Leave It to the Japanese..... Square Watermelons ??

Attention Hugh Weathers: we've got a potential moneymaker here. Bonzai Watermelons... Yesiree, those friends of ours across the Pacific that have been kicking our butts for the past 30-odd years have done it again. Square Watermelons. While you think that it might be just a kooky visual gag, there is a theory behind the non-oblong fruit.

Ever stick a watermelon inside a fridge. Sure... Ever get anything in AFTER the watermelon goes in? Didn't think so. Well, the Japanese have put Feng Shui to use in that problem too...

Yep, a simple square glass case put around the fruit while still on the vine assists in keeping it's shape, and make it take up less space in the fridge. Some people just don't stop thinking.....

Now, while it is cute, and no doubt the square watermelons would rake in it's cost and then some in increased revenue, there is one scary quality to them. Let's do a side-by-side comparison....

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch...

I'd tell you, but I'd have to kill you.

This one I got from a friend who works at the Clemson Ag. Extension in Florence.

Still need to ship them to Vindicator in Florida to be nuked before they go to Japan!

Maybe we need a gamma sterilization plant in the Pee Dee?

Am I off on the Grinch comparison? Just get the OK from Dr. Seuss, throw a Grinch sticker on it, and wham-o! Double your revenue...
