More GOP Meeting Blasphemy ...

This Week, It's Clarendon's Turn to Meet During a Football Game ...

Someone please remind me at the next convention to add to our platform a rule making it illegal to meet on Thursdays from September 1st to January 31st ..... Yes, for the second week in a row, I missed the first half of a big football game because I had to attend a county party meeting. This time, it was a trip to Manning that prevented me from catching the Clemson-Georgia Tech game on time. And it looks like it had an effect on Clemson - they were down 24-0 when I got home before rallying. It's 27-27 with 5:40 to play.....

Tonight's meeting was supposed to have been a regional meeting between about 4 or 5 counties at The French Hen, but thanks to the state party, all of the other county chairs and executive committeepeople couldn't attend - but we'll talk about that tomorrow. Moye Graham did a great job as usual getting a good slate of attendees and speakers, but since he is a diehard Tiger fan, he made sure we got out ASAP...

The main speaker was Lt. Governor candidate Bill Connor. This was probably the fourth time we've seen Connor speak, so we'll skip too much reviewing of his platform, but like most smart candidates, he has made some minor adjustments. Many people in the party felt his message was off the mark a bit, focusing too much on his military service and his faith, and not enough on what he'd do as Lt. Governor. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those things. The trick is how to answer those questions without sounding like you're contradicting yourself. Connor did a good job of doing it by getting a bit more in detail in relating how the responsibilities of the Lt. Gov. could enable him to work towards job creation and a better economy... It was a tighter, less repetitive Connor. Damn, Clemson lost, 30-27..... Moye will not be happy.

Also speaking shortly was State Representative Murrell Smith, who covers Sumter and the smallest of areas in Clarendon - I think its three houses and a gas station on 521. Smith took the time to explain his voting no on asking Mark Sanford to resign. His answer was simple - and yet correct. While no one condones Sanford's conduct, the investigations are still pending, and until then, asking him to step down would be premature. That's it. We need to wait for the Ethics report, then decide where to go, unless you take the AP and The State's word as gospel..... Here's a few pics from tonight....

The French Hen is interesting. It's a restaurant that sells a whole bunch of chotchkies as well. Here's the Clemson and Carolina racks - you gotta keep 'em separated..

Earl, where were you ??? We have a quorum of the Four Horsemen of the Political Apocalypse.

Bill Connor with Danny Sawyer, Tom Grimes, Jerry Bingham, Bill Bowers and June Brailsford..

Well, if you believe the Connor camp, I was on Ken Ard's payroll and if so, it would have been a conflict.

Others would point out that I teach on Thursday nights.

How much crack you smoke and how much of a loser you are will decide which of the two reasons you will believe.

Since I am Crack-free, I'll assume Number Two is valid, and not that you're Ken Ard's bitch ...

Manning is a pretty good distance from Chucktown anyway. Missed you, buddy.

As usual we appreciate your coverage for Clarendon. You are always welcome and I hope one day you will move south of the county line where we will put you to work and elect you as something. Serious man thanks a lot and maybe we can get Earl down the next time. Larry Grooms will be speaking in October.
