Mark McBride Goes Back Home ....

Former MB Mayor Decides to Run Again For His Old Gig ....
Recognizing that the lot you have in life is where you are destined for is an important skill. In 'Hollywoodland' , George Reeves has his longtime lover tell him "Superman was as far as you were ever going to go... I knew it, why didn't you?" We all have ambition, but man's got to know his limitations, and sometimes it takes a couple of thumpings to recognize that where you are is a good place to be.....
After a couple attempts to get to Washington DC via US Senate runs , WMBF is reporting that former Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride - perhaps the greatest use of political alliteration in history - will announce today that he will once again run to be King of the Redneck Riviera.... Clearly, there is a major split in Myrtle Beach. Yesterday, McBride was named director of the Grand Strand Chamber of Commerce, which on the surface seems to be in competition with the Myrtle Beach Chamber. The GSCOC says that their purpose is to focus more on non-tourism jobs, but it appears that the split is political and philosophical.
Clearly, there are people like McBride, who is pro-biker, who feel that the current Mayor and City Council are ruining Myrtle Beach's economy by turning their backs on things that they personally find objectional - like motorcycles and thong bikinis. We agree that MB picked a really bad time to break their Bibles out and blow the dust off of them - and that a lot of locals lost their jobs. For his part, we hope that Mark McBride has learned a few lessons from his first stint as Mayor. A Mayor really does have to work with his council, even in secret if needed. Calling out your detractors only cause them to work harder to stall you. Sugar beats vinegar - except on BBQ .....

Mike--talked with Mark about this last year at the district convention. He realizes he made some mistakes but that Rhodes has made more and worse.

Further, having spent more time at my place at the beach this summer than the last few years, I have found there are some strong anti-Rhodes feelings. Rhodes is being characterized as: aloof,condesending,arrogant,un-sympathic,and uncaring by people I have talked to at the beach. A concern echoed up and down the grandstrand about Rhodes was that he didnt realize that the actions in Myrtle Beach effected the people in North Myrtle,Surfside,Garden City, and Socastee. Hell I even heard negative comments abouts Rhodes when I went to eat in Calabash NC.

I will admitt that I know Mark and think he would make a great mayor this go around for Myrtle Beach but that will be up to the voters in the heart of the grandstrand but this is one local election that will have ripple effects far beyond the city limits...teg
