Hope This Never Happens on Your Flight....

Here's a live clip of a airplane getting hit by lightning. Like any live filming , it's not super exciting, but you can see the sparks come off the plane, and hear the thunderclap about 5 seconds later..

The surprising part is that this happens alot. According to FAA data, the average plane is hit by lightning twice a year, with no problems. Moye, you fly a lot - ever been hit? I know I was once, and it was no picnic.....

I have been on several big jets that got hit and considered it a beautiful experience. I was also in an emergency landing in Maine on the way to Ottawa several years ago because of icing that was not a beautiful experience. In the Air Force we lost an engine over the Atlantic that was also not a beautiful experience but once I seen the coast line of our eastern seaboard it was beautiful. So was looking back at the C-141 Starlifter.

Nothing really happened when my plane got zapped, but the turbulence was horrendous. We never got to take our seat belts off the whole flight.
