Not So Fast , Steve ......

Steve Wants to Be a Senator, But Big Barry Says No ......

Mick Jagger said it best.... You can't always get what you want. Steve Israel knows that all too well this week. Israel is the Congressman from my home district in New York. He took over in 2000, when Rick Lazio decided to run for Senator against Hillary Clinton. So after eight years in the House of Representatives, when Hillary became Secretary of State, Israel decided, like all Congressmen, that he was Senator material. After all, every Congressman should eventually be allowed to be a Senator...

So, even though Upstate Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand was chosen by NY Gov. David Paterson to succeed Clinton, Israel still entertained thoughts of running against Gillibrand. He didn't officially announce he would run, but he didn't dispell any rumors that he would run. Well, all that came to a sudden halt this week....

It appears that Israel got a call from above - not God - but Barack Obama himself. Obama let Israel know that he would prefer it if he sat this race out.. Case closed. Israel went public ASAP that he would not run against Gillibrand. That was a real showing of teamwork. Right! When Big Barry calls, the Dems snap straight....

So Steve shoulda bought the seat from Blago? It is a reasonable quid pro quo, NY had the Chicago Carpetbagger, Hillary as a Senator.
