Mount Isa is a tough place... Nestled in faraway Queensland in Northwest Australia, Mount Isa is a town full of cowboys and strip mines. It's kind of like Alaska, with a funny accent.... Like Alaska, there are a lot more guys around than women - about 5 to 1. It sounds like a girl could really write her own ticket there, and the Mayor of Mount Isa thought so too. But no one is laughing now.....
Mayor John Molony was quoted as saying, " With five blokes to every girl, may I suggest that beauty-advantaged women should proceed to Mount Isa. In other words, 'Bring me your ugly, you grotesque, your not-s0-pretty, yearning to meet guys. Quite often, you will see a lass walking down the street who is not so attractive, with a wide smile on her face. Whether it is a recollection of something previous, or anticipation for the next evening, there is a degree of happiness." ........ Uh, Mayor... Let's try that one again. Blokes and Lasses aside ,you might want to take that statement back...
Too late. Molony is getting it from all sides. Women in the area are insulted from being slighted, and even the guys are kinda ticked off for Molony making it sound like they would take any women they can get. Who knew? Personally, if I had to fight four other guys for every woman in town, I might appreciate Molony's attempt at humor..... Guess they inherited that English sense of humor too..
