From Being a Victim of Terrorism, To Fighting the War on Terror: The USS New York.

This probably looks more like a post from New Wars Blog, but we can talk about this stuff on occasion sometimes as well. If you aren't familiar with the story of the USS New York, we'll briefly go over it with you. The New York , or LPD-21 as it will be commissioned, is the latest ship to be added to the US Fleet. But, there is something very symbolic about the ship...
It is the only ship to have been made partially from the remains of the World Trade Center debris from September 11th, 2001. Some of the salvageable steel from the towers was melted, and made into part of the bow of the ship. So as it battles evil around the world, the towers and those who died there will symbolically be fighting from the very front of the ship.
The ship was completed at the Avondale, Louisiana plant and shipped out just this week. Even though construction was temporarily slowed down by Hurricane Katrina, the ship is now done, and it's on it's way to New York. The official commissioning of the USS New York will take place on November 7th at the Intrepid Museum, Pier 88 South , Pier 88 North in New York City...
