SC6 Remembers Corazon Aquino

Word came in late today that former Phillipine President Corazon Aquino has passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 76. She was thrust from housewife to Presidential candidate after her husband Benigno Aquino was assassinated in 1983, after three years in exile. She managed to unite the citizens, business community and military against the Marcos dictatorship of the past 20 years, forcing him to abdicate at the urging of the Reagan Administration ....
While she was not considered a very successful President, she did manage to fight off seven military coups in her six years in office, ensuring that the Philippino people would have a democracy, imperfect as it may be. In some countries, that would be a success. Always dressed in her trademark yellow, she showed us that people can rise from ordinary situations to eventually lead a people...
