Get One of These? Read Before You Sign It......
RIPOFF ALERT !!!!!! Balancing your budget every month is a great thing. It sure does it make it a lot easier to know what those bills will be before they show up. That was the beauty of Balanced Billing with the utility bills. They would average your bills for the previous year, and that was your bill for the next year. If you went over, they just adjusted the bill the next year. In essence, it was interest free financing of you electric bill.....
Well someone at Progress Energy got smart - or greedy. Or both.. First, if you were late on 2 of 12 bills - even a day - they got rid of balanced billing. That happened to me during the Spring of my discontent, when every bill was a few days late. No problem, I've been paying them on time for a while now, and how was I rewarded? They're offering me balanced billing again. With a bad twist.
It seems that they are tacking on a 20-25% surcharge on your regular bill, so my house that has averaged $63.00 a month for the past 5 years would now be $79.00, and the other house that is $100/month would be $131/month. Exactly where does this extra cash go? Into Progress Energy's bank account, or do I ever get it back, or does my bill drop 20-25% next year. Any way you slice it, they are asking you to obscenely overpay for the sake of having the same , jacked-up bill every month.
Talk about overpaying for convenience...... If you have regular balanced billing, my advice is to keep paying those bills early, lest they try to screw you too.......
