The Bobby Factor

Barack Obama Has Lost His Important Vote .......

I don't know if I've ever told you guys this previously, but when it comes to gauging Presidential politics - especially someone's electability - I have one secret weapon.... Bobby. Bobby is my best friend, and as much as I like politics, he detests it. Anyone who has read his comments on here knows what I am talking about....

Bobby is a true Independent - he has no party loyalty. What he believes in theoretically, I'm sure even he can tell you. I could tell you what he doesn't like easier than what he wants. Bobbo usually is fixated on ESPN (when he doesn't have to watch Noggin with his daughter), The Weather Channel and like many peripherally interested people, he gets most of his information from The Daily Show. Bobby voted for Bush in 2004, but in 2008, he got caught up in Obamamania. Now, the honeymoon appears to be over....

When you are a policy wonk, trying to discuss politics with those who aren't as interested is annoying , and a waste of time. You have to wait til they come to you... Last week in Summerville, Bobby suprised me a bit, but it made me happy. Out of the blue, he said to me something that I think encapsulates what Middle America is thinking now...... "Barack Obama is losing me. I never thought he would go this far." Me neither....

It's a pretty simple statement, but it applies quite well to what all those independents and moderate Democrats are probably wondering right now. The Stimulus was one thing, but Cap & Trade and Health Care are causing many to question if they got what they thought were getting. The wants of the middle and slight left were simple: Fix the Economy, pass legislation to protect consumers from bad mortgages, and find a way out of Iraq. Past that, most of them didn't want much else changed. This is the part that no one in DC seems to understand - The Federal Government already so huge, only very marginal changes need to be made to get their house in order. However, it is still nothing when compared to the size of the US Economy.

It's a bit cliched, but Barack Obama is losing sight of that fact, and if he continues, he can expect to lose something else - the 2012 Election. Of course, a lot can happen in 3 years, and the Republicans don't have a sure candidate yet either. Look what has gone on in seven months....

Now, does one make every judgement based on one person's opinion? Of course not. But, Bobby is a pretty accurate political weathervane. Then again, he could change his mind again next week....

Good morning SC,Mike makes an interesting observation that Obama is losing middle America. One needs only watch the news to see that a large number of people are not buying Obama's medical plan. After bank/automobile/Wall Street bail outs, average Joe's and Jane's are starting to wonder what about me?

Those who oppose the liberal democrat plan are being called unpatriotic and having terrorist tendencies. What middle America is seeing is a pattern! We are beginning to understand that if you disagree with Obama the attacks are going to personal.

I have to tell the democrats this but attacking average Americans, calling them names, suggesting that they are mindless cattle, implying that they are not being patriotic has a way of back firing.

Obama is getting a very large reality check right now. A check that campaigning for President can be made on 30 and 60 second sound bites, while being President means leadership 24/7/365. Sorry Mr. President right now the people of this country are questioning your leadership, the Congressional democrat leadership, and they absolutely do not like nor believe the responses they are getting.

So what can the average person do?
If you agree with Obama, the democrats and their ideas then you need to do nothing. If you think this country has entered an era that makes you long for Clinton; Carter or Johnson, then come to our local Republican meetings. It's your voice and together we can create a chorous that everyone will hear...teg
