Happy Juneteenth !! If You Know What It Is...

If You Don't Know, You're Not the Only One.......

Alright folks, what is Juneteenth? Well, it's also referred to as Black Independence Day. No, the date may be incorrect, but it is the day a local tradition slowly progressed into a regional (and maybe someday national) holiday.

Most folks know that Appomattox was on April 9, 1865, but in those days it took awhile for word that the Civil War was over. In Galveston, Texas, word came on June 19, 1865 when a Union General came to tell locals that the war was over, and they were all free......

Naturally, they had a party. It mostly was a local event, but it has spread over recent years across the South, and in pockets of other areas across the country. Some of our elcted officials would like to make Juneteenth a National holiday, but it isn't likely to happen soon. I do n't have a problem with it because of who it's for. We have enough national holidays. Personally, as an Italian-American, we shouldn't have Columbus Day off either. i can't get to the bank or post office when they're open enough as it is....
Now for the real reason. No one knows what Juneteenth is, even in the black community. Need proof? Look no further than my dealership. Of the 5-6 black people I asked, not one of them knew what it was. Worse yet, none of them were interested in learning about it. Ironic, isn't it? The White Devil Republican knows more about African-American culture than they do. Hey, at least I tried..........
Anyway, to celebrate in true Juneteenth style, have some BBQ and a Red Soda on me.....

It is summer Kwanzaa, but it has an actual historical origin, unlike one that steals a menorah, puts colored advent candles in it.

It also, if adopted as a national holiday, consititutes an establishment of religion and discriminates against Festivus

My son and I were in the Bahamas diving and snorkleing buying cheap watches and staying at the hotel they made a few 007 movies at last summer. In Nassau they celebrate Juneteeth I was there. Of course there are almost no one other than people of color in the Nassau except tourist and business people. It was wild I promise you that. I watched the parades off my balcony. Looked like a complete black madi gras
