The Upside of High Gas Prices..

Less Driving Leads to Less Of These........
Talk about finding a silver lining.... It's almost impossible to find anything good about gas prices going to about $4 a gallon earlier this year, but I gotta hand it to those guys at the Transportation Research Institute at the University of Michigan. The bad news is that you're broke, and you can't afford to drive your car. The good news is that since you can't afford to drive, you can't get killed in a car wreck. I wonder if suicides are up......
Yep, trafiic fatalities dropped 4% for the year, but an amazing 20% in March and April. If that continues, highway fatalities will drop below 37,000 for the first time since 1961 - when Kennedy was President, Barack Obama was born, and John McCain was fresh out of Annapolis...
While safety improvements in cars have steadily improved over the years, the biggest reason seems to be that we are driving less. In June, Americans drove a stunning 12.2 Billion miles less than in the year before. The hard part is that to get fatalities down to zero, you might need to send the family truckster to the car crusher.....

That's the problem with living in Flotown - 75 miles each way from anywhere...
