Today's Oddity That I Noticed....

Like you guys, there are some days that I don't think much about politics, and today is one of those days... I'm getting ready for the Pats/Colts game, when I saw a KFC commercial, when I realized the background music is Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Sweet Home Alabama'........
In case it didn't sink in KENTUCKY Fried Chicken's theme song is Sweet Home ALA- frickin' BAMA ! That's like playing 'I Love New York' for South Carolina's Tourism Bureau......
What's next? 'Whatta Man' as the theme for Secret anti-perspirant? Kinda weird, don''t you think? I know, I'm being picky, but it's that pickiness that has allowed me to be alone for so long...... Oops. Nevermind.

it wasn't the Kentucky/Alabama thing I noticed, it was the fact that it is the part of the song where they say "God Damn".

If you listen closely to the song, it actually isn't Lynyrd Skynryd or however it is spelled.

It is a sample of the band that was used in a hip hop song by either 50 cent or ludicris a couple of years ago.

Think about this for a second what is actually more funny than the fact that a lynyrd skynyrd or a sample of the same being used in a fried chicken commercial.

I took several classes in advertising in college, even though it wasn't my major. Watch the commercials for fried chicken chains closely and you will see something very interesting. You will seldom see a white family eating fried chicken on a fried chicken commercial.

Conversely, when these same chicken chains were trying to pitch roasted or rotisserie chicken to america they predominently featured white families in their advertising.

So maybe the lynyrd skynyrd thing is subliminal in nature? The music plays to the white folks as an advertising message and the visual message plays to the black folks?

Who know...

Anon, that was way too cogent and informed an argument - what are you doing here????

All I know about rotisserie chicken is "It's the wood that makes it good". It falls off the bone real nice too.

I'm getting hungry..

Popeye's or Bojangles, both awesome on the spicy side and Bo's got the country ham biscuit done right. But moye, at D&H I ususally don't get past filling up on 'cue to think about the chicken, though pulley bones are an old favorite.

Mike, KFC's playing or trying to play to the urban audience that Church's (albeit that Church's is owned by the Popeye's folks), has been targeting.

Gotta admit, slowcooked rotisserie bird, done right is almost up there with chicken off the grill at home... but Rocket would get ya for that, unless you cook one for hime too.
