Green Polar Bears ??

Happy St. Patrick's Day ??
Nope, you're not seeing things - that polar bear is green. How does this happen? Is this an exotic Irish Polar Bear? No bottle of Bailey's is seen, so that can't be it. Did a kid go ape shit with a box of crayons? Not it either............
No, the three normally white polar bears truned green from swimming in a pond overgrown with algae at the Higashiyama Zoo. It seems that high temps in July and August, and a less frequent water change of the pond caused algae to explode in the pond. That algae gets stuck in the hollow spaces of the polar bears fur, and they're having trouble getting it out. So, the green bears will be around for a little longer....
I've seen this before - in people. Growing up, there was this kid, Scott, who had white-blonde hair, and everytime he went in the swimming pool, his hair turned green. Yes, we picked on him. Such is childhood. Last I heard, he was sleeping on a park bench. I kid. I'm sure he's fine.... But enjoy the bears while they still have the luck of the Irish....

pseudomonas aeruginosa usually grows kinda green and likes a little urea in its water sometimes and is one of those bugs suspected in wet and humid environments.

Now moye, it would look like the tidy bowl man if it was from the PJ at old chemistry department parties of my tenure.
