There's Nothing We Love More Than Millionaire Environmental Hypocrites ....

U2's The Edge Battles His Malibu Neighbors With His New Property Idea

There is a great article on MSN.com today about a big battle royal between The Edge from U2, and people from the Uber Enclave of Malibu. It's one of those classic stories of a small, elite group of people who say that they are being more environmentally conscious than the next guy, but in reality, they're all equally full of shit. Yes, a person who builds a house on the beach, then says he's being 'an environmentalist' becuase he recycles newspapers is a hypocrite.

It's all over a development proposed by Edge on a five-home plot that he bought three years ago. Here is essentially what you need to know. He bought the entire parcel for $9 million, and now he's selling the five plots at $7.5 million apiece. Yeah, that's a profit of $26 in three years JUST ON THE PROPERTY. But, at least you can say that The Edge is your neighbor. Prestige does come with a price tag.....

I was a bit stunned just by how much cash Edge has, but U2 has been raking it in for about 30 years now... All that aside, the great part of the article is the goofiness of all the super-rich people who want to make it sound like they're being Green, when it's really a bunch of NIMBY BS artists fighting a guy who is obviously trying to make some major coin....Take five minutes of your time, read this article, and have a nice laugh...

If I were Edge, I'd blast this song 24/7 through the hills, until they finally go insane and submit to his wishes - the Worst U2 Song Ever. And I'm a fan......

I have been to this place in California. It is simply beautiful to say the least. If I had the money I would definitely want a summer cottage there.

Mike--I had the chance to live in California many years ago. I know this area and it is a pristine beautiful quiet area of solitude. That said there is a flip side called property rights. If Edge can build in responsible minimially intrusive manner let him build. But as always there are going to be those who want to tell us all what we can do/say/have with no room for compromise...teg
