SC6 Picture of the Day: Greasy NY Pizza - YUM!

We've got two down, one to go.... Bagels? Check. Greasy New York Pizza? Check. White Castles , you're next.... There are few things that make a former Long Islander more nostalgic than folding a slice of pizza, and seeing the grease dripping from the bottom.... and onto your plate, your pants, the floor ..... Hungry yet? If you aren't up for driving 700 miles for the real thing, try the pizzeria in the Food Lion shopping center next to Coastal Carolina University in Conway - it's pretty close.

I was challenged by a fella from the Bronx one time when I was helping out in the kitchen at the Columbia Park. I think we had a sign that claimed NY-style pizza and he said he was gonna want his money back if it wasn't. We spun him up a fresh pie, he took a slice, folded it, held it straight up to watch the grease drip, took a bite and gave us the thumbs up.

Our dough and sauce recipes and our making/cooking style all came from the guy who owns Andolini's in Charleston and it was the real deal. I used to be pretty damn good tossing pies. Could toss one left-handed while saucing another.
