There's Gay, Then There Is Too Gay ...

Is He Kissing the Guy From A Flock of Seagulls ??

Watch my amazing high wire act, as I try to discuss a Gay Kiss on national television without inciting the rath of Waldo.... Well, all hell and fury seem to be falling down on Adam Lambert's number at the American Music Awards, which must have seemed to be more like the MTV Movie Awards winner for Best Kiss. Personally, I liked the one with Rachel McAdams in 'The Notebook' more......

For a guy who six months ago wouldn't tell anyone if he was or if he wasn't, Adam Lambert sure has let his gayness out of the closet bigtime. Does it bother me? Nope, not really... I don't care if someone is gay or not. I kinda like gay guys. They're usually pretty funny, and they always dress better than I do too... But getting back to Lambert, America isn't as into Bravo as I am. Kissing and fondling a guy, and having someone stick their face in your crotch (which doesn't make you gay in Puerto Rico) is more than Middle America is used to......

I missed American Idol this year, but Joe said Lambert was pretty good, so I'll take his word for it. Talent will always get you there, but the jury is still out on whether this is a 'Wardrobe Malfunction' moment, or just a freak show that torpedoes his career before it takes off. America likes it's gays as unthreatening, like Ellen or Rosie O'Donnell before she went ape shit crazy..... Lambert was in the Safe Gay Zone until this week - that is, Mom & Dad would let their teenage daughters buy his CD's because he seemed like the nice boy who just happens to like other boys. That may be down the drain now......

Odd that Disney owned ABC would dump a Friday AM live performance by Lambert, yet even more telling that a fourth or fifth place CBS AM show would leap to pick up the option... is ABC homophobic? Is CBS heterophobic or taht anti straight?

Just askin'

Mike--we are not talking Madonna and Brittany here after the normal family hour, we are talking two guys on national TV in the middle of prime time! Most people will not admitt to being homophobic, but middle America is not ready to embrace gayness, not even close.

I have to admitt that the conservative in me was thinking where's a tall tree and rope when you need it? There was a time when Lambert's actions would have bought him a sure ticket to a meeting with the local law enforcement and their nightsticks (it sounds like he's into other guy's nightsticks) but this is the 21st century and we should be open to other lifestyles. Americans as a whole can be accepting of differences just not in the middle of primetime and in our living rooms.

Just one final thought, Lambert next time get a hotel room and wait till after the show (and no we don't want details and leave the damn video recorder in the car)!!...

I thought CBS' the early show had a smart move, picking up Lambert immediately upon ABC's GMA dropping him from performing b/c of the "controversy." FWIW, I heard an interview with him, where he just laughed it off and thought it was no big deal (the west coast AMA feed cutting it and the GMA drop). But earlier I had read a print piece where he pointed out it was pretty obvious that a double standard exists, highlighting Madonna and Brittney's acts in the past.

BTW, you ever seen Lewis CK's first stand up special. The whole "really gay versus just a little bit gay" bit? "I am Fagator!" Funny stuff.
