We'll be making our long awaited (OK, no one in Florence will be happy to see me) return to the Florence County GOP meeting tonight. It's been a while for us. So long, in fact, that it will be the first time we've met Chairman Bill Pickle... We'll be looking forward to meeting and sizing up the big guy. We're sure he's probably been tainted a bit by the ones that have an axe to grind, but we'll see...
Bill is a far cry from previous Chairs, especially when it comes to media. He uses every outlet possible: print, TV, online... and now radio! Yep, starting tomorrow, 970 WJMX-AM is cutting into their national talk show lineup, and giving Bill an hour a day to discuss local and state politics. Doing radio is not an easy gig.. TV allows you visuals, and you can cut and edit. There are no do overs in radio, and it is all based upon the inflection and tone of your voice. I have lots of DJ buddies (we miss TJ's show there), so I've seen firsthand what it takes to do this right..
Hopefully, he will have lots of guests to interview and discuss issues with. It also makes for better radio and TV. I finally got to watch Mande Wilkes show yesterday, and it was a borefest - barely made 10 minutes before I changed the channel. We all like to get our points across, but a one-way discussion is like playing tennis alone - very dull.
We actually thought it started today, and were kind of embarrassed to hear Neal Boortz instead. But, we'll be listening tomorrow again at 900 am, and see how he does. Best of luck to Uncle Bill, and make us proud...

Actually Bill has lost a huge amount of weight. Not big guy anymore.
