SC6 Goes on the Road for New Years: Destination..... Florida !!

Yes, it was a big weekend for me. I don't travel that often, in fact, the furthest south I had ever been was Hilton Head. However, for New Year's Eve, I went all the way to Lady Lake , Florida to visit my sister, and to hang out with the retirees at The Villages..... also known as "Florida's Friendliest Hometown"....... also known as where Old Yankees Go to Die.

You may have seen The Villages ads on TV. Golf, Tennis, hanging with the Homies at the Club. This place is HUGE. There are 50,000 people living in this place, and 99.5% are White or Hispanic. There are only 11 African-Americans there. My sister is only 49, so she is considered the kid in the neighborhood . People my age are unwanted visitors. How can you tell they're Yankees? Because, no one says hello or smiles at you.

Everyone hangs out at the CVS, getting their prescriptions filled, or at PETCO, getting $50 bags of food for their lap dogs. This is all funny, but the most hilarious sight are the Golf Carts. Everyone has one, some look like Hummers or Jeeps or Rolls-Royce's. Others are painted for their favorite football teams. Then there is New years Eve......

For New Years, everyone hops in their cart and heads to the town square. Like the bikers at Sturgis, thousands of golf carts are lined up next to each other. In the center of the square, there was a 50-60's band( not sure if that was the music they played, or their ages). Around them, all the Seniors are dancing, eating, and literally embalming themselves with hard liquor. Then as soon as 12:00 hits, they hop back into the golf carts and DWI their way home.

As much as it sounds like it stunk, it was a pretty good time. Most years I don't do anything for New Years, so this was a good change of pace, and I got to hang with my big sis for a few days. Hope yours was good too.

Ahh yes, the Viagra users group probably has a significant roll there... somehow large membership would be taken way out of context.

Down at Wyboo on New Years Eve we had a group of about 125 we all paid 55.00 a piece for food, drinks, party favors, entertainment, and villas in case we could not drive our golf carts and cars home safely. We also had people hired to drive us if we desired it. We started offical time at 7 PM on the 31st and ended at 5 AM on the 1st. No fights arguments no one was shot or cut about half was from the northeast corridor our retirees or Europe and the rest was us native born. The weather was beautiful on Lake Marion and so was the fireworks. Glad you made it to see your sister and visit Florida.
