Tales From the East End: Sag Harbor

Today, we take you to the furthest point we went on Long Island's South Fork (Montauk) - Sag Harbor. Nestled in the cove on the Peconic Bay side of the fork, Sag Harbor is a beautiful little gem that has managed to recover from the loss of the fishing jobs here, to become a bohemian paradise. If you want to visit the Hamptons, but avoid the 'beach people', Sag Harbor is the place to go.... On the above picture, we have the Visitors Center, which was closed when we went in early May.

This might look like an ad for the Bahamas, but this was literally right next to the road...

The view from the Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge, which goes to North Haven.. Haerter died in Iraq, so it's quite appropriate that we posted this today...

Downtown Sag Harbor ...
The nice part of Sag Harbor is that it hasn't lost it's identity , while still making itself an attractive area to visit. No big clubs, no limos with old guys with the Arm Candy they bought for the weekend. It was also the only place where people I didn't even know said 'hi' - for no reason at all..... How Un-New York ! The only problem I found was the confusing stops at 4-way corners - which almost caused me to lose the nose on my car. If I can figure those out, I might try to figure out how to live here....
