People are Spending Big Money to be National Committeeman.
With SC National Committeeman Buddy Witherspoon's stepping down to run for the US Senate, the race is on to fill his seat later this year. And from what I'm getting in my mailbox this week, some of the guys running for the spot are forking out some major duckets to get it.
I got mailers from both Drew McKissick, who is serving out the remainder of Witherspoon's term, and State 2nd Vice-Chair Glenn McCall this week. Maybe I was a bit naive about the process, but I figured it was a relative small time deal, where the candidates make their push at the State Convention. Shows how much I know...
I forgot - I live in Florence, where politics is not a death-sport of maximum importance. I like politics alot, but there obviously guys out there that take it much more seriously than you and I do. I wish I had enough cash to blow this kind of money when I ran for office, but......
The convention is still a couple months away, but it's never too early to start, right?

right now i am leaning toward mccall
mike, it was easy for drew to raise the money to pay for it. two of his supporters have ways to raise money that they decided to put to work for him.
van hipp put together another phone sex credit card scam ring, and bill wilcox went out and bounced a bunch of checks.
when you've been fired for dishonesty, like drew has, and your supporters are the likes of hipp and wilcox, things that cost people like you and i lots of money cost them very little.
I'm for McCall too.
Earl, you mean Clap Clap Clap isn't running?
And now for something completely different. Mike, in terms of $$$ consider that the mailing list is about the size of a small city council district, it that large. Track back the bulk mail permits, often a bit of the blood sport, and see whose was used and expect a few automated calls extolling the virtues and or failings of any and all state party candidates.
One thing to be on the look out for is a mailer bearing your endorsement for a candidate. Some years ago one candidate for state chair sent one out claiming me as a supporter... I damn near got up to offer a seconding speech for his opponent, repudiating the endorsement, which I hadn't given to Katon...
I only found out about the mailier from a fellow delegation member that gave me down the road for supporting Henry, so you will understand that I take Mr. Dawson with a grain of salt (Hell a whole salt lick).
Mike, in the Democrat party, these guys would be super delegates, does that answer how slick mailers like these go out, piad for by either their owner or another currying favour...
