Taking a Permanent Vacation From Work: Part II

So, what do you do when it's 1000AM, and you've just quit your job? Stay home, and sleep the day away? Hell no... You get out of the house, drive to Myrtle Beach, and enjoy a day off for the first time in 11 months....

I almost did just waste the day - I was actually contemplating cutting grass all day - but I decided that it was too nice to stay inside, so I hopped in the Avalon, and stopped for lunch at Ala Mario in Conway for a couple slices. If you are looking for real NY Style pizza, stop in just past Coastal Carolina University at the Food Lion shopping center, and enjoy....

Next, it was down to Huntington State Park on the South Strand. I had only been there once, and I really forgot how unique and pretty it is. I spent all my Summers during college workign at the beach, so you forget how relaxing it can be sometimes - and how much hotter it is once you get over the dunes !! Here's a couple pics....

Driving over the Causeway through the Marsh at Huntington......

Soaking my feet in the saltwater.......

The Atalaya, which is Spanish for Watchtower.... no, they don't play Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan...
I kinda did a Figure Eight trip, going through Georgetown, Andrews and Hemingway-Johnsonville, on the way home. It was stunning to me to see so many of the old companies gone, or going - Delta Mills, Georgetown Steel, CHAMPUS, Wellman, etc..... Our manufacturing base, especially in the smaller towns that depended on them, is in big trouble....Having seen this on the day I quit my job, it makes me realize that times are tough all over.

Mike-let me start by saying last year when I was out sick the first thing I did was get out of the house for a few days before my treatments started. I fully agree a few days at the beach, the lake or up in the mountains to clear a person's head and plan a course of action is the smart strategy. I wish you luck in your job hunt and if I can do anything to help; you know you can count on me...teg
