SC6 Human Interest Story: Blind and Wheelchair Bound Student Makes U. of L Marching Band..

ESPN had a really nice piece on a student at the University of Louisville. The boy was born blind and unable to walk, but he has managed to become an accomplished pianist and trumpeter. He recently fulfilled a dream when he made the Louisville Cardinals Marching Band...

You might be asking, "How do you march in a wheelchair?". Well, he gets a little help from his Dad, who pushes him in formation. Dad also takes his on to classes everyday, in addition to working the night shift at UPS. Dad didn't complain about working so hard for his son, because he considers the boy his hero...... Sounds like they both are in my book.

Good job on the piece, and I hope ESPN replays it when Louisville plays in their bowl game.

Is this carrying political correctness too far.

maybe, but it was a nice story. The kid plays an excellent piano, Dad's helping, and no one minds, so no harm done the way I look at it.

Mike, there's a similar father son team that does about the same thing in triathlons.

moye, political correctness gone too far would be forcing the band to disband because they cannot accomodate this member or forcing a token scholarship and making Louisville provide a couple of folks to push the wheelchair around. Just based on some statistics that have surfaced, relfected by the John Stossel "Who's Giving" piece that ran last week; I'd bet that the dad is a Republican.

What was the guy that played football at the Citadel and his Dad was a pro player the son broke his neck and moved to Florida the set up a fund to do research and both are always seen together. Serious good story on the band but the football team is overrated.
