else aside for me. That's all wrong. I want to make things right....
I've never had problems talking with you, but this is your job, and what you need is what's best. It really bothers me that I've managed to take the good that you've done for me, and fucked it all up. What I do ask is that I get one chance this weekend to fix the damage, make you comfortable with me again, and then give you space.
Yes, you are one of the things in life that I depend on, and probably too much. i've always counted on you,and i want you to count on me to respect your wishes. I care way too much on what people think about me, and I always have, and the thought that you are not comfortable with me hurts, so I need to fix it.
Please let me know if this okay, and I'll go from there. Again, I am so sorry, this isn't what I ever intended to do.

Anyway , i talked to Gary last night to tell him it's all my fault, and not to give you any grief over taking time off. He is backing you 100%, so if you don't want me there, I can't come. Like I said, it's your job, and I'm not going to fight any on this. Besides, Gary is WAAAAAAYYYYY bigger than me.
what I'm basically telling you is if you genuinely don't want to work this weekend, that's good, but if you're worried about seeing me there, don't don't do that. I promise on my Mom's grave that I will stay away. When you're ready to see me, just let me know.
Princess, I'm sorry if I ever have caused any pain or unhappiness in your life (IF???!!). One of these days, i'll keep my big mouth shut, and not tell you how I feel - you already know.
